I agree with almost everything you said. I really like the gameplay loop of Godfall, the builds are crazy varied, the gameplay is smooth/weighty, and the loot system is really well done. The biggest problem with this latest update/version, as you mentioned, is the Spirit Realm grind and the horrendous valor plate shard grind. I wanted to play a lot more of this game but the valorplate unlock system prevented me from playing and gearing the valorplates I wanted. All I wanted was to focus on Vertigo first because I really liked her shard abilities and instead I had to play literally every other valorplate (and gear each one up a good bit to hit those ascended tower unlocks) just to make that one I wanted the strongest it could be. I really wish the devs thought more long term about this system because for me (player since Epic launch) this was the roadblock where I felt I just had enough and I moved on to other games. Unfortunately, I just couldn't force myself to grind that stuff out so my will to keep playing completely fell off (only got about 1/4th of the shards unlocked before I got burnt out). Now if the Devs actually take these valid criticisms and make that valorplate system not as grindy then I will be returning but I just can't be bothered to make viable builds for EVERY valorplate I have no interest in playing. Yes, the system can get you to experience new ways to build/play but some of the requirements are just too difficult to achieve (by this I mean you NEED to put way too much time into valorplates to unlock all the shards). Like those that require you to get to floor 10-15 of ascended towers or 3 orbs in lightbringer, those are not easy to reach with out fully specing that valorplate with decent to good gear and putting in 5-10hrs (per valorplate). My issue could be solved by looking up the best build for every plate, just to unlock the shards, but what is the fun in that when I want to create a cool build myself? The devs have been very good at community feedback and have shown they care about their game/community so, hopefully these issues can be ironed out before to many people drop the game or hit that valorplate grind wall. Its a very good game but some of these smaller decisions/issues prevent it from being great imo. Your one of the few content creators for this game and even when you are passionate about GodFall, you are still willing to provide valid criticism where it is needed, so much respect ;)

As a guy that has played warframe since its alpha stages I'm right at home here. Not as fast as a space ninja sure but I'm a sucker for scifi stuff. And the armors alone have me sold. I will say that my friends stating they heard this game sucks did stay my wallet. But I just bought it last night around 630ish and I was up until 4am. I regret not being there at the start.

godfall reminds a lot of a old MMO called Vindictus. it has a lot of similar modes, it's weird that vindictus got praised by its combat cause I think godfall it's better. loved the combat and even the story, it's a very underrated gem

Very good video, I agree with just about everything you said. I myself recently started playing about a week ago, I'm ac lvl 115, and I've enjoyed playing it so much, I've been grinding away on Illumina. After I finished getting her ascendant, I almost kind of lost my motivation to play now, I would love to get her exalted armor, but having to go through all of the other Valor plates and get the shards with them is such a hassle. But the worst part is that I wouldn't mind doing it, since the game is fun. But the spirit realm is the most boring thing I've ever played, it's honestly the worst. I fell asleep during one of my sessions trying to get Illumina's shards. So just the thought of having to do that with every valorplate is such a buzz kill. Love the combat, love the cosmetics, love the aesthetic, love the gear and builds, love light bringer, tot is fun, dreamstones are okay, explore is enjoyable, but man, the spirit realm is the thing that truly kills my need/want to play completely.

I really liked exalting all the valorplates though. The requirements to unlock the shards was meh but the fact that I discovered a lot of fun builds with different plates that I wasn't planning to play before that was kinda cool. Now I have a lot of unique builds and I can switch playstyle at will (thanks to the loadout system), before that I only played with like 3 plates

The valorplate unlocks requirements didn’t make me mess with new builds at all, it’s started off that way and even went out of my way to start getting shards for a valorplate I never played, but the second you realize In order to get your main exalted you have to obtain every shards, I didn’t waste my time building at all and just copy and pasted the same loadout on every build that could clear through everything, just so my builds could complete their shard requirements and with as tedious and time consuming as all of the requirements are the amount of time it would take to completely build for a new valorplates, check every item, understand that plates playstyle, especially ones I’ve never played, wasn’t worth wasting my time, and was better off getting all of my shards exalted so they’d be at their strongest, and all of their passives unlocked so I can then truly build all 12 valorplates properly

This game is far from perfect, but it's damn fun if you like the genre (be warned: it's a looter/slasher, not an RPG!). It also has one of the best fighting system in my opinion. Gameplay is crisp and every blow feels powerful. The shear amount of attacks you can do is crazy, and each weapon type feels different. I've put Godfall aside since Elden Ring came out, but I know I'll come back to it.

I had this game and my pros were that it was definitely a beautiful game, the combat was fun and I compared it to the PS4 GOW when it comes to mechanics. It did get repetitive and like you said in your video the lack of a codex at the beginning was a bit of a pain. It sounds like they did make a few QoL changes though and with the ultimate edition on PS Store right now for $20 I think it would be a safe and worthwhile use of that $20.

*THIS* is was what I wanted to hear. GodFall was the first game I owned prior to receiving my PS5 and I LOVE it! Unfortunately, I had issues with my system and couldn't play it for awhile. Got it back but I had got the free thing on my PS4 so when I got to play it again on my PS5 for some reason I was playing the end game content which confused me. I just recently deleted everything and re-installed it to play from the beginning but wasn't sure what I needed to get. ALL the DLC released? or just the Ultimate for the $14.99. You answered EVERYTHING. I could play this game forever really. People say it's a loot/slasher which is true but the GRIND makes it also an RPG and THAT right there is why I am used to senseless grinding so the cons for me won't really affect me as long as I am having fun fighting. So basically, I have an endless game to begin over and get to that crazy level that your playing at that I was watching. Thanks-a-Bunches! 🙂

Well I ended up buying it. Can't put it down for about two weeks now. I played D&D Dark Alliance at launch and despite the negative reviews I loved that game. Basically the same game but Godfall is much better. With Primal and Cursed items theres endless possibilities and plenty of game modes to acquire loot. My only complaints are that we can't respec ascension stats and playing on Xbox there isn't much of a community for the game. Crossplay would have been huge. Questions. What are some other notable games in the same mold of D&D Dark Alliance and Godfall? Will this game continue to have updates or is it now complete?

The base campaign & DLC story is a total of 6-8hrs depending on your play, but after they you have quite a few game modes to do when it comes to endgame and then the level and gear farming & build tinkering of course

I'm 80 Hours in... and kudos your points are in my opinion valid... But you forget to mentioned (minor grip) that some Missions in the Campaign / Story mode can eat up at least 1 Hour, mostly 90 Minutes or more... and YOU CAN'T Save because it is a frigging Live-Service-Game... that my only grip... and Spirit Realm WTF?! Devs...

The game auto saves?.. it’s not a live service game? It never has been and the devs have said that multiple times.. most missions don’t take up an hour(not in my recent replay though that I’ve recorded for the channel) I split it up into 3 parts(for each realm) and each part was and hour long because but the missions themselves take like 10-15 minutes each and after you complete one it save, or if you abandon it it saves, everytime you return to the sanctum after a mission(or game mode) it saves essentially. But that’s just been my experience personally

Here also poor choice of Words: I mean “For me” Missions last up to 90 Minutes without the option to save. In Hindsight, maybe i do also a lot of Exploring the Map and kill “Targets” of opportunity. I don’t experience many bugs and I stream almost everyday, and The devs & Community managers both for Counterplay & Gearbox communicate with the community regularly on Reddit and on the Offical Twitter, and hotfix come regularly(litterally just had one last week) and but major patches come out about a month after a big update, all that have community wide changes that are specifically asked for by the community(which they specifically mark in their patch notes) so not 100% sure what you mean by no communication

The game was made for PS5 before Xbox and like most pc games ported over so maybe that’s why I’m experiencing less, but also I don’t personally post on on the GodFall Reddit(lol it’s a cesspool in there) but I see the community moderators and mods comment from time to time, and same with Twitter I don’t comment on their post but I see them reply to comments on their post, and though I’ve spoken with some of the devs and community managers, it’s sooooooo rare when I do I’m not really contributing much to the talks

Yeah old godfall reviews were just the worst full of people who didn’t know what they were talking about and didn’t play enough to even get into the depth of the game, but yeah we should be getting a patch pretty soon, but yeah a lot of people who don’t pay attention to GodFall acts like the devs never add anything or do anything with the game, but real ones know they update the game every 3-4 months while sprinkling in free content, and patches in between, theyve been doing it since launch in 2020 and hope they keep it up well into 2022 and beyond

Not really true, look at games like Destiny or even Warframe still going almost 10 years strong. Tbh a lot of looters do this, it’s nothing new, most saves are server side to protect people from loosing Hundreds of thousands of hours of progress on a game. I just had to factory reset my PS5 and lost most of my game saves that I’ve put sooooo many hours in, except GodFall, Destiny, Warframe, Fortnite, Overwatch, apex, ect.

I was thinking about buying this on Xbox since it's on sale. I came on here to see reviews, etc and was fully on board until you got to the part near the end where you talked about how if we really want to min/max we have to use other stuff outside of our main character. That's a big red flag IMHO and deal breaker. I'm not paying for a game that forces me to dump time into items, mechanics, etc that literally take me away from playing as my main character. They heard the players feedback(well player being pissed lol) and this patch that came out this tuesday, just changed all that! They removed everything that was overly tedious to players, so that players could focus on their main characters, just put out a vid on the update yesterday, but the devs quickly changed it lol

I love this game but it’s crap in multiplayer… We always plays ATOT and someone gets booted ALL the time. Or ALL of us. Lodestones bugging out and I can’t use them are frustrating. Spirit realm air bugged when I died and was stuck on a floating island because i couldn’t use the teleporters. On ATOT you CANNOT open inventory if items are still appearing on the side of your screen. Enemies are invisible sometimes and legit EVERYTIME I get to floor 30 and beat the boss to unlocked ETOT the game bugs and just continues the countdown and we can’t leave the boss room… Love the game but fuck, it’s SO damn buggy.

The challenger edition of the game was free on PlayStation Plus back in December, which just gave player’s access to the endgame modes, none of the story content, none of the dlc story content or the new realm

How is the point of a looter to be repetitive? Its to get better loot. Why can't that happen within a longer narrative whereby you best the best loot towards the end

90% of looters story isn’t replayable dude, so after you beat the story what is endgame? You doing the same stuff over and over to get loot? You beat destiny’s story what’s endgame, doing a nightfall every week, or a raid every week, occasionally pvp until reset and guess what reset hits and it’s rinse and repeat all over again another week, aka repetitive, in GodFall after you beat the main story, what did you do? Endgame what’s endgame? The same few activities for you to get better gear or dreamstones to get resources, then level up, rinse repeat, outriders after you beat the story endgame is expidetions which are timed content(well was) that gets you better loot based on your performance, and then you rinse and repeat til you have an effecient build, the same can be said with Anthem, Borderlands, Warframe, ect. That’s the point of a loot, doing the same things to get you gear right in the end. It’s a repetitive loop.

The key is to make the repetitive loop fun and engaging and have a reason for players to want to come back

ETOT is bad. Like truly bad. The difficulty itself isn't so much the biggest issue, it's the imbalance and huge bug issues. Some of the pairing of boss enemies on floors make it extremely hard to not get killed. Certain bosses put you in insane stun locks that forces your character to eat tons of damage. Especially if you have low ailment resistances on your character, you will die pretty quick. Also some bosses are insanely annoying at times i.e. Solaris and Zamora. The game mode is technically designed for multi-player experience but can be soloed. Only issue is that there are truly only a few builds that will consistently get you through all 10 floors. That being consume build and characters with extremely good exalted shards. Otherwise characters like Illumina take abit longer to clear, while Armistice just outright struggles. And there's plenty of bugs that I won't even get into but will make you wanna uninstall the game itself lol! Im sure the devs will look into these issues and also work to balance the game mode but for now for this to be an endgame mode, it could be something that could push new players away.

Gotta Disagree with you there, hence why I even through ETOT footage in the video, it’s intentionally ment to be overly hard, with insane boss parings, I love it, people can’t get carried through it like they could ATOT, and builds actually matter, also there are sooooooo many ways to make builds just as strong as comsume builds without consuming, greyhawk is an underrated beast that can solo ETOT easy with just soul shattering, Hinterclaw I’ve soloed ETOT with just pure Crit and even though people say it doesn’t work against Solaris sheild(I have footage in this vid that begs to differ) every valorplate can breeze though ETOT with the right builds and not all have to be consume, I feel like that’s just the mindset people go to when they don’t see their build doing the damage they want, but honestly most people don’t build properly and go for Meta or generic builds to get them through the game, not taking into consideration that certain items that have mark of fragility is better to have on your build than just straight up damage, but not to get into builds, all I’m trying to say is that ETOT has been the perfect level of fun and challenging on every valorplate I’ve ran and completed it on, both solo and in co-op. also all endgame modes are designed to be played co-op, but personally I feel like I have more fun playing and Beating ETOT solo

Also ETOT isn’t for New Players it was specifically designed for veteran, late game, endgame build, that could breeze through eveything in the game, it was ment to be as hard as it could(even though in the first day ETOT came out a person soloed it on Hinterclaw with no shards and posted it on Reddit, so it’s still about the right build)

Game gets alot of shit thanks to the other reviewers MISINFORMATION. Finally downloaded the challenger edition 3 days ago since getting it free on december via PSplus. Absolutely awesome looter game!, i love games which allow u to go beyond ur limit!, any valorplate you use can have the potential to reach the sky. Very much like Warframe but warframe doesn't have Etot.... XD What good is ur overpowered build if theres no where to put it to use?. Anyone having doubts about getting this game, well stop procrastinating, and get the game its fun solo and even better growing with a friend or a group. And if u need help, this youtube channel got everything u need! Also join the Discord!

Thought Godfall was just based on swords and melee weapons, shame there's rarely any weapons that you can fire in this one, no guns are disappointing suppose not every game is based on guns anyway.
