There are so many money hungry artists nowadays. Literally the only thing Dimebag wanted to do, was perform on stage and have fun with his friends and the audiance. Metallica is the reason why I started a band and I’m not a big fan of the load and reload albums but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop listen to Metallica. Pantera made bad records so did slayer and Megadeth there are a lot of bands out there that they did the same thing and Metallica gets all the heat but I know why they pick on Metallica because they are the kings like Chris Adler from lamb of god said. Pantera used to be a glam metal band and because of Metallica they changed their style of music

For a "one-off" encore Dime was not bad at all, but I think the God of Metal got it right in setting Pantera's assigned roles. Phil was the right singer for that band IMO. Having played that role myself, I know how hard it can be. The voice is a muscle that requires hours of exercise, talent will only take you so far & the rest is work. That said any version of Whiplash I hear always falls short of Metallica's, ...I can't help but hear James. ;-) \m/

Eddie Levit Honestly at the time it was just a great show, I wasn't in awe or anything like that "being in Phil's presence". My point of view was these dudes are out here trying to make it just like me, so there was respect. But I will say the vibe was definitely one were you knew they were "different " from ANYTHING on the scene at that time. The words polished and well honed come to mind, you can tell in that video they were already too big for a club act. Forever legendary now. Would I see one of Phil's shows now? Why not! Be it Superjoint Ritual or Down, I'd go.

I'm so glad I lived my teen years in that era... the best bands, the best shows... every weekend there was a concert to go and not a care in the world... Pantera, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Sepultura... the more extreme ones too, Cannibal, Napalm, Carcass, etc. Good times, indeed.

Saw them play in Austin, TX the same year at a little venue called the Back Room (probably a couple hundred people at most). A couple years later a friend and I went to the same venue for a concert advertised on the radio as a Pantera cover band called "Cowboys From Hell", so we thought hell yeah, let's check them out. It turned out to actually be Pantera playing a surprise gig as a warmup for their tour. By the end of the show apparently a few hundred people had shown up trying to get in when the word got out, which was amazing considering cell phones weren't a thing yet.

So glad I got to see Pantera 6 times from 90 thru 2001. Those shows were crushing the best one was probably the one with Anthrax in November of 97.

I was there!!! No not really but it seems that’s the first comment, but trust me I saw them many times, many sold out shows, I followed them to Germany! Phil rarely touched that guitar, was this before When Dimebag was called Diamond? How many are here in 2020?!?!?

The ending to this show was pure fuggin beautiful chaotic bedlam and tha fans LOVED IT! As someone stated in the comments "so many money hungry artists nowadays" and that has paved an unfortunate path in music where when some good hearted musicians that just wanted to "perform on stage and have fun with his friends and the audience. He only wanted enough money to pay the rent and buy shots for his friends at the pub" are a rarity and when they do come along they get that cancel treatment.. Sad. Trust me I lived it for a short while as well.

Back when they were still a hairband they covered a lot of Metallica songs on the road. dime on vocals Phil on guitar Kick ass. would have been epic if Dime did more songs when Pantera was on their power groove through their career.

As a self taught guitar player, I love watching my Idols and their different styles.. especially when it's someone who's usually known for singing (apart from Phil's side projects). I don't read sheet music so listen to riffs etc until I get it spot on. I have, what people call, hyper-sensitive hearing so get to pick up every detail and love how such a simple seeming instrument can sound so complex and unique in different hands

When Pantera were at the top of their game (90 to about 94) nobody wanted to follow their set... Proud to say i saw them live twice in that span, killer show both times. I just kick myself for not going to more shows...i actually lived just a few minutes drive away from their Pantego Texas party mansion and recording studio. RIP Dime and Vinny..
