I managed this club from '88 to '92. Pantera played there at least 1 weekend a month up until they were signed . Sometimes they would do a Thursday-Saturday stint. After the shows we would typically head over to someone's house or apartment for an after party. Darrell and Vinnie were always up for that. Cowboys from Hell material was being played at those shows in early '89 about a year before they were signed. For some reason Rex started coming to me right before showtime each night so we could do a tequila shot...some kind of good luck tradition I think. Kings X's dUg Pinnick would come to most of their shows and hang out. Kings X also played Backstage Club many times. Lot of memories of the wild craziness that went on during those times. If you like the sound of this from a handheld minicam from the '80s you should have been there live.....UNBELIEVABLE! The house sound engineer we had is still a friend and he was exceptional then and now.

All Pantera album are great, Cowboys was the child album in the next they get darker, adult, probably leaving hope, but still amazing. I have a feeling that phill put all his youthful energy into singing for the pantera, and he gave himself so much that he burned like a twig in the sun. And Pantera story is so sad, i really think they were too big, too intense and like all good dreams, when they finish they break your heart.
