One thing I forgot to mention, but could easily be implied by me having run through three charges in a day: the battery life on this isn’t great compared to the other higher end Godox products. Which shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, with the same battery form factor, and more power. The new battery is rated for slightly less mAh, which I suspect is because of its higher power handling construction. A little trade off. It’s fine...it’s just not stellar.

Do you mean that the product fails to meet the number of shots it indicates at full power? or that not all you shots to full power were to the same recycle time? thanx and appreciate you effore to bring us your review
@WesPerry4 жыл бұрын
Just that it gets less shots than the usual for Godox products. Not everyone is going to read the spec sheet, and many will miss this. It gets a max of 320 full powered shots. The AD200 gets 500 AD400 Pro 390 AD600 500 V860ii 650 AD600 Pro 360 So it’s the lowest number of shots per battery they’ve released to date. One of the prices you pay for the super compact size.

Sold my AD600BM as I didn't use it often. This one I may use it more. Color temperature consistency is important for pros, thus I'd choose this one or the others like 400, 600 Pro for that reason, and that it is much smaller. Very nice video.

Why don't you use it often?
@NeilSnapePhotography2 жыл бұрын
@@pusico6555 Didn't use it often, because the 600ws blocks are heavy. Only when you need to overpower full direct sun do you need that much power. Therefore a smaller unit is so much better if you are walking into a forest etc for weight and size, being only slightly less powerful.

Please notice that AD300Pro has torch instead of modeling light. The same issue is related to AD100Pro but not to AD600Pro (which allows to set modeling lamp mode to interruptible). If you take pictures with long exposure time or using low flash power (1/256) - the light of "modeling lamp" will blend together with flash exposure, resulting color casts, overexposure or ghosts in case of moving objects. I wrote to Godox and ask them to fix firmware.

It looks like AD300PRO is more of a AD200 upgrade - a bit more power and at least some modelling light. But if you need a useful modelling light for big modifiers (like a 130 cm brollybox) than AD400PRO is still a better option and it'll compliment AD200 better.

Hi Wes, great review again. In the Netherlands, the AD300 and AD400 have about the same price. I want to practice with flash photography and especially HSS to take beautiful photos in daylight. i have budget for one flash. So I have to choose between an AD300 or an AD400. so we have to choose between portability and flash power. because I mainly want to use it outdoors, portability is desirable. But if I have a portable flash that does not have enough power, it is pointless. what would you do? portability of the AD300 is fantastic but can the AD300 also be used outside? Or is it better to choose the AD400 and loose the portability? incidentally, I am a hobby photographer and so the flash is not used professionally.
@WesPerry4 жыл бұрын
Outdoors, with a soft box, the 300 is really only powerful enough at sunset. The 400 can be used in brighter light, but mid day you still have to be quite close to the subject. Mid day I often find the 600 isn’t quite enough power for what I try. Haha 😏

AD300 Pro (200 Pro/100 Pro) doesn't need channel scanning because it's receive only.
@WesPerry Жыл бұрын
That totally makes sense, but it has all the hardware necessary to execute the function, so why not just put it in? At least in my own particular use case, I usually come in and set up my lights before ever even opening up my camera bag. This means I have to remember to dig my transmitter out of the bag to scan first, or pull the lights back down and adjust their channels after. It’s nice to have options!
@jaym5938 Жыл бұрын
Yet you still wait to adjust your lights with the trigger 'after' setup. I'm surprised that you found the battery life less than stellar and the LED lacking. I find the LED quite bright and have only had to change the battery once, and that was during a noon sun shoot using HSS. I like the versatility of the 300 so much I got three. Although, there should be far more Godox mount mods available - not a fan of the S-Type bracket when packing small.
@WesPerry Жыл бұрын
Yes but I can’t adjust the channel the lights are on with the trigger. I have to go bring the lights down to adjust them. With a modifier on the AD300 I don’t know if I’ve ever been in a circumstance dark enough or wide aperture enough for the LED to do anything at all for me. Everyone’s use case will vary, of course. And I was also expecting a lot more godox mount stuff to appear, but it seems almost as abandoned as their magnetic mounting system. A little disappointing. All that being said, the AD300 is my most used flash still to this day.

There are also companies that make gels specifically sizes to wrap around bulbs of different flashes. What else am I going to scan channels with? Should I bring my V1 everywhere I go to do it? The XPro2 has it, but that’s only available at Adorama in the states...not in my country.

nice presentation. Ihave two V1, one ad200pro, one ad400pro and I am interested with this ad300pro for portability, power and better modeling light than ad200pro. modeling light is important. I find that once you put a soft box on the AD300, the modelling light isn't Super useful most of the time. As far as their Godox mount soft boxes go, they're still really hard to get in my country, so I haven't been able to go hands on with them yet. They sent me some soft boxes a couple months ago, and I was hoping it was them, but it turned out to just be more Bowens mount boxes...which is much less interesting. haha

When this was first announced I was so distracted by the shiny bits and I said I got to get this but I have four Ad200 and the A.D. 300 only gives me a half a stop more output for $500.so I'm still undecided, but it is shiny :)

it's amazing that your cat did not push the flash off the stool!

Haha. One would think! He stopped pushing things off tables years ago, thankfully.

By the way, your new studio setup looks great. Hold on....I hear your doorbell ringing. Hey, it's Gerald Undone with his clipboard at your front door!

Lol, thanks ;) But I think I’m still about 90,000 subs away from Gerald pulling into the driveway 😏

AD300 took a 7 foot fall with the QR 90cm / S2 Bracket and Cstand, flash took the brunt of the hit on the concrete floor, no issues, went through a 680 shot job the next day so in build, this thing rocks, hopefully you won't have to go through my panic and mishap to find out.

I dropped mine about 3 feet onto pavement and the bulb protective glass cover shattered, but not the bulb. Still works fine, but that protective cover is super hard to find in Canada. Still looking for a replacement.

@@WesPerry you can get it from B&H, model #AD R13 it's going for US10.

Unfortunately, all said and done, that would cost me close to $70 to get to my doorstep 🤦🏻♂️

6:47 it seems like the AD200 has more mAH?
@WesPerry4 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. Seems like some capacity had to be sacrificed for higher power handling in the new battery.

What's the black backdrop you use?

Just this cheap thing: amzn.to/2zim7wU As long as you’re shooting just a bit separated from the background and a bit shallow, the cheap ones do the job. If I had to do some high fashion work at f/11, it’s cheapness would be apparent 😏

WT is the best ad 200pro or ad 300pro flash?
@WesPerry4 жыл бұрын
Best is pretty subjective. Depends on what you need. The AD200 has a unique form factor that is highly adaptable for various different applications due to the swappable head design. BUT the 300 has more power in an arguably smaller package. I’m afraid that at the end of the day, I can’t make that call for anyone else ;)

Plasticy, try Elinchromo not better. You used as far as I can see you did not use the fill ring when using the S2 bracket , no wonder it bends. You’re deforming the ring. Go use it please. Compare prophoto color stability for fun. You be surprised and then compare prices.

this is actually a downgrade from the ad 360 ii . i have my head set about 8 ft high .. it takes less than a second to change batteries out being seperate ( main buying point) plus its more powerfull than the 300
@WesPerry4 жыл бұрын
They’re very different devices. One of the biggest differences for me is that the 300’s 1/1 recycle time is about 1.5s, while the 360ii’s recycle time is 4.5 seconds. Even at the same equivalent output it’s much slower. The AD360 is essentially designed to be the ultimate on camera flash, where the 300 wouldn’t make any sense at all. As I mention in my video, the biggest point for the 300 is it’s portability. Takes up much less space than the 360, and in a more convenient form factor (for someone who’s used to packing lenses). But yeah, there are definitely a lot of much better buys out there, as I mentioned. You’re definitely paying for the form factor and recycle time.

not that different a modeling light

I don’t really even count the modeling light, as it not really bright enough to be terribly practical.

@@WesPerry the recycling time on manual using 1/16th is instant .. i can rattle off 8 frames at 250th second .. with the y cable it halves again (full power)

@@WesPerry ok iv just rattled off 7 frames a second on 32 power down to 16 power same 7 frames a second .. no 4.5 second recycling time it flashes as fast as my 7fps drive at 250th a second
