Ad300, great light, color balance, and priced right! I can have almost 4 Ad300 pro lights to one B10, remember light is light, you have to know how to use it.

But...it's...not... "Pro-fessional".... and "overheats" and has less output....and doesn't even trigger the flash properly....and the battery on the ad200 doesn't have as much juice as the 10b...

@@PJ-hx5kw I just made 300+ shots in a crossfit gym yesterday and the AD300 pro fired every time and I even shot about 20 min video. I didn't even use the second battery. So for my needs - AD300 is a PRO-fessional light and you can get the job done. I am using it for real estates as well and never had an issue. And I truly believe that for most people/pro photographers PROFOTO is just a way to show to other photographers that they make more money :D :D

Michael, your work is amazing and has been an inspiration for me. I was a Profoto guy for awhile. I had a pair of D1's and the B2 Location kit. Great performers and quality build but way overpriced. Still, I made the investment. What really ticked me off though is all the accessories are way overpriced as well. Everything with Profoto stamped on it is absurdly priced. When Godox came along with those 200's, I tried one and was sold. I sold all my Profoto gear and had enough to completely outfit my studio and location lighting and buy a new camera body. I've never had a reliability issue with any of my Godox (actually Flashpoint) gear. In fact, the only time I've had lighting equipment fail me on a job, it was the Profoto B2 kit that went belly up on me at a wedding. I am a full-time professional in business for 10 years now , almost 3 years with the Godox stuff and I have never regretted making the switch.

@@Libinkttm V1 is great. I have one. Love it for general use but also in the studio for lighting my backgrounds because of the round head, I don't have the AD300 yet. I actually ordered one yesterday so I should have it in a few days. The 200's have been my workhorses. I'm hoping the 300 becomes my new location light.

Same - I love my Godox gear. I’m guessing Profoto put him up to this video. The comparison with the Magbox wasn’t apples to apples - even he said you lose efficiency by taking off the front reflector and that on location power is everything. Wonder how two ad200’s compare in the Magbox to the Profoto.

Nice assumption. But they didn’t. As I’ve stated a bunch and in the video. The godox is a great product. We own them at our studio too. The comparison is as fair as it can get because you cannot use a softbox with the reflector. It’s just the way it’s designed.

Longtime Profoto user - since 20++ years. Profoto essentially kicked pros to the curb and really do not offer adequate service. I (and others) have loads of Profoto lights that are not all that old and do not work and cannot be serviced for a reasonable fee. Godox is AMAZING - super high quality and the price makes it a no brainer. Profoto has become an inside joke among commercial photo professionals. Now - it is Godox for the win.

Unless you are a "legend of light" Profoto treats working pros like crap. I am not the only one insulted by their "support" and love how many other photographers are now adopting Godox and other brands. Word of mouth is way worse for their business than the sales from 175 Sal Cincotta A1 youtube videos.

Foto Fx for me it’s not just the money, but the system: it goes from the normal flashes moves to the ad200 line , then stuff like the ad300-ad600 and the ad1200 the thing they are missing is the high end wall generators. So foe a very good price one gets into a very complete system.clearly decent global support (and rentals) is a must for many high end photographers but many of us can “make it “ with carrying a spare. Ah , and I forgot :no need to send it in to change a bulb

I agree with you on lots of points... I do have the AD300 in one lens slot in my backpack. I had the AD200 and shoot bare bulb. It's much longer the more cumbersome than the AD300. Keep in mind, that the AD300 recycle time is much better than the AD200. Just to mention, you might want to look into the Godox ADS65/85 modifiers that mount directly to the strobe (no bowens needed).

You are making review and didn't even tested godox ad300pro. For b10 + trigger I have to pay 2000 USD and for ad300pro + trigger 560 USD, almost 4 time more. Is B10 4 time better than ad300pro? Can you make with B10 1280 full power flashes with one battery, has it 1200 Ws power output (4 time better than ad300pro)? Ease of use - to turn on the modeling light on godox you just need to push one button, to change the power just hold down a button for a second - this is what you call big difference in Ease of use? I have never missed a shot with ad200, even in burst mode and I'm doing a lots of weddings, newborn and maternity photography. At the and of your review you are saying that professional photographers should not use ad300pro and at the beginning you are saying that both lights are amazing. Would you be a professional photographer if you use only Godox lights? Of course you would. But probably you would be ashamed using cheap lights from China. To me, B10 is better flash then ad300pro in every aspect, but only slightly. I wouldn't advise anyone again B10, it is amazing light with great design and I love it. I'm just saying that the ad300pro does the same job and it's much cheaper.

I've used Godox and Profoto. The biggest thing for me and the reason I actually still use Godox and have sold my Profoto (for the time being) is the trigger and versatility. The ability to combine small flashes like the TT350S for a hidden pop along with an ad600 for main and 300's as fill = incredible versatility. A rotating adjustment knob = speed. If I'm doing a 3 - 5 light setup the amount of time I save with Godox vs Profoto way outways the "quality" differences (which is a very quickly closing gap). If Profoto updated their trigger - I think it'd be a game changer.

I often hear the comment from profoto users "if you are a pro and need dependability" then choose a profoto. I shoot both studio and environmental portraits/weddings and have used two AD600 Pros and a few AD200s for the last three years (use of lights) and have not missed a single shot due to flash not firing. Flashpoint/Godox has proven to be very reliable for me, if this was not true, then the price difference would not be an issue. Just my thoughts

I had a B2 and was using it and the soft plastic on the modelling light button just fell off? Their chargers also die out due to what someone mentioned is a weak soldering point. I have 2 AD200 and 2 on-camera flashes and not one battery or remote has died in 2 years of constant usage. The AD200 is genius in it's flexibility. I actually use it with bare bulb head on the Profoto Magnum using the Godox-Profoto adapter. What a combo.

I have sold all my Godox equipment, several AD400 Pro incl. all Bowens light shapers! The reason was that Godox did not trigger every time and now and then a black photo resulted. Since I would have had the best picture exactly during this release, I had to act. Since I earn money with photos I change now to Profoto. Well, for all those who are still looking for a Godox trigger suitable for Nikon, the Xpro1 can buy this for 49.-.

Brilllliant review dude. Been shooting for 15 yrs now but decided to invest in Godox mainly bcus of the "ease of use" & "eco system". Profoto only caught up with Godox when it comes to ease of use only after the release of the B10. Godox remote also out perform profoto's. The benefits does not justify the price tag compare to the Godox price. I rather buy 4 Ad300 instead of 1 B10 and remote. Like you said, i too will definitely go for the Ad300 over the Ad400

The user interface is so simple and sleek which allows me to be efficient for wedding and portraits. The biggest feature that sold me was the modeling light. As much as I like, and am satisfied with Profoto, if I were starting from scratch today and Godox and Profoto have similar products, I would choose Godox only because of price and value. We have just added a B10 to our arsenal (just wondering, if we should go for the B10 Plus, because of power). But what really has changed the game for use, was the Profoto A1, as our Canon speedlite died off. So happy with it, no more mess with the batteries. This thing is rock solid. Adding a B10 for the wedding promo shoot was a natural choice then.

Commercial photographer, here. You always pay, in excess, for small increments beyond a certain level. A Mercedes is a bit better than a Genesis .... but you pay 4 times as much for that "little bit." And you keep paying and paying .. (repairs, maintenance, etc). I have used both Flashpoint xpl300s (and Xpl400/600/1200) and Profoto B10's. I cannot see how this comparison is very pertinent. It ignores some real points in favor of Godox/Flashpoint, and also raises unfounded questions about the AD300 -- for instance, I'm not sure how AD200 overheating is a "neg" on AD300, which is a different light. 1.) The Profoto modelling light is better, but neither are useful for video. The AD400/600 are barely good enough, forget both the b10 and AD300. 2.) The Profoto system is much more expensive to maintain, batteries in particular. Cost of modifiers, controllers, and batteries (huge) etc adds exponentially. I can get almos t4 extra AD300 batteries for the price of ONE Profoto battery. This ............ this............. ALONE! 3.) The Godox/Flashpoint is actually more color accurate. My personal testing verified what I've seen elsewhere ... the Gdx/FlP color mode is fantastic. 4.) TCM is a game changer, and makes it easier for beginners, imo. 5.) Profoto repairs are money, but you have to send it far away. Flashpoint from Adorama honored my repair with a replacement in less than 2 weeks, cannot say how reliable they other than the one speedlight I sent in. 6.) Yes, the B10 punches above its weight, re Watt/Seconds (Joules). I get 1/3-1/2 stop in my modifiers vs the Xpl300. 7.) B10 has better HSS, with better color and higher speed, imo. 8.) B10 has MUCH worse resale value compared to its price when purchased new. 9.) For those who have used neither ..... google "replacing Profoto B10 bulb" ... have fun. (Not user replaceable, and DIY violates warranty). But ...... $500/$70 vs $1800/$450 for 1 strobe and 1 controller ... (leaving modifiers out of this). I see them as equals with advantages and disadvantages to each, slight edge (lux/lumens) performance to the B10, and edge versatility in system to AD300. So these differences are minute compared to the $1000's spent here. You can get six lights 300w, 400w, 600w, a controller and a 1200w battery-pack from Flashpoint for the price of just 3 B10s and Profoto Air! (That's what I did, and now I only shoot Profoto b10 for a company that asks me to use their gear in their studio.)

Great review Michael. I use both both systems and typically bring out my B10's. It is tough though to swallow the price tag for run and gun applications due to drops, spills, and lost gear. I left a B10 at a wedding once and it was gone. That deducts 1700 from the profit from that wedding. Ugh, so I understand the price gripes. I love my B10 and the simplicity. I use a lot of continuous light at reception coupled with the Stella 8000's because we do both photo and video so it's invaluable. There are photogs that use Profoto because they have 10k invested in modifiers and other lights like A1's etc. Godox is a great fit for people that want more value with very similar results. The profoto is a better light but not 1200 better. I will still use profoto because of ease of use and works with my A1's. Comments that hit you for the "if your pro" comment are just being a little touchy. I got your point and agree with you. I know you were not incinuating that Godox users are not pros. lol. Calm down people. Thanks again for taking the time to do the review and hope you guys are doing great despite the tough year. Let's catch up! Mike

Hey Michael . . . . Great vid! I've used (but do not own) B10's a few times, and have loved them. I totally understand that you compared the AD300 and B10 stock, as they come -- but one thing that would have been really interesting to see you compare would have been adding Godox's Profoto adapter to the AD300; as an addition to your thorough review, that might have been rather revealing to see the 300 as 'now' a true poor-man's B10. For $20, and not adding much bulk to the system, that adapter would also have changed the output characteristics of the lamp and modeling light. BUT, I get that no one is REALLY buying a 300 to then use Profoto mods. (Lol) . . . . nonetheless, it would be interesting. And I love the OCF grid system and such, so I can see some use-cases for having that adapter. Just my thoughts . . . keep up the great work!

If I gonna use big modifier such as 3 foot octa on manfrotto nano stand, it is gonna be top heavy. For this kind of situation I prefer profoto b2. Yeah, i can use my bag as sand bag or using c-stand instead nano stand, but for run and go situation.. for me b2 is more convenient. Good thing about b10 is faster initial setup.

One thing on Godox side is the new release of Godox mount modifiers. The Ad300 and Ad400 go right in and the mount is considerably smaller then Bowens or Any other brand. Making travel with them easier to pack. And if you use a bag with Lightstands and flashes in it like a Strobius. You can now fit and zip closed the bag with a couple light stands and a couple modifiers. They only have 2 softboxes now and a large reflector with the godox mount. When they get a strip box released it will be an awesome travel kit. And the Ad400 has the cord option so you can have it with larger modifiers if you choose and have less weight up high on the stand. I like the B10 and B10 plus. But the Godox line just has way more options for lighting now. In studio, Profoto still has them. But for battery and outside use Godox reigns. The B10 I agree had more power directly in front of the flash. I almost bet the Godox Ad200pro with Fresnel has more power directly in front of the flash then the B10. But if filling a larger softbox. The ad300 does that better and casts a more even light across the face of the modifier. While the Ad200pro with fresnel and Profoto b10 and b10 plus have a hotspot in the center of the face of the softbox. Because they both use a Fresnel front lens that focuses the beam. And I've tried them all. And I still use Elinchroms new ELB400,1200's because of the better power of HS over HSS that both Godox and Profoto use outside in bright sunny areas.

I have relied on my Profoto system's performance for years to get the job done, every time and I am never disappointed. From the B1 to B10 to A1's. Very nice review. I was thinking about the 300 but after seeing this and a few other reviews I think I’ll stick to the 200s. I have the 600 non pro when it came out and it’s great but it’s weight not so fun so when I have an assistant I use the attachment to move the flash bulb to the adapter but then it’s almost like it’s not battery powered because of the cord and all you have to carry (basically less convenient). So unless needed I tend to save it for studio stuff. So that made me interested in the 300 but it doesn’t quite seem to have a big advantage over the 200 and while a modeling light would be nice on occasion, I would rarely use it especially on location. Being a part time photographer currently, I would love to go ProPhoto because of its reliability (it does suck when the flash doesn’t go off on occasion). But like you said for the investment of the flashpoint or godox units they are a good value and provide photographers gear that can help us still create some beautiful imagery. Thanks for sharing.

"Very few people are considering buying this (Godox) over this (Profoto)." That's precisely why I watched this. I've been shooting professionally for over 10 years. I have held off upgrading to Profoto so many times because each time I upgrade my strobes, I just get more bang for my buck from Godox/Flashpoint or literally any other brand of strobes. I get that Profoto is the "Apple" of photo strobes, but it doesn't necessarily mean that we get more from them when it comes to the final product. A good photographer can make shit happen with some Yungnuo speed lights and a whiteboard. You can literally get 3 AD300Pros for the cost of 1 B10. It's kinda bullshit because eventually, you will have to upgrade them again.

The difference between Apple and Profoto is that they don't treat their customers like dirt. I am not the only working pro they have turned way after I called their "support" line. I just switched from (2) godox ad600 pro and 1 ad200pro to (2) profoto B10 and I am so glad I did. I agree profoto B10 in my opinion is the best light out there for at least my needs. Love the profoto remote never have a problem seeing the display like I did with the flashpoint remote in the sun. And just not having to hear the fan all the time is great. My only gripe about profoto is the cost of the modifiers like the octabox, then a speedring, then a soft grid. That adds up so fast compared to what you can get a bowens mount for with all that. Other then that I will never use anything other then profoto.

I have heard precious few comments regarding either Godox reliability problems or any firing inconsistencies. Regarding overheating, Godox do have a built in thermal point where they go into a reduced firing rate and I have encountered this; it may be an overly protective algorithm built in. I would rather have the versatility and built in back up of three Godox units vs only one Profoto. Although I have an extensive amount of Godox units for my own use, I did purchase 2 new Profoto B1's as a gift for a friend a few years ago. Right out of the box one failed and required 6 whole months to rectify. That part was not cool.

Can you clarify whether your power difference comment is accurate? Specifically it seems that you softbox tested the profoto vs the Godox “without the reflector”, and as a result recorded that the Godox was a stop less powerful. Why not leave the reflector on the godox, which would seem to me to be more fair since the profoto has a flat front (and fairness is also demonstrated by your light spread test against the wall)?

Shady? Yeah man, super confused, but it’s KZbin so I guess it’s ok to make conspiracy accusations. You can go to 3:21 to see the meter. Both lights were full power. We also measured at half, and a quarter and power remained consistent on both lights, which is a good sign for both of them. What reason would I have to change numbers? Profoto doesn’t pay me, I’m no employee of theirs. And as I said in the beginning of the video, Profoto and godox are not competing for the same photographer. I’m just a user of their products. That isn't the AD300 reflector though, that's the protective cover of the head!!! The little hole on the protective cover there to help dissipate the remaining heat of the flash head in case you packed it quickly... No wonder you got a lower reading!!!!

I'm a Elinchrom user, and I was very interested by your review as I'm thinking to buy one of these two, until I've seen you were comparing the modeling light of both with the reflector cap on for the Godox!! (which means a lot, discredit all this comparison and your channel/reliability!) sorry Good try anyway!

The ad300 pro says 12w LED lamp....the profoto b10 says 150w.........you tested them to be the same power output? I'm not a fan of the extremely over priced name tag/price tag on profoto, but the LED lamp was a big deal on paper.

Hi Michael, In terms of QUALITY of light, do you notice a difference between Profoto and Godox? I am a professional photographer and I have always used Profoto. I'm investing in a home set up, and although Godox is verrrry tempting because of the price... I'm concerned that "budget" strobes will look, well, budget-y. Profoto is so crisp and sharp. Any noticeable difference? Also- your thoughts on the B10 vs B10 plus? For home studio and occasional on location needed to overpower sun?

@@MichaelAnthonyphoto well.. since you have it on the entire time even when showing the modeling lamp… soooo. Wasn’t sure you know. Especially based on all the other inaccurate things you said about the Godox. Misfires? Not sure where you got that. If you get any it’s likely because you didn’t do a frequency scan for which channel to use. Something I don’t think the profoto remote even let’s you do. Multiple buttons for an assistant to change power? Why would an assistant ever need to do so? With the $60 trigger from Godox you can change the power and see all light powers from the trigger… something the $400 profoto trigger can’t do…

I’m not hating on Godox. I like their products a lot and recommend them. Misfiring and overheating is a thing with some of their lights. It happens. Been tested and proven over and over again not just by me but by many other Godox users. Can’t ignore it in a review. But for 1/3 of the price it’s expected to not have perfect consistency. Wouldn’t stop me from buying them if I was in the market, would just be more selective on the lights I choose to use for specific events.

@@MichaelAnthonyphoto Don't know what to tell you. I own 4 AD200s, 300 pro, 1200 pro, 4 ad600s and multiple speedlights. have never had misfires or over heating. You would have to be shooting at a pretty high rate of speed to see overheating issues and/or over taxing your HSS which most flashes will start to have issues with. (especially since profoto has slower recycle times) I have also in the past 5 years or more never heard anyone bring up either of those issues and I regular speak around thousands of photographers. You went on to say something like... if you are a professional you would select profoto... which of course is just absurd. I owned profoto, alien bee, elinchrom and godox/flashpoint. not much difference. And then there are all the ways godox shines that profoto can't touch. Price (of course), massively better speedring, ability to get multiple triggers for different flash systems vs $400 a pop, Can change flash power from the remote and know what flash power you are on over multiple strobes, and one of the biggest ones... the ability to add an extension head so that you don't have a heavy (and expensive) flash at the top of your light stand or on the end of a pole where your assistant wants to harm you after a long day. Larger flash power within reach (a $1200 1200 watt unit vs profotos $16,000 version) and I have seen the extensive side by side tests and you aren't giving up anything to the profotos. In fact I believe the equivalent godox had higher output (not to mention again the much more affordable batteries so you can have more on hand) When you are buying profoto you are buying for the name on the side of it. (same with all of their modifiers). Your clients don't care. Elinchrom used to be nice but they got rid of their pack and head system in favor for an all in one unit. (plus their speedring was worse than profotos)

So now two of them are selling the Godox for the Profoto...! And “light is light, it’s knowing how to use it” Well, in photography there is a bit more to it..

Aww yes ProFoto the Leica of strobes and modifiers. Unless you’re a trust fund baby I much prefer to spend the real money on bodies and especially glass where real quality differences are obvious. 5yrs ago you could argue there wasn’t really an affordable alternative but Godox is making quality affordable strobes everyone can afford. This full power nonsense is irrelevant to me. I can’t recall the last time I shot any of my Godox portable strobes at 1/1. I’ll gladly trade 1 stop of light for the thousands of dollars.

Not to mention in a finished photo can ANYONE tell the difference between using godox vs profoto?!
@whiterock1865
@whiterock1865 2 жыл бұрын
When you work in pro video, photo, and/or audio...you get used to exponentially higher prices for diminishing returns. The comparison in the audio world is general price gradients of microphones, under $100 shit, $100-500 pretty good, $500-$1000 more refined cleaner sound, $1000-2500 very slightly better (better roll off, etc), $2500-2xxxx (specialized sound or function that is desirable). Now can pros tell the difference, yes if they're listening day in and day out to various mics, voices etc, but very unlikely they could tell what mic in the finished product. Same with photos, no one can look at a finished photo and say yeah that was a profoto or a godox. But pros pay the premium for things that they value...and in lights it sometimes just comes down to the details, reliability, consistency, build, mounts, etc.

1.28 you say an unbiased review and in the next sentence you say that Profoto is better than Godox. Definite bias before the testing is done.
