I've only watched to the 2:50 min mark, and I've already gotten something out of this video that NO other KZbinr has done. That's to show how big those domes really are! I could never get a sense of it from other videos. I knew some of them were big, but WOW, that will take up a LOT of space in a moderately sized office or studio. Thanks

Nice comparison between panels and "chip on board" lights. I agree with everything except when you said "The bigger the soft box, the better the light you gonna get". Not always better. Just softer. It all depends on what you're trying to achieve. Softer often means "more pleasing", but it can also be boring if the shot demands more contrast and drama.
@OttoJulian_2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I was focused about getting softer and "more pleasing" light like you said, and under those circumstances it's better, but yeah, if someone is not looking for that effect then it's not gong to be better. Thanks

Thank you for the comparison Otto! I plan to make fitness and yoga videos in my living space with white walls. At times I will be having the window with white sheer curtains as a back light. I saw another KZbin video that indicated that the Neewer 660 doesn't blend well with natural light and perhaps resulting in a greenish tint. Does the Godox SL60 blend with natural light?
@OttoJulian_ Жыл бұрын
If you are just going to blend it with natural light the SL60 might be a better option, but if you have the budget, I’d recommend to go with their bigger version, the SL150 II (there should be a video in my channel) or something with more power. The amount of area that you have to cover for fitness and yoga might not be ideal with these ones

probably im guessing that if you do alot of intricate work that require specific softboxes (octa/square/rectangle/or maybe parabolic) typical bowens mount Light are the best Sl60/SL100 etc while the light panels suffer from versatility of modifying the light...in most cases light panels do well in KZbin environment where u just place it at a specific location and have one foldable diffusion panel close to subject...I personally was using the SL60 no complaints but due to small size of room I am planning to switch over to the light panels and have a foldable diffusion to diffuse the light. it boils down to personal taste...also the battery option is better for some ppl like me since I only shoot video less than 30min.
@OttoJulian_3 жыл бұрын
true, and well said. I agree that it comes down to personal preferences. I don't have a KZbin "studio" but I don't mind having my giant softbox sitting on a corner, but light panels can do so much as well.

Great review, but the battery option on the led panels make them more versatile for using in the field, away from a plug socket. Their size and weight is also useful when shooting in confined places, and they dont get hot like cob lights, so they are super quick to de-rig after a shoot. You can pick up a full set of 3 led lights and stands for a third of the cost of 1 aputure 120d.

@Nothing But Love there's definitely a trade off to be done, but not everyone has the budget for high end gear, and if you manually white balance correctly the differences are very minimal. I have a question-- How do you get those gorgeous purples and blues in your backgrounds? I haven't seen them before. And, unlike other videos that use cool colors, the feel of your blue and purple lights is always warm. I'd love to see a video on how you get that color and feel, compared to other blue lighting schemes. Lastly (sorry for all the words), I'm actually in the process of trading my 660 bi-color for and Godox ml60bi. I'm planning to use the 660 as a hair light-- so talk about relevant! 2 things I'd love to learn about, if you're interested in requests-- 1) What light stand to get for the Godox with a softbox, and; 2) How to modify your light stand so you can tilt a 660 with a soft box downward. And thank you again. Really terrific videos.

Hey Scoobie! How are you? On paper the difference in LUX per meter is not that much (Neewer:3360 vs Godox 4100) But I can feel a big difference in brightness, specially if you only use the white bulbs on the Neewer. With the Godox I can almost fill my living room with just that light and have a bright scene, with the neewer I think I would need at least 2 units to replicate the same kind of light. @@ScoobieDee I don't really have direct experience with that light, and the brand doesn't offer a lot of info on their website. I just took a look at B&H and it says that the lux is at 2080 at 1meter. On paper it's kinda odd that it would output less than the neewer, considering it has so many LED bulbs. I get the feeling that this light could be better than the neewer 660 but the Godox, having a chip on board kind of LED and paired with the softbox, will produce a better result. I upgraded from my SL60w to the SL150W mark II just because I feel that they give me a "better" kind of light than those panels, and I never looked back.

hard to answer that, because it will depend on what you are filming, and what kind of lighting effect you are going after. 60 Watts might be enough and I would say that it could be the minimum but with that being said, and taking in consideration that lights are not so expensive nowadays, I would go with at least 100 watts. @OttoJulian_4 жыл бұрын
Hello Andrew, thank you for watching the video. What I don't like about that particular softbox is that the design does not allow me to tilt the light. The size for the diffusing "quality" is rather low if I compare it to a regular diffuser that comes on a 5 in 1 reflector where the price is also lower, and that's why I haven't used this softbox except to show it on some KZbin videos. There is a version that solves the size issue and makes the light softer, I think the brand is Kamerar D-fuse..which gives you 23" on the front size instead of 16".

the bigger the soft box the better ! It's impressive but I don't have room for such a big soft box , I need a studio ;-) I would love to have the Aputure 120d II .... one day as it's 850 euros here. Thank you Otto for showing us different type of lights for our different budget and explaining in a easy way why and in which case they are interesting.

Hey Celine! Thanks for watching! and yeah, the bigger the better lol. Oh I'd love to have that aputure 120D II as well, but it is expensive like you said! can't justify that kind of expense right now. You are welcome, I don't have a studio either, it's all next to my dining table, not the sweetest spot but doing what it takes to get the videos out. I actually admire your patience for using natural light 😅

Ciao Otto. Im doing live on line fitness lesson in my living room . Behind me there is a light grey empty wall . What do you reccommend for having a professional impact in my footage ? I have for starting bought a little moman video light but I would like to upgrade my setting . And once i bought one of this two how could I use the moman ? Thanks
@OttoJulian_4 жыл бұрын
Hello Steve. It will alm depend in your budget and space. If you want to lower the cost I'd suggest to get 2 panels like the neewer 660. If budget allows it, I would definitely go with the bigger softbox and a COB LED light like the godox SL60 or the SL150 Mark II. if your wall is too close to you there are going to be unwanted shadows, those can be avoided by using honeygrids on your softbox, or placing yourself at a distance from the wall.
@SteveMariniF4 жыл бұрын
@@OttoJulian_ thanks Otto Could I buy Neewer SL-60W LED Video Light ? With Neewer 65cm Softbox ?
@OttoJulian_4 жыл бұрын
@@SteveMariniF yeah, it would be the godox SL60, and it is compatible with the neewer softbox. Just make sure that the softbox says "Bowens mount".
@SteveMariniF4 жыл бұрын
@@OttoJulian_ thanks Otto . Last question why you suggest more the softbox than the led ?
@OttoJulian_4 жыл бұрын
@@SteveMariniF in my opinion it gives you a softer light and makes the skin look more appealing with no harsh shadows. The other advantage of getting a COB is that you can indeed use it without the softbox for a stronger output. The LED panel could work fine but it will also depend on how much you want to light. I might be wrong but I'm supposing that you need to cover a large area when doing a fitness video. Oh something else, if you have a white ceiling you can also bounce the light up there. If you choose the panels get 2 to feel them out but a third might be needed. If you get the COB (AKA Godox SL60) you could prooobably get away with just one. But for example, when I do product photography I like having at least 2 light sources. I hope this helps.

I just order two bi-color 660s and two RGB 480s. I’m a beginner, and cost was a big consideration, not to mention space. I’m going to use the 660s just to light a fairly large green screen (although not for full body, just wide)...so I didn’t order any soft boxes for that. However, I did get Neweer’s boxes for the 480s, which will be my key and fill lights. However, you can’t tilt these boxes DOWN on standard light stands. What is the accessory/attachment called that I need to do this? Does it have a proper name? Some kind of boom attachment? Thanks for your help.
@OttoJulian_3 жыл бұрын
Hello Ira, there is an accessory for that but I was searching for it and I can't find it (not sure about the name either). If the RBGs that you bought are the new versions, they should have a separate hole on the light stand receptacle, it will allow you to place the panel on a horizontal mode and there should be more space for tilting with a softbox. I have a video on the Neewer 660 RGB and I show there what I am talking about
@Ira888813 жыл бұрын
@@OttoJulian_ Yep!!! My newer Neewer 480 RGBs just arrived, and they have that side hole! So I’m cool. I was mostly concerned about these for the soft boxes. Still curious about modifying the older 660s with just the barn doors. I used the other mounting holes on the light which gives you a LITTLE tilt, but hardly. Thanks for taking the time to reply! If you can think of the name/come across the part to really modify it, please let me know.

Man, I am not with you in a few things: 1- You can not control natural light, but you can modify it for your purpose. 2- "The bigger the softbox, the better light you´re gonna get." I would say "the bigger the softbox, the softer light you´re gonna get" 3- You also can work with the Godox as a direct light. That´s exactly why this round reflector cap is placed at the front of the light. 4- Is no doubt that the wires are an issue and the NP batteries are more practical, but there is a solution, huge power banks. Is truth they are more expensive. They don´t pay any brand. Just my thoughts.
@OttoJulian_4 жыл бұрын
Hey Nano! I agree with you, just that talking about light in general is a very extensive topic and is not easy to compress all that information while talking about 2 different lights in less than 10 mins. 1. We can modify natural light in many ways, but I was thinking more about the fact that continuous light will help with the right exposure as long as you need it. I've seen people shooting with natural light and how their exposure changes as the hours go by, and not everyone know how to fix that through the day. A few clouds in 30 mins is going to change the whole scene. This is a common mistake specially with KZbinrs. 2. Yeah, maybe I'm being subjective but softer for me is better, unless you are looking for a different effect. 4. I think I am too lazy, I can't imagine myself carrying huge power banks and the average consumer that would buy this kind of lights probably won't either. It kind of depends on everyone needs right? :) Thank you for pointing out all that, great feedback all around!

I never claimed to be a "professional", and about natural light is just an "intro" to the rest of the video, because not everyone knows about it.
