Godshe reminds me of my good old school days when i would come back home for tea wondering what mother would have made to gobble up. Godshe was one of those finest tea time surprises she had in store. Godshe is like payasam to a certain extent except it does not have dry fruits at all, its sweetness is derived from the unique pyramid shaped goan palm jaggery.

Split chickpeas - 250 gms (1 cup)
Goan Rice - 250 gms (1 cup)
Palm jaggery - 100 gms
Sugarcane jaggery - 100 gms
Cardamom powder 2 tsp or 2 turmeric leaves
Salt 1 tsp or as per your taste
Thick coconut milk - 600 ml ( 2 1/2 cup)

Please use wooden spoon for sweet and sauces cooking. If you wish for a variation to this godsay add black eyed beans also called lobia or moong dal instead of Channay ki dal. Your receipe is delicious, I made it and it turned out great. I am a Goan of Pakistan and we try all sorts of variations. We haven't given up our traditional Goan cooking but sometime it is a great help when we find you channel as you teach the proper method and share it with everyone. Luciana l was so happy to read you are a Goan from Pakistan. My great great grand must have migrated to Karachi in the 17 centuary and have migrated elsewhere. I was born in Karachi in 1947 and soon after because of the partition my dad brought us to Mumbai via Goa. I was formerly a Britto cousin of the Olympic Hockey player Jack Britto. My mum never forgot Karachi and would keep lamenting that dad took her away from her loved ones.

Exactly I want to make it in memory of her, my mom late she'll Fernandez cooked beautiful food and specially her beans curry and sweet was mind-blowing,

We made this yesterday and it is delicious. We used the instant pot instead of a pressure cooker (rice selection for 20 minutes). We increased the quantity of coconut milk by 200mL, added 3 tsps of sugar because we did not have authentic Goan sugarcane jaggery but did find something similar called "Goor" from the local Walmart store. We also increased the quantity of the palm jaggery by using two additional pyramids to get a slightly darker colour. We are very thankful L. Gonsalves! We will be trying your other recipes soon.

Hi Lesten, I was just waiting for someone to either give me the recipe of the godshe or make it n give me. Every time I went to Goa I would asksome one to make it for me. Thank you for sharing yr recipe. I will now make it myself.My mother n m.i.l would regularly make it.But pl tell me what is the best rice to use in Mumbai instead if Goa rice.

We called it as Sweet Pongal in Tamilnadu, we use cow's or coconut milk.. And it is one pot recipe.. And we don't dry and cut.. Your recipes are also nice..

Thanks alot, if you add nuts it won't remain crunchy since the moisture will be absorbed by the nuts.

Loved the video, brought back memories of my grandmother preparing this dish with turmeric leaves adds flavor, (patha yo che pana - not sure of the spelling) Have you ever ground half of the rice and the dal and kept the other half for texture, after it is softened in the cooker, to cut down the cooking time?

HI, thanks for the recipe, I am from Pakistan and visited got around four times, and whenever I came I purchased alot of the Palm jaggery, I used my last wen I made von.we get only sugarcane jaggery can I use any other alternative for the Palm jaggeey. I have my own group on Facebook called zoey fernandes' kitchen where I post a lot of goan dishes as I am a goan too and proud of our cuisine, do keep in touch glad I found your recipe
