Episode 173: The Liturgy of the Hours

I've been praying the LOH since 2004 when I had a reversion to my Catholic faith (after being away for 12 years). It's been the greatest gift and perfectly structures my daily prayer. I've gone from using the single volume breviary to the Universalis App, which is more convenient and has added features like "about today " and background on Office of Readings. It's amazing to also pray in the presence of a monastic community. My favorite Hour is Compline.

My husband and I have the privilege of praying Morning Prayer with our parish priests and some other lay people in our church. It is such a grace. We help each other because as you have said it can get complicated, but well worth the effort. I take as encouragement the suggestion to make an appointment with God and keep it. I will add another during Advent.. Much appreciation to you all for your witness of faith.

Long version: undiagnosed deviated septum infancy through middle age: deviated septum diagnosed & treated in middle age when right ear hearing loss became severe/ debilitating ( to respiratory therapist who depends on breath sounds via stethoscope for patient assessment). Beginning of Short version: When I was finally able to sing, and was no longer working, I began to sing Liturgy of the Hours with an experienced Catholic with a lovely singing voice to my left. I AM SO GRATEFUL TO HAVE HER AS MY GUIDE, AND LOL when Fr. Bonaventure mentioned how the breviary can be confusing. Continue living well, long time convert

I've been praying the Old Dominican version of the Little office of the Blessed Virgin Mary and I love it.

Yes, As a convert I also continue to favor this short version because it provides clear format without page flipping. Still, I would like to know exactly how the 1 volume and 4 volume versions work since they are closer to what the church actually is praying on a particular day... the education continues. [The short version is also an easy gift to a smart teen; it deepens prayer life as well as closeness to their spiritual mother. She loves them far more than their natural mother ... no matter how great that may be ... and she is someone who actually knows what is best for us. Ave Maria

I find the Liturgy of the Hours a challenge. But maybe someday I will be able to incorporate it in my 'system'
