I've seen grown men cry during this movie. It especially resonated with veterans. You can almost take Godzilla out of this movie and still have a compelling human drama.

Not well known in America… The intensity of American air raids was greater than in the movies. 210,000 people died in the atomic bomb in Japan. 380,000 people died in US air raids. Japan literally went down to zero.

Godzilla is actually buoyant. It isn't actually "standing" on anything, but instead it has a natural ability to go vertical due to its aquatic nature using a swim bladder and treading water to stay vertical in the deep sea.

Like Cinema Sins said...it would have been so awesome if they had put in an underwater shot showing Godzilla kicking his feet to tread water, and maybe even show some kind of inflatable flotations sacs or something. 😂💯

The first thing I wonder about folks reacting to this one is...whether they have seen the original Japanese Godzilla film from 1954...I wonder if either of them will talk about that movie? If either/neither of you have seen Godzilla from 1954, I would add it to your list...it is one of the classic scifi movies of the 1950s...along with The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Them! (1954), Forbidden Planet (1956), and many many others.

@@MovieNightReaction I hope you will add the others I mentioned too, if you have not seen them. If I am honest, I did not like this Godzilla movie as much as most other folks. The special effects were amazing for what they cost, but some of the elements made the effects much less convincing to me...and it took me right out of my suspension of disbelief. The biggest issue was the way Godzilla's walk is shown...it is so mechanical, with so little other movements that go with it, like his belly and leg flesh is completely stiff and motionless. Other than that, I know too much about what post war Japan and the US occupation of Japan was like, so the way they do not show any significant US involvement in defending against the monster is not believable to me. The reason that the original Godzilla story made sense with no US involvement is due to the US occupation of Japan ending in 1952...to portray the US as basically not present at all in the time right after WW2 is just not a thing that makes any sense. I am also not a fan of the way the whole ending was so contrived to make the movie have a 100 percent happy ending. They had done a damn good job of building up the emotional stakes with her dying, and then it was clear that he was going to Kamikaze into Godzilla in his plane, thus sacrificing his own life to save his country and/or his friends as he so tragically failed to do twice in the beginning of the movie...but then they screwed all of that up with the danged surprise ejector seat. The ending would have been much much better if he died and then we find out that she lived...much more poignant and tragic that way.

Good reaction! I would recommend reacting to the Hollywood Godzilla films named The Monsterverse. It is the current shared universe with Godzilla & King Kong. They are fun movies and has five films so far which are Godzilla (2014), Kong Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), Godzilla vs Kong, & Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire & a tv show on Apple TV plus. The unique thing with Godzilla as a character is that he’s been around for 70 years and each version of him is different where some movies he’s a hero & others like Minus One, he’s a villain (a tragic one because he is in constant pain/anger & never asked to be mutated from the atomic bomb which is why he attacks cities).

sea mines are laid for ships of all kinds; usually the enemy will put them at entrances of anchorages or harbors to make the movement of shipping (military, commercial and civilian) more dangerous and costly to the enemy. The point is to deny the inflow of supplies and the movement of military ships out of harbor. Then, mines are used as a defensive measure: say you and to slow down or keep the enemy out of your territory, you use mines as a 'barrier' to stop or delay the enemy from advancing towards your.

Do people really talk this much while watching a movie? I mean after every sentence and over dialogue? How can you absorb the fabric of the film? Also cutting away from the film every 2-3 seconds gives the viewer very little to see what you're reacting to. Glad you liked it but that was a hard watch..
