I think that Japanese Dracula scene is meant to be an homage to the TBS special that aired in the 80s starring Grandpa Munster from the TV show The Munsters. There was a point in the 80s around the time of the Godzilla 1985 film they did a marathon of Godzilla films. This marsthon made Godzilla popular to kids in the 80s leading to action figures and new movies in the 90s.

I remember growing up that until 1998, this and GODZILLA: 1985 (the re-edited New World US version of THE RETURN OF GODZILLA with footage of Raymond Burr added) were the only ones from the Heisei era series that got a US video release. GODZILLA: 1985 was the only Heisei era Godzilla film that got a US theatrical release, and because of its failure at the US box office alone, the others in the Heisei series weren't released theatrically, with GODZILLA VS. BIOLLANTE being the only other Heisei Godzilla film that had a release on VHS (from HBO Video). It wouldn't be until 1998, with the first (and awful, although I was 12 going on 13 at the time and enjoyed it while I was a kid, a long way from being an adult and afraid now to watch it for fear of really being disappointed) American God(zilla), that the other movies in the Heisei series would be released in English-dubbed prints on VHS and early DVD formats and be screened on cable TV (including runs on American Movie Classics, back when they actually showed REAL classic films on that channel and long before showing more recent films and TV series like BREAKING BAD, THE WALKING DEAD and MAD MEN). In other words, they were just released to promote a terrible American version in advance prior to its release, and while Japan and the rest of the world got to see all the Heisei Godzillas on the big screen, we United States citizens were forced to be introduced to it on the small screen. But that being said, their introduction to the American public did get more fans for the Heisei series, and GODZILLA VS. BIOLLANTE alone was the first ever Godzilla movie I got on Blu-Ray when it finally came out in that format in 2012, and personally, not to argue, it is in my Top 10 if not my Top 5 of all the Godzilla films. Being a real activist against the unethical practice and distribution of genetically-modified organisms (or GMOs) from companies like Monsanto here in Asheville, North Carolina - and actually having written about the subject once during my sophomore year at UNC-Asheville in 2006 for a biology course, and again in the fall of 2008 for my science course in the same university's Master of Liberal Arts program - this movie seems to be, if not wholly entertaining to the die-hard G fan, at least more timely in looking at the approach of GMOs from both sides of the coin. Frankenfoods in real life, while created initially for altruistic means to feed a growing world population, happen to be an even more relevant and controversial subject, along with the unethical practices to their creation for corporate purposes, than they were before. Already here in the US (and we have noticed and have been fighting some the same effects in Asheville) we have been suffering the effects of GMOs on both the human and natural environments (threatening to displace natural species, causing new cancers and birth defects, etc.), and efforts are being made to ensure that any GMO products are labeled as such, so as to give the American public warning. Biollante is a far more benign counterpart to said real-life GMOS despite its monstrous nature, and that it was created in the film as a gesture to preserve someone who was loved and lost means that the scientist in the film provides yet another message about how scientific practices for noble purposes are often corrupted by political and corporate regimes, so this is definitely a meaningful film to show to people struggling to preserve original, untainted, genetically un-manipulated organic species for health of both human and natural environments. Scientific satire aside, this movie also introduced my favorite of all the Godzilla suits, one that would undergo minor to major changes throughout the course of the Heisei series. It's great to see how he became more of an anti-hero embracing his Cold War roots as a living demon of nuclear power, and the Heisei series is far more consistent compared to all earlier entries before and later entries since (GODZILLA, MOTHRA AND KING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK being the only Godzilla movie from the Millennium series that I really loved). Can't wait to see your review of THE GIANT CLAW! (Also, is it just me, or does the guy playing Dr. Shiragami look like the Japanese version of Mads Mikkelsen?!)

Interesting difference between the Japanese and US versions of 1985 (though it was released in Japan in 1984) In the Japanese version they do not send him into the Volcano hoping to kill him but rather to send him home as that is where he came from, it also lacks the horrific scream that was added in the US version. The hope in the Japanese version is that he goes to sleep. So it only seems odd from a western perspective, this is when I started watching strictly Japanese versions. Subs > Dubs

Couple of problems i have with a plant based kaiju. First as you stated. Plants tend to be stationary. Second while nothing enjoys being on fire. Shrubs, bushes, grasses, etc. All have a pretty high mortality rate facing fire. I'm sure a rose bush falls in this category. So it has about as much chance going against Godzilla as petroledon the gasoline kaiju. Finally they kept calling Godzilla an immortal. Does this series not recognize the original movie? The oxygen destroyer was a pretty effective myth buster for the whole "immortal" moniker. Enjoying the reviews.

it came with original Japanese audio only problem is i have dyslexia which makes it so much harder for me to review a movie i basically have to watch the movie then watch it again but only focus on the subtiles

I think one reason a lot people including me think this is one of the best Godzilla movies ever made is updated analogy they used in this movie. This movie was an analogy warning about the dangers of genetic engineering like how the original 1954 movie was an analogy for the dangers of nuclear weapons. It seems like to me this analogy went over your head but that's okay. Nothing wrong with you not thinking it's one of best Godzilla movies or if you did miss this analogy. :)
