This whole Godzilla Minus One and Monsterverse Godzilla Civil War that’s been going for a while is just ridiculous. For the last 70 years, Godzilla is the most versatile character ever created. From being a force of destruction to being a hero who fights monsters. Hell, the Showa era built the foundation of Godzilla because of him fighting other monsters. I’m sure most of you people enjoyed the Monsterverse years ago, but because one movie won an Oscar and deservingly so, now you wanna act like you’re “TOO GOOD” for this? It just feeds into the same tribal BS from people on social media who wanna act like they know what is or isn’t considered “GOOD CINEMA”. It’s annoying and infuriating.

Speaking as a big Godzilla fan (seen every movie and grew up with Showa era as a kid) - I don't understand why asking for a decent human story is mutually exclusive to "dumb popcorn fun". And besides that I don't think the action is all that great in this. It just feels like a CGI fuck fest. There's no sense or scale like Godzilal 2014/KOTM. The camera moves all over the place and nothing feels like it was actually filmed. It does nothing for me. At least with Showa era they used miniatures and practical elements so it had a certain charm

You know...the director, Adam Wingard basically said, "Why CAN'T A big ape and a big lizard be characters?" It's a film so it utilizes every art form. Just because they're CGI and don't "speak", doesn't mean they aren't characters.
@ultimamage310 ай бұрын
They're better characters than the humans. When the humans are on screen they have to talk for the benefit of the audience understanding why shit goes down. When the monsters are on screen, it's all hands on deck for the mocap, the CG animators, the foley/sfx artists, and the music composers to get the same information across with basically 0 spoken dialogue.
@RoyalKnightVIII10 ай бұрын
I think the film is too afraid to go full fantastical. They go for it but pull back, they have an underground tribe that are telepaths but all that really means is that they don't talk, they don't even sign! Or more work with the dai kaiju that live on the surface.

What's your point? I own all of the Godzilla movies and some people want to talk about "dumb stuff" in the Legendary movies..There are far worse things in the Toho movies. There are literally 3 Toho movies that have a message out of over 30. Final Wars was in no universe good, from awful CGI, weird suit less power rangers, 30 second fights for 90% of the movie. On top of dancing Godzilla, flying using his breath, a giant lobster, Jet Jaguar, kidnapped by aliens, was mind controlled by aliens, had an entire island of Japanese in blackface with their berry juice, flying Kong all the way to Japan using balloons, god damned Minya. Dumb and Godzilla are two things completely tied together. Some people seem to think that every movie needs to be Shakespeare. Movies are allowed to just be entertaining, they don't have to always deliver some sort of message. I cannot stand the thought of those Hobbit movies, never seen 1 frame of any of them unless it was a trailer on tv. I know they're not for me and, I don't want them to cater to me, some movies just aren't for everyone. Anyone looking for Shakespeare should just stay away from Godzilla movies, Toho or Legendary.

Yeah no kidding. I'm a big Star Wars fan but Attack of the Clones reaches depths of cringe that even Godzilla couldn't swim to. I PHYSICALLY cringed at some of that rancid dialogue in AOTC but I didn't cringe at all to this. I think the cringiest stuff in the Monsterverse was some of the dialogue in King of the Monsters (mostly Bradley Whitford). And that wasn't THAT bad..

See the problem is that Warner Brothers try to make a serious Godzilla movie and in a way it failed because American audience wanted more Godzilla and according to critics and audience, they wanted more Godzilla now they gave them that in king of the monsters, but again the audience didn’t Like the characters and also listen, be honest, the whole fighting at night stuff was not helping The last four movies 14:16 , both audience and critics agree aThe human parts were the the worst part, so they just focus more on the monsters now doing monster shit I believe the reason Japan and Toho are able to make their human characters, relatable or good is because Godzilla is their a baby but also Godzilla is supposed to be a metaphor for things that actually happened to them in their history but yet again, Godzilla has proven that you could go in either direction just through his history alone even before these American movies, Godzilla was doing some crazy shit we had Godzilla movies with time travel, Godzilla, fighting aliens, Godzilla teaming up which was basically the power rangers magazord I think let the Japanese make the series Godzilla movies because clearly they’re good at it let us make the high budget Godzilla movies of the 70s and 80s. It’s a win-win scenario if they don’t like the goofy stuff that’s great that Japan give them the serious stuff and some people like, the goofy stuff that’s great too if you like both, you just hit the jackpot as a Godzilla fan

What I have learned after seeing these franchises make more movies is that at the end of the day it’s for the kids. Like seeing how excited the kids got in the theater with their plush toys warms my heart. Cause I remember being there too. They will keep the franchise going for another 70yrs

@lenindominguez1986 I agree with you 1000%. I don’t post negative on the channel but I will agree with constructive criticism. Folks like Korey & Martin are important for their works. I feel KZbin would benefit from tweaking Premium membership for a service similar to Patreon with the majority of the benefits going to the channels you frequent most with premium paywalls.

@lenindominguez1986 his overreactions are annoying, he’s stated things without knowing the facts and Martin corrected him a few times, and overall he’s not a good as their other guest commentators like Chris Herman or the other Julian. He’s subpar
I will immediately watch any DT video with a thumbnail of Martin facepalming 😂

You do realize the writing in this movie is no different from a lot of the older Godzilla movies, right? And yet, despite that, barely anyone had a problem with it, and now you're saying it's a problem NOW? That's doesn't sound exactly fair.

The Kong power glove suit up scene was the best part of the movie for me. And it foreshadowed that there's a whole suit for Kong that he could wear in future movies.

If humans could build MecaGodzilla... Why in this movie do they have no defenses against the attacking titans? Oh...and the way that group of 5 went to middle earth armed with 1 gun...as if they were taking a trip to Disney world.

I just find all this funny most of the bitching about the other Monsterverse movies outside of Skull Island was that they weren't fun enough and didn't have enough fun monster action. So they altered course with Godzilla vs Kong now some are bitching they want the darker more serious element back lol.
@walklytekel571310 ай бұрын
This is why Hollywood usually don't listen to the audience because we'll never all agree on anything it's sad really how hypercritical & hypocritical alot of these critics are
@ultimamage310 ай бұрын
Because the people that wanted the serious elements DON'T like the goofy elements. Those are two different sides of audience, not a massive hivemind. Find the actual people being contradictory about it and take it up with them.

@@ultimamage3 lol That would be most of the people complaining now including Double Toasted themselves. In the King of the Monsters Review they complained the movie was to serious now there complaining it's to dumb. So there right there with those same exact groups who are also complaining and yes it's most people who did complain about the serious element are now complaining they want it serious again. Most people are dumb and don't really know what they want lol.
