Flashing 12v battery light on a Peugeot Partner or Citroen Berlingo van

In this video I explain what the red flashing 12V battery light means in a Peugeot Partner or Citroen Berlingo electric van. Many see this and wrongly assume there is a fault with the van or think the 12V battery needs replacing. It simply means that the 12v battery is in economy mode and certain devices will not operate until the van is properly started. It is actually pretty pointless and would be better if it didn't exist.

Legend! I just bought a Berlingo and thought there was something wrong with it. Especially as I've been messing around with the fuse box installing a dashcam :S

Hi Matt, thanks for posting. I recently upgraded my Berlingo from a MK1. And can honestly say that this is the one thing that really annoys me with the new vehicle. While waiting in car parks etc. I like to listen to the radio. How really frustrating that it keeps switching itself off. Very bad design by Citroen in my opinion. I wonder if there's any way one can override this silly function? No other vehicle I have ever driven does this! Cheers.

All modern vehicles will switch the radio off pretty quickly to save the 12V battery. The red flashing light on these Peugeots is misleading though. Its not needed.

Welcome! How to check the status of the main battery, do you have any apps and obd?

The BMS does not report the battery SoH on these.

​@@GoGreenAutos The brand service offered to balance the batteries, so I thought the cell values could be read.

@@rdibc To balance the batteries, you just need to charge to 100% and leave it connected up to the AC power. It does it automatically. I will make a video soon about what can be read on these battery packs.

Not true. Berlingo is in standby mode, dash on, battery light flashing and van wont start…

I get this loads of times, usually when loading etc with the doors opened. Even if all the internal lights are off it still goes into saving mode. If the engine doesn't start, I just take the keys out and back again on the ignition, turn and it starts.
