Hi Matt as usual a very informative video I don’t own a Tesla ( wish I did ) but I passed on the tips in your fist video who does have a Model Y and he was very grateful. We own 2 MGs the mine the 5 and my wife as the MG4 they both have issues when frozen even after pre heating via the App a little like Tesla and the issue that remains is with the door handles which where frozen solid so here is my little tip if you dry off the handles just lightly smear with The mating surfaces the petroleum gel ( vaseline ) it sure helps. Done several weeks ago now and have been fine ever since so cheaper and less messy than silicone sprays. Thanks again for you content. Les

My Honda e has frameless windows. As the software isn’t nearly as good as Tesla, I use the double tap method. In the winter the heating is set to come on 20 minutes before I depart for work every day, on a timer (set through car or app) If the car is frozen when I take the dog for a walk an hour before then I additionally give another 20 minutes of pre heating via the app or via the key. Great video, as usual. The only problem with it is the guy you showed eating his breakfast clearly doesn’t know how to use a knife and fork.

Another good tip is not to use the folding mirror option too when you know it's going to be cold. Once folded and frozen then they don't open and possible break the mirror motor.

Absolutely. I covered that in the previous video.

I'm fortunate in can park with front half of car between houses, so sheilds from wind/ice. So defrosting or warming up is quick. Although found in -4 temps to leave heating for 20 mins, this unfeezes the door handles and windows. Good point about the vent has forgotten about that. Not sure frameless doors are needed on a giant suv.

Honestly it's clear Tesla thought this through ans provided a solution for it. I've never heard of this issue locally in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada so it might be more of an issue where ice forms on the outside of the car. That is quite a rare situation here despite how wet and snowy our winters are. Great, clear video. Thank you for sharing this!

Yes, Tesla provided all the solutions within the app. It's amazing that software can solve physical problems like this. But still, they'll be loads of comments shortly just say "Teslas are sh!t".

@@GoGreenAutosthose comments are more effective at boosting your video and channel than their smoothbrained posters realize 😉 It doesn't make them less annoying or frustrating to read though.

I had an old opel manta b for a few years and never had any trouble with my door windows freezing up.

Frameless windows likely also reduce weight, which improves efficiency and handling, as well as aerodynamic drag and wind noise. And a fixed frame can be made structurally stronger aiding safety and rigidity. After preheating, a bit of water, not too warm, on the metal above the window and handle has always worked for me though it is generally not the advised way

I'm glad you flagged this. My i3 has frameless windows and i wasn't aware.

Oh yes, I forgot about the i3. They're the same.

I guess the benefit (as with so many 'features' on Teslas) is that it saves materials and thereby construction costs. See also the feeble reversing lights on the early model 3s, the lack of a separate (and far more accurate) rain sensor for the auto wipers and the deletion of the radar sensors in favour of the far less accurate 'Tesla Vision' on later cars.

It's even worse on a model X, the falcon wings doors freeze shut and won't open - my son had to clamber in via the boot last time the doors were frozen. And what do you do if you haven't applied the gummi fledge yet - the door windows won't retract if frozen, even after 20-30 mins of pre-conditioning the windows were still frozen. Absolute PITA!

I heat up the car for 30 minutes from the mains. No issues on frozen mornings, and I don't use vent, just door unlatch. No issues.

In tight parking spots you can open the window before stelling out. It makes it easier to get out of your car. For the rest I don’t see any other advantages of the frameless windows.

3:45 The benefit of frameless windows is cost of building, and weight.

Can you set the car to defrost when you’re not next to it?! I’d need to set half hour before finish work if I had one.
@GoGreenAutos12 күн бұрын
Of course. Plus you can schedule it if that's easier.

are frameless windows possibly a weight saving thing?
@GoGreenAutos11 күн бұрын
Yes, must be and cost

the point of frameless windows is obvious. Less material in the door; cheaper to manufacture
@GoGreenAutos11 күн бұрын
I assumed it must be down to cost savings. But then why aren't any cheap cars using frameless doors? Generally only expensive cars like Bentley, Audi, BMW etc have them.
@Jimages_uk11 күн бұрын
@@GoGreenAutos I think that because of how Tesla manufacture cars they remove any unnecessary parts, reducing the amount of steps it takes to make the car. That is how they get them put together so fast.

they aren't the only company that use frameless windows. The best solution is to use a bus or some other form of transport, is that your choice? If not, I don't think your advice is helpful in any way.
