I have to say I personally prefer the Original greatly over the others. They use a "show don't tell" approach to a lot of what's going on and just let the watcher FEEL the scene, feel their own impotent anger with Gohan, then that song comes in soft and powerful which I feel matches perfectly because that is what Gohan is to a T.

So let me get this straight. For over a decade all I've read when it comes to Dragon Ball Z is that it's just people standing around yelling/powering up of several episodes and a bunch of filler. Now that we have a version of the show the trims the fat and makes it closer to the manga, all I see in the comments are "this isn't DBZ." Then there's the people who are complaining about the voice acting. It's not bad voice acting people, it's just that the people doing the voices have gotten used to it and it doesn't sound like they're straining themselves all the time. Just can't please some people it seems.

The Japanese version comes across as a more adult anime. It’s less cartoonish than that of the English version and one reason this occurs is Japanese custom creates tension through moments of silence. Less is more especially when it comes to dialogue between adversaries. The English version tries too hard to fill every little thought out through dialogue and leaves no room for an obviously knowledgeable fanbase to make suppositions and draw conclusions on our own. In the J version, just before Gohan releases his fury, they relay Gohan’s mood and awakening through music (BRILLIANT) instead of more exposition. The audience is allowed to imagine what that experience may be like as we fully connect and feel our hero’s circumstance (rather than be told exactly what Gohan is experiencing) because this moment gives us a breath-then you hear his bone chilling scream and you’re totally amazed by yet another transformation that was bound to happen. Also, Japanese Voice Artists are gifted storytellers-the range of emotions they evoke are second to none. 1. Japanese 2. Kai-they did Real Justice to this scene.

Another part of the reason people like myself like Gohan's new voice is, also, that he gets a unique voice, instead of him getting the same voice from his dad (like they did with the anime in Japan; Masako Nozawa voices the entire Son family). I still think that Colleen did a good job with Gohan's voice, even with the SSJ2 transformation. Part of the issue is with Toriyama himself, though; he kinda did a shitty job with depicting their ages and development. Gohan doesn't look like he's 11, or 9, or whatever. So the clash exists between what you see and what you hear.

+Medachod Technically it was 3 times in a way, as he discovered that fat Buu was not really evil, but just like an innocent child didn't know right from wrong that simply needed the right guidance, and he managed to befriend convince fat Buu to stop terrorizing the world. The world was basically already been saved at that point, but it was the 2 idiots human ruined it by that shooting and almost killed him and the dog, and caused fat Buu to release the true evil (thin) Buu that in turn consumed fat Buu. Like Piccolo said to Videl, in terms of power level Mr. Satan/Hercule he's nothing comparing to them, but what he's done for the world he is a true champion.

Wildy Duce gohans ssjs 2 transformation was anything but an asspull. The entire show was building up to this scene with gohans extensive training, and goku mentoring him, and how he doesn’t like fighting but needs to to protect others. It’s the last transformation that actually felt earned. The tournament of power had no stakes at all. The participants couldn’t even die and it was so blatantly obvious that whoever won would just wish for the other universes back. If Jiren was a fleshed out character that actually had motivations to win then there would be actual stakes.

Original Japanese Z scene- a true masterpiece everything was done perfectly, the scene was serious, intense, emotional, the silence of Gohan and lack of music with the song starting at just the right time, no words needed to be said the song spoke for the scene itself English Z - although I grew up watching this version now that I compare it with the Japanese original I think the added dialogue was really unnecessary with Gohan it's way more emotional when he's totally speechless English Kai- probably my least favorite although I like the added effect of 16's voice, the shortened dialogue sounds VERY scripted and cheesy plus it just felt very underwhelming

Damn man am I the only one who thinks the Kai dub is better, I appreciate the accuracy of the dialogue and the emotion they put into the dialogue especially Gohan. This boy is 9 years old not even close a teen yet. After watching multiple scenes I realized that the Kai dub is perfect for Gohan and most of fan base is too blinded by nostalgia to see that.

The Japanese soundtrack is too ambient, while it sets a mood, it rarely can get the listener as excited as the English dub. Gohan's transformation is one of the few songs that is contrary to that in the Japanese dub.

I honestly would not like DBZ as much as I do and I think many others too if the Bruce Faulconer music wasn't there. The soundtrack just HYPED people up, gave goosebumps, etc. It was so badass. DBZ is not DBZ without the Bruce Faulconer score. It isn't about nostalgia, it's just badass. They sound amazing too.

Man the original Japanese version is just the absolute best. The silence until Unmei no hi kicks in, the epic feel of the song, Masako Nozawa's incredible scream with the Oozaru roar over the top of it, it all comes together perfectly. Although the one thing the original Z dub did better than any other was Cells line "Another fighter, you could have saved."

most of the people who are bashing kai are the ones who've seen it on 4kids lmao, I've watched it on adult swim... huh, wonder why it's there if it's for kids. the others are the smart ones who say "I just don't like it because I personally don't care for it" which is respectable. in my opinion, if you want a closer and more accurate English dub, watch kai, but if you want a look at what your parents watched, go for Z, I've seen both, and am currently watching it in Japanese, and both English versions have there ups and downs, in the end it doesn't matter at all, we're all fans of the same stuff, deal with it

Phatzub The Orange boxes, which is what this uploader used, has both the Japanese Kikuchi score, and the Faulconer's score. They used the Kikuchi score, which is silent at this point, except for an insert song which Funimation stupidly removed.

+Gokuto Kai is not as accurate to the dialogue as people make it out to be. Also, even the Anime in Japanese slightly changes the dialogue from the manga as well. In the first place, who fucking cares what dialogue is used? The dialogue used that is significant to the plot is all the same. The English Z version was okay. No emotional impact though. The kai one was pretty great! The soundtrack to it made the scene so damn cool. But the Japanese dub is by far my favorite. The song that plays makes the moment so much better and emotionally impacting and I can't get enough of it!
