As a young teen who enjoys studying finance and business, this seems like such basic knowledge to me, but its crazy to think there are adults out there who just simply have not learned these concepts. Would for sure recommend this video to basically anyone wanting to learn about finance, regardless of age, etc. Really a great vid.

It's so suprising to me how the previous generation seemed to have no interest in money or finance whatsoever. They've been alive 40-50 years and not once did they worry about investing?

I'm still confused, should i get a high yield or normal savings account and once i get one of those do i put money in index funds? or do i only do index funds and no savings account. pls help
@RichardMurphy-m8d5 күн бұрын
Yeah, watching this i was sort of confused because this all seems obvious
@anewanewplayer63394 күн бұрын
@Khibanyan to put it simply, high yields is money you don't plan on touching but you want to have just in case. Normal savings you are planning on using and index funds are an investment. You don't want to just have index funds because what if you need some money quickly but your investments arent doing well? That's also why you don't want all your money in high yields because you can get fees. So basically, I would recommend a mix of the three for different things. Feel free to ask more if you need.

@@MotionBros. I live on the east coast of Australia, which is a popular tourist destinations, along with holiday and rental homes. The problem for the customers is that say they go down for the weekend, but garbage is collected on Wednesday. If they leave the bins out, people will know there is nobody home which makes them an easy target for robberies. If they don’t put them in, they don’t get collected. So my job is to take their garbage in and out each week, which I do on behalf of a holiday house company. I also take out the trash for a few elderly people who aren’t able to do it themselves.

one good way to keep savings is keeping your main account on nice round numbers and multiples of 5s once you've spent money. so if you have 78.24, you take 3.24 and throw that into your savings account and repeat until there is a boatload of money there. it tends to add up very well very goddamn fast and takes literal seconds to do in your banking app.

@ovencake523Күн бұрын
Hope Gohar goes more into loans and credit cards. fully amortizing payments and APR and other jargon that banks and credit card companies throw at you also credit card bills - the bank gives you the minimum payment as a bill in the mail, but you need to pay them the full amount to not have any interest
@Ok1n910 күн бұрын
In finland this is 9th grader stuff. At 0:56 rn and I can explain the diffirence. Debit is like a bank account of your money and savings. It will stop working if money runs out. Credit as the same sugests is a card that basically saves your expenses for later. Getting a credit card however requires you to be 18. Atleast thats what I learned
@shawyonsharifi33944 күн бұрын
In the us the younger population is really dumb when it comes to finances. (Part of the reason so many young Americans have so much debt thst they’re un able to pay). Crazy part is that’s it’s not even that hard to gain financial knowledge. I’m 15 and know more than 99% of all people my age (and honestly probably more then the vast majority of people under 25) and that’s because my dad educated from a super young age about money and investing. I remember I was just 8 years old and my dad took me to his construction site and explained to me the math and numbers behind real estate development. By age 10 I knew fully the economics behind being a landlord and real estate investing. By age 13 he taught me fully about stocks and investing in the market. Now at age 15 I have 10k invested. He saw the value in teaching me from a young age as he’s a professional full time investor himself. I think the main problem tbh is not just lack of education in schools, but that most people’s parents themselves lack financial and economic literacy and that’s what they pass on to their kids. It’s a generational thing. I have met numerous adults who are decades older than me who I’ve had to educate on very basic economic ideas and investment strategies.

A credit card isn’t really beneficial for me. The credit score benefits are barely a tenth of a percent on interest when taking out new credit. Plus, the cashback is sometimes lower than the credit card fees. Overall, you only benefit if you have really high expenses that allow you to earn more cashback and flight points. If you're young and don’t have significant expenses, it's better to focus on managing your budget and saving money, even if the interest isn’t great. In the beginning, developing the right financial habits is more important than maximizing benefits.

For reference on how bad credit card debt is, compound interest at 25% per month over 3 years starting with 100€/$ follows this formula f=p(1+x)^t where p is the principal, f is the final amount, x is the percentage acrewed, and t is the time interval. 3 years is 36 months, the percentage is .25 and the principal is 100 so 100(1.25)^36→100(~3,081.5) which mean ls the total would be 30,8150€/$. In practice people pay off debt overtime so it would never blow up like this but don't get into credit card debt or you will be absolutely cooked no cap. Btw over 1 year it's only 100(~14.6) or 1,460 but compound interest blows up fast especially on a monthly level
