Hey Colleen - OCD usually manifests as a way to control 'uncomfortable' or 'difficult' emotions, often resulting from trauma (ie, breakup, abuse, humiliation, huge changes and transitions). Allowing yourself to dwell in sadness and other uncomfortable emotions is a HUGE part of OCD therapy. While its absolutely important to find the right therapist for you, keep in mind that those feelings of 'sadness' that you described are bound to resurface with any therapist, and are actually a really important part of the healing process. It's counter-productive to try and 'fix' that feeling, and that mindset is probably reinforcing your OCD cycle.
@RegalMermaid4 жыл бұрын
Montana Sharp I was thinking the same thing. Tools are coping mechanisms and leaves you reliant on someone else guiding you but unpacking the source with a therapist is solving and empowers you to guide yourself. Everyone’s therapeutic journey inward is different though they’ve got to get there on their own. Going is half the battle so well done Colleen 💕🧠 But also ‘not sure what’s changed in the past week’???? 🔥🖤✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿🔥Realising and accepting the role we all play in upholding white supremacy is pretty traumatising if you’re just now showing up! Go within 🖤💕🖤
@Diimondc4 жыл бұрын
I agree with all of this. You need to feel the sadness to process it so you can heal. There's no way around it! There's nothing wrong with sadness, it's a necessary feeling 💖
@meredithsnails4 жыл бұрын
honestly colleen needs SO MUCH therapy and i wish she would just accept it and go and stay in it. i hope she doesn’t think that therapy helping her is going to hurt her comedy career or something. she just really needs to work through it and stay in therapy.
@mpk17314 жыл бұрын
Just want to co-sign this. I don't have OCD but struggle with other mental illness issues and the hardest thing for me to accept is that therapy is not about "fixing" yourself. You can't just push away bad feelings forever because they're going to manifest themselves in ways you're probably not going to like!
@hummingbird87074 жыл бұрын
Maybe her OCD is triggered by anxiety not depression? I feel like that therapist should have communicated to her that working through her emotions were the tools? Idk I am biased I had a therapist that helped me a lot and as I started to be happier and healthier she would try to invent problems in my life to work on. Rather than focus on my current situation and teaching me how to live without the depression because that’s a huge transition too.
@izucutiepie4 жыл бұрын
Also no Colleen, it wasn't boring when you were talking about Therapy at all!!! I think it's important to talk about it, and even more so to talk about that kind of therapy is good. Because a lot of influencers tell us that therapy is good and isn't something to be afraid of, BUT often don't go past that.... So thank you for going more into your experiences with different therapists

First, so glad you're getting back to therapy! I'm also very pro therapy. Second, I want to challenge the idea that nothing changed in the last week. In the last week you went through all of your Miranda Sings stuff/closet. Idk but this could have brought up a lot of different things which are triggering your OCD to flare up. You could be extra sad about not touring, struggling to accept compliments or feeling unworthy of them, feeling overwhelmed about being reminded that your fans overwhelmingly love and support you. You've alluded to a lot of emotion coming out with that process which can definitely trigger increased OCD symptoms. Last thing is I hope you find that right therapist! I know how hard that struggle is... But don't give up if the next one isn't right. And when you do your research next time maybe make a top three list 😉 Sending good vibes!

This is an excellent response! There has also been a lot going on politically (such as BLM), and I've noticed she's been very active in that cause. I wonder if that could be a contributing factor. Wishing her luck in her therapy journey!

I also just found someone who specializes in OCD. It's really important too because OCD therapy is really counterintuitive to what "normal/traditional" therapy entails. I also was on a waiting list and had to bother my new therapist for a long time before I seen her but she's great and it was worth it so just hang in there. Times are very odd and they might just be busy and distracted. Don't take it personally.

Do you mind explaining what the 1st part of your comment means? One of my relatives has OCD and he goes to therapy but he doesn't feel like it's working even though it's been half a year. I was wondering if we are missing something. Thanx.

@@rakhilbruk "Anxiety is a biologically based indicator of danger, an emotion that signals something is wrong and immediate attention is warranted to avert a problem or catastrophe. With OCD, the brain misfires danger signals, but reacts as if a true danger was imminent. Common misconceptions about overcoming OCD include the following areas of focus: Over-attention to the content of the thoughts, and under-attention to the process of anxiety Seeking reassurance that things will be okay, including fact checking and avoidance of feared stimuli Dismissing the importance of completing daily homework assignments" "That’s why traditional talk-therapy approaches to OCD provide such limited help. Rachel Bruk As a Psychologist, and if I may, I would like to comment on this. Every process has distant timings. Some patients take longer than others, BUT if your relative truly gives their 100% during and after therapy and after half a year believes he/she doesn’t have any results what so ever, it may be that the therapists techniques are not the most adequate for your relative and may need to voice this out to the therapist or find another with a different method.
@rikkisuzannemartinez33734 жыл бұрын
@@rakhilbruk I am a physician and have a fair amount of personal and professional experience with mental health disorders. This is just my two cents. The type of treatment most effective for OCD is called cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This is an action and problem focused type of therapy as opposed to the more traditional talk therapy which aims to find a subconscious reason behind the disorder. CBT is evidence based and has been proven to be more effective than medications in some psychiatric disorders. I would look for a psychologist who is trained in CBT for OCD. Here is a good overview article from Wikipedia. The information is accurate. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_behavioral_therapy

Good luck with your therapy journey! It took me 3 therapists before I found the right one. And since then I also did a partial program after being in inpatient so I've had technically 5 therapists. It's hard, but I'm sure you'll find the right person. It's also really cool how in touch with my mental health and all the terms that go along with it I am from my years of therapy experience. There's so much I still need to figure out but I feel like I'm an expert on myself!

I start therapy tomorrow for the first time!! I’ve been on my own in my flat for the whole of lockdown. I moved to a new city just before lockdown so I don’t know anyone within 200 miles - it really messes with your mental health.

Colleen I totally understand! I 100% agree that I used to think that I would be considered mental if I went, but it’s so so good for you! It is going to benefit you so much and I’m so excited you are going to grow in your mental strength!

Also, Colleen, you’re probably triggered by anxiety. The.world is pretty messy right now, and honestly, it’s NOT NORMAL TO FEEL NORMAL. IT’S OK! I’m very happy you’re able to seek counseling. I have anxiety and it’s a BOOGER! I decided I wanted to try working on it on my own with a promise to my MD that I would contact her if I felt my way wasn’t working. I encourage anyone to do medication if they need it. 100%. I just wanted to see if I could try some coping mechanisms I’ve learned. I started with walking, but then it got hot out, so I was Blessed enough to be able to buy an elliptical machine for my house. Then I started putting yoga and pranayama before cardio, and eventually added weights. That and I started eating a lot cleaner and cut out fried and flour based foods. It’s not 100%, but as God as my witness, it has all but eliminated anxiety and panic attacks. I also have OCD and chew my fingers. Put quite frankly, working out just makes me too tired to spaz. Lol plus the added benefit of the better oxygen intake, more natural endorphins and even more melatonin. Girl, I NEEDED that so bad! I’ve suffered a lifetime of insomnia and nothing has helped like working out does. I don’t enjoy doing it all, but the after effects are priceless. If anyone reading this can’t come by workout equipment, there are endless workout videos on KZbin for free. Have you tried belly dancing? 😉 Stay well y’all. GREAT BUG HUGS!! 🤗💕💐

Hi Colleen, Thank you for talking about dermatillomania and sharing your experience. I developed it last year but on my lips. I had no idea what dermatillomania was until you brought it up. I feel less alone and less like I am a freak because I thought I was the only one dealing with this. Nothing has helped my dermatillomania yet but I'm hopeful for the future.
