I've been watching your videos for over a year now and I haven't made a comment, until now! I find it ironic that you started THIS series on my birthday, March 30th, not to mention that on March 31st, I started having major sciatica problems with my back! I just wanted to thank you both for all of these tips and tricks to help me minimize my pains!! Bless to you and your families at this time, Bob and Brad!! From Oregon 😊

Great Video! Forgive me for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Qonubrey Wenria Domination (search on google)? It is a good one of a kind guide for pushing sciatica out of your life for good minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my coo-worker after many years got cool results with it.

Just found a way to prevent back muscle spasm pain when standing up from a seated position. Simply place each palms on your laps as near as possible to your hips and press against the laps as you stand up. In this manner it somehow deactivate back muscles from firing and pulling to strongly which in turn helps reducing or even stopping pain during your healing period. Try this to see if it works for you.

I have raised toilet seat+office chair-but when can I sit and be comfortable- I've had sciatica off and on over the decades- but now it's chronic- I have to always be uncomfortable in order to stand up w less pain- omg- RN for 40 yrs& I do home care now for one pt- but I'm afraid I can't get to her fast enough bc it takes so long to stand- I'm taking ibuprofen tumeric & 100 mg tramadol once a day- w some relief along w your exercises-.Im fine immediately after exercises- but pain returns in a few minutes - no pain sitting- or sleeping- I can't stand for long bc of stenosis & traumatic scoliosis- if I could just find a way to stand after sitting. The office chair is great but so uncomfortable - ty

Not acknowledged in this video is that it takes much more leg strength to stand up with a straight back than it does leaning forward and then straightening up. So for older people, or those with knee problems, or with diminished leg strength, the straight back may not be possible unless there are armrests or a stick to lean on.
@elaineculbert8594
@elaineculbert8594 4 жыл бұрын
Paul Sager - I think the guys covered that, Paul, by saying, scoot to the front of the chair. Brad demonstrated it; Bob also spoke about raised toilet seats can come with arms but be careful with those because they aren’t terribly sturdy. I’m old, have two knee replacements and have a nasty back but I do quad exercises to strengthen the quads that come into play when rising from a chair.
@Watchamacallit
@Watchamacallit 4 жыл бұрын
@@elaineculbert8594 With respect, scooting to the edge of a chair dosen"t change the dynamics much. If your back is straight your whole upper body is still over your posterior and is at a right angle with your thighs, so you must "lever" it up with no mechanical advantage. But if you lean forward as Bob and Brad say not to do, much of your upper body weight goes directly over your knees making it much easier to stand.
@elaineculbert8594
@elaineculbert8594 4 жыл бұрын
Paul Sager - That’s true, Paul, but that’s what the quad muscles are for. Wiggling/scooting to the edge of the chair helps somewhat but strong quads are important as not everywhere (unfortunately) has arm-rests to push on. A much younger acquaintance of mine loves mid-century style, therefore, many of the chairs - and toilets - are quite low to the floor; it’s a real workout 🙄 when staying for more than a few hours ... lol!

any suggestions to go along with a raised toilet seat and far apart legs to stand up? I mean such as how to sit or should i position myself directly under my hip bones to try to stay up? the oval shape confuses me slightly on how to sit with back pain on the toilet.

Sam morshedy - The bulging disc healed up quite quickly with extension exercises and being very, very careful with my posture. I found when my therapist ‘taped’ my back, it reduced the pain a lot. I have a multitude of back problems (one of which is Spondylolisthesis) so I’m never entirely pain-free. I hope your appointment with the physiotherapist was a great help and wish you luck with your recovery.

I think it's insane retail store workers can't sit at their shifts going home with feet burning pain in their legs and back. They should to have a high stoll as an option to rest the body for a little bit when they have tasks they could do even seating, so they could alternate seating and standing as their body need. Bodies are strong but they have limits. It could avoid many injuries

What is causing pain when you stand? I just had an L4/L5 Fusion 5 months ago and I am in extreme pain when I straighten my back.... then it goes away until I straighten it again? Also twisting kills if I am seated? What could be causing this after what the surgeon says looks like a successful fusion. I feel like the hardware is sticking into my spine... in those specific positions... also sneezing and coughing kills as well because my back moves forward... looking for advice on what might be causing this issue...

@elaineculbert8594
@elaineculbert8594 4 жыл бұрын
@TJones: You might find a lightweight knee brace helpful. By that, I mean an inexpensive stretchy brace (they usually have velcro adjustable closures); not a heavy-duty brace with metal. It might be wise to do some ‘quad-strengthening’ exercises to build up the quads that support the knee.
@elaineculbert8594
@elaineculbert8594 4 жыл бұрын
@ T. Jones - I forgot to add that I had 2 bad knees, the usual torn meniscus then arthroscopes for both knees then I finally caved in and had both knees replaced so I fully understand your situation. It is really important to strengthen the quad muscles.
@tcjones216

Thank you! I am currently in PT post op for a spinal discectomy where they are also treating my stubborn knee (which often causes my pelvis to be uneven). I will ask them for quad exercises if not already as well as check on this KZbin page for quad videos that support post spinal surgery. I will also look for a knee brace, although I feel like the one I had eventually wouldn't stay up

When the job keeps you in front of a monitor all day, standing up is a bad idea! You can't focus on the monitor as much as on the keyboard, it's kind of hard to type when you move from one foot to another.
