I have thought about it... but I would need to learn about how to mod (I know it is in C#, which is easy enough, but they have special APIs). Also need to work for all the other road types that you can get in the workshop (like Vanilla+ and Big Streets), and paths, and somehow handle curves (pipes do not curve). Just targeting the asset type of network would not work well due to quays, fences, and metro. Certainly something on my todo list, but a ways out.

Phil, that whole area is one, gigantic, massive cul-de-sac! Everything in that newer area by the casino and Mill Hills and everything. Minus the transit, it only connects via that one road that goes into the roundabout! More connectivity is needed to that area, desperately. If it were just residential, it wouldn't matter as much, but it's meant to be a tourist area.
@jase_allen

At the very least, the roundabout needs to be replaced by a proper interchange to keep the traffic flowing.

A bridge or tunnel over the Bay might help, or better transit from the ferry. We could also use an infill metro station in the new area as well, it may reduce all the queuing for buses.
@AndreCallot
@AndreCallot 2 жыл бұрын
@@paulphilley4246 A bridge over the bay would disrupt the Eggsperience and the quaint little beach district next to the ferry terminal. I think the only option at this point is to have a highway go behind the mountain to the east of the bay and connect up to the interstate on the northern portion of the map. That way tourists who drive don't need to drive all the way through the entire city to get to the beach. It may also be a good idea in that it opens up development space to the east of the main city for the Airport DLC at the end of the month. A large international airport would almost certainly have its own highway interchange. Also, a highway through the mountains could be very pretty, like the Blue Ridge Parkway in western North Carolina.
@jase_allen
@jase_allen 2 жыл бұрын
@@AndreCallot Not to mention the costs involved. CPP likes to tackle issues from a planner's perspective, and a project like that would probably never be greenlit in real life without substantial bribery unless there were no cheaper options available.
@samuelwojciak8037
@samuelwojciak8037 2 жыл бұрын
@@AndreCallot Only thing this roundabout traffic is pretty much local, opening an overpass over it would make a lot of difference, if not bay overpass then an interchange is needed there. The highway project you're talking about is probably coming with the Airport DLC anyway but for now something to route the tourism traffic to the downtown without interrupting the former cheese district's local traffic.

Hello from Germany, I would add a hint if it isn't allready known. At about min 12:50 you zone high commercial density next to living district. In my experience it will create noise pollution. I solve this with 4 square space between houses and high commercial and fill this space with low commercial density. Hopefully this will help 🙏

A couple points you might want to cover that aren't in the tooltips iirc: IT cluster buildings produce goods for commercial that don't require any transportation. Good for traffic. Organic and Local Produce commercial can sell farm goods (from farm specialized zoned industry only afaik). I think you covered this in VB, but it was a long time ago.

You're right, priority on the new collector will help traffic. Maybe bypass the toll? Existing transit like the subway line will help, and remember, there's a BLIMP to the EggSperience and the University, and the gondola/cable car could go along the beach to the Casino. They would be unique tourist uses for transit.

57:03 The amount of traffic funneled through this single road has pretty much turned it into an arterial. If that is going to continue to be the only road to provide access to that area, then you should replace the roundabout with a proper interchange to keep traffic flowing.
@jimwanshue2376

City Planner, I'm surprised at you! The reason traffic is so heavy leading out to the Monument Circle peninsula is becuase you've created the one thing you hate (other than cliffs): a neighborhood that is one gigantic cul-de-sac! The road in is the same road out. For shame! 😔😆 Also, maybe it's a vanilla/console quirk, but when I've added a biofuel bus depot to a city which already had diesel buses, it seems like all buses are automatically converted to biofuel. Anyone else have that experience? Is that intentional in the game, or a glitch?
@CityPlannerPlays

@@CityPlannerPlays biofuel is usually a straight replacement for diesel, because diesel engines in theory can run on anything combustible (modern injection systems can be a bit sensitive about it tho), quite popular in the UK to get an old school diesel and run it on vegetable oil because tight-arse, to the point that some supermarkets are starting to restrict how much of the cheapest veg oils each customer can buy at once...

Something to keep in mind at the 10:00 mark where you add a second district for your organic and local produce, is you could just make one district with different specialisations, one for each zone type. e.g District X could have self sufficient residential, mixed with organic produce commercial, mixed with farming zoned industry and IT office specialisation. I think it something a lot of people overlook thinking you need separate districts for each type. You can have multiple specialisations, just not of the same type i.e. no mixture of tourist and leisure is allowed because they are both commercial. Ok big Edit: I see at 32:15 you did this anyway, sorry. Lesson: finish watching the whole video before commenting. 😊

On thing to note on recycling centers and that recycle plastics policy. Recycling centers like other waste buildings only send out trucks when there is enough space for their full load. If one truck carries say 8000 units, then 24000 unit processing capacity isn't enough to allow all trucks to be on the road at the same time. even a fairly modest 20% boost, which is 4800 per week per recycling center, it helps on the truck count and allows on average more trucks per week to collect your garbage. Other thing to note is that these trucks collect from the onset. So they don't drive empty to a place where there is lot of garbage and start collecting, but start from the moment they spawn on the road. Hence a lot of people have garbage issues on deep, complicated road networks and this is why your arterial roads shouldn't have any zoning on them, or very little. More houses these garbage trucks pass, fuller they will be before reaching the problem area.

Hey CPP, always enjoy your content and I wanted to say your tutorial series has been super helpful! If I could make a recommendation, I think it would be more interesting for future expansions to your city if you would leave gaps in between zoning buildings. It seems like zoning is maxed out and every adjacent building is butted up against the next. While this is not uncommon in a lot of high density areas, it does make for a less appealing aesthetic. Perhaps you could leave a space in between for more landscaping and allow the zone buildings room to breathe and have some of their own real estate to work with. I grew up in Michigan and I’m used to seeing grass and trees in all commercial/office and residential zoning areas, as well as on road medians, so I find vast expanses of concrete to be ugly 😂

You can get the organic and local produce parking lots with a 2x2, 2x3, or 2x4 plot. It does take some time but does look great when put into busy areas such as in front of zoo, amusement parks, or other busy points of interest. And the Sims use the heck out of them. They also satisfy commercial demand.

@AaronBayette
@AaronBayette Жыл бұрын
Another strategy for creating parking lots is you could zone patterned 2x4s of Light Commercial and then again of 2x4 Dense Commercial. The Organic and Local Produce Policy doesn't have building assets for High Density Commercial, so this means you won't accidently zone a 4x4, the zones won't overlap. After that it's just being patient until you get the right asset and making it Historical.

Green Cities is probably my favorite major DLC, maybe beaten by Snowfall. As much as I like going green though, I miss three things from SimCity 2013: Megatowers, Drones, and the Academy (Sewage Sanitizers, pollution scrubbers, and Maglevs). Edit: I forgot you could recycle into useable goods. Also, how dare you make green districts without bike lanes!

If the traffic issues are occuring because the Meadow district, maybe if you create another leisure and tourism diestricts in another part of the city could relieve the traffic in that area. It seens that the entire city is going the only "fun" district.

One thing I find a bit odd about the self-sufficient homes is they universally have flat roofs. That isn't necessarily the case IRL. Also, none of them have water tanks on the roof for gray water. :)

Double check your roundabout. I think you may of added lights to the new 4 lane road and that’s how the traffic was cause.

If the self sustainables didn’t tank your tax revenue so bad, I would use a lot more districts like that. They are great for later, but they will kill you taxes building them early. Learned the hard way :)

Maybe try fitting in a bypass/flyover/exit ramp style connection so people making the left turn into your tourist district don't have to keep stopping to cut across the road? Traffic will still be heavy but least it won't be as stop/start.

Hiya mate, until the last second before the city tour I was hoping you'll figure out "The Bay Overpass" must come into existence. There is a lot of traffic that really doesn't need to go through the local roundabout there which in turn is clogging all the local traffic.

Watching again in 2024, not liking cities skylines 2 just yet and realized I never once played with my campus, green cities, financial, and airport DLC packs. I’m gonna return to that game and watch your old stuff while I do so and hope that cities skylines 2 becomes better for me and my PC down the road.

i know it isn't the height of realism but how about adding a huge bridge going across the bay to cut some of the traffic in the new area? i think it would help making some of the trips shorter.

As far as I can figure out the health system in Cities: Skylines doesn't really do much, because you can prevent the things it fixes - keep the different types of pollution down and they don't get sick. Healthcare seems to just improve happiness similar to how parks work. Be nice if it did do something, healthcare increasing average lifespan and the buildings such as the pool reduce how often they need to visit a doctor, or, something to that effect.

34:45 I hear him say this a LOT but I don't them as being all that steep! I have seen roads WAY steeper than that! It's weird seeing what some people will call steep! It's also possible that they are steeper than they look with the camera angle you get when playing the game!

You can reduce the chance of bunching by adding the buses to the line more gradually if you have the patience.

Using your series to learn Skylines. But. I rise a bike year round. Bike lanes on a collector means a painted line no one will use. The Nerherlands get it right. American planning have it all wrong. Think separate parallel networks. Physical barriers are critical. This is the same critique I have with every video from all creators. It is a massive blind spot. The numbers of times I've almost been hit by distracted drivers is too many. Can't wait till self driving cars takes the driver out of the loop. Half of the city I livein is pre car culture. Sidewalks everywhere. Across the river, post WWII. Not a sidewalk in sight. No go for any biking. Including kids. Too dangerous.
