My first drive on the Corris Railway, and I absolutely loved it! Yes I made lots of errors. Yes I also pronounced Maespoeth horribly, but I had such a great time!

Thanks mate! I installed them successfully in the usual way - the 123 that I already have does work, but the rest crash the game immediately once loading is complete - I've tried it on 32 and 64bit versions, changed graphics settings, compatibility modes etc. Haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling yet, if that's worth a try? Care for a few tips? When you're up to speed ease back the reverser, you'll use less steam, once you're moving press C to shut the cylinder cocks. Also that engine has it's own steam brake to the left of the large brake. Make sure it's off when you start. I think that's why you stalled leaving the shed.

I haven't actually tried running a standard-gauge train on narrow-gauge track, but I've tried it the other way round. The train floats in between the rails, and you can get an electric current even though the pantograph doesn't touch the catenary. The magic of It Just Works. I've seen this route in the Steam store, but never touched it, and I think I might get it later after seeing it. If you enjoy smaller steam operations, you'll probably enjoy the Maerdy branch, and maybe Clear Creek.

I have a some route recommendations for you: Rivera Line in the 50s. I had so much fun with this route during quarantine. It is reasonably priced, comes with a lot of engines and rolling stock, and the route is huge! Isle of Wright: If you like this one, you will like the steam railway part of this route. Clear Creak Narrow Gauge Railroad. Only if you want a big challenge. In traditional American Narrow Gauge Style, it is an absolutely beautiful route through the rocky mountains. It's expensive, but worth it. (Real challenge to go from Georgetown to Silver Plume)

Ah, the Corris Railway. If I recall, that is the railway that the Tallylyn locomotives now known as Sir Haydn and Edward Thomas originated from. When it closed down, they were sold to the Tallylyn. Ironically, the Corris Railway has since re-opened as a heritage railway and has been building new locomotives to the same design as Sir Hayden and Kerr Stuart. And this is all the origin of the tales of Sir Handle and Peter Sam, naturally. (EDIT: Name corrections)

Woah, one of the first TS addons I ever bought. Amazing route. Also the other DLC with (diesel and battery) locos and scenarios for this route is really worth getting. Also, I think you've been running with cylinder cocks open all the time, pardon me if I'm wrong. You can close them by pressing "C"
@highbrookendmodelrailway
@highbrookendmodelrailway 3 жыл бұрын
I think so too, there isn't normally that much steam exhausting out from the cylinders. It's normally jetted up the chimney to draw the fire, which is why a small loss of pressure may happen when keeping them open. Not opening them at the correct time can cause serious damage. Note: Cylinder drain cocks are used to clear the condensate steam from the cylinders to prevent lock ups, or hydraulic lock. They should be opened just before coming to a stop, and closed 5-10 seconds after moving off again.
@RHaenJarr
@RHaenJarr 3 жыл бұрын
Another note: the damage system is not simulated in absolute majority of locos (Victory Works locos have it simulated, for example), but keeping the cocks open when not needed wastes steam in every loco.

Sam, the points you had to operate yourself are manual oints under yard control. The points that set the route for you are under the control of a signal box.

I think it would be fun to maybe see you make an OO9 scale layout, Sam. Of course, you would have to figure out where it would go, but I’m sure that you could do it. If you want a good loco, I would recommend the Bachmann Rheneas. It is part of the Bachmann Thomas range, but unlike most of the other Bachmann Thomas models, Rheneas has a die-cast metal smokebox and boiler (I’m not joking), quite fine details like a separately fitted handrail, and proper metal bearings on the axels (again, I’m not kidding). It is quite expensive for those reasons, so it might not be worth it, but you might think that it’s a good model. Sorry that this comment is so long.

4:18 I thinks that is suppose to be an Escape door. For instance, if an engine's stuck between an a narrow Bridge or a mountain side that is tight for the crew to get out from the cab, that escape door is another way to leave out of the engine if an Emergency.

Nice one Sam. I've had a footplate ride on the real life Corris No7. My band headlined the Corrisfest rock festival in the town back in 2010. We played on the Saturday eve, and I ended up chatting to a couple of guys who volunteered on the Corris. One of them invited me to meet him at the station 9am on the Sunday morning, and I got a footplate ride down the line and back on the first run of the day. Great experience. Keep up the good work Jon PS have you been effected by the this whole Rails of Sheffield Vs Hornby dispute thing?
