I have been (over)thinking about why I enjoy watching some games on your channel more than others. Games like ONI/Rimworld have stories/challenge and noteworthy characters like Lunk or Zombiepops (RIP). Also the element of chaos adds entertainment value, like dupes dropping ice into magma, Randy gifting a center drop of infinity minus one centipedes, or even the livestock jumping around in Stacklands. The factory games are more controlled, with the main challenge of how fast can things be done (usually expanding on a exponential level). Also enemies in factory games don't seem to scale as well, so they are only a threat in the early game. The important thing is if you enjoy a game, play it! Enjoy your trip!
@mrShift_00443 ай бұрын
Maybe satisfactory update would not add to the enemies, but i belive Factorio is getting A MASSIVE expansion, lots of new rules and mechanics and could be really intertaining even for "non factory" channel members

Hey Francis. Take the time you need - while some of us might be shaking like crack addicts by the time the next content is posted, we'll survive in the knowledge that a rest will ensure your longevity and we'll get more content in the long run. Plus, can't wait for the post holiday update! As for content, personally I'll watch pretty much anything you put out. I realised during the "Senua's saunter" run, I reckon you could narrate paint drying and make it entertaining! I do think the best content is either where you break out the spreadsheets and min/max a game into dust or when you set yourself a difficult set of challenges.

Those chocolates seem fairly simple, for the chocolate you can use Callebaut (which is the highest possible quality chocolate you can get for that price) and the nougat is fairly low quality, just using orange & mandarin oil rather than real ingredients If i can get my hands on them in Belgium I'll order some and ask my brother-in-law to recreate the recipe since he's a chocolatier

Honest comment, meant as constructive: I enjoy your playthroughs better when there's some pressure put on you. ONI puts pressure on because of achievement milestones, and because of resource depletion/limitations. Rimworld puts pressure on because of raids. Games where you have to adapt to the world, the world is putting pressure on you. Many (not all) factory games put relatively little pressure on you. In particular, the loop of "build a very basic research engine -> research everything in a tier in fast forward -> build a minimal factory for the next research engine -> research everything in that tier fast forward -> rinse and repeat" as a style is very much a turnoff to me personally (though it may well be optimal). I can't tell you exactly why - I think it's because it feels like a failure to engage with the core mechanic of the game, which is building a factory at different tech levels and the research is kind of a sideline to the factory building and not the main dish? It's probably a flaw of games in the genre when they let you turn it into a research game more than a factory game. I really wanted to enjoy your latest DSP series because I was thinking about doing another playthrough and wanted some ideas, but when it just turned into "research the entire blue tier" in the first couple videos it just turned me away. I'm wondering if a factory game playthrough where you get a bit out of your comfort zone and are forced to improvise would be more compelling for your audience.
@mrShift_00443 ай бұрын
actually , you do have a point, i was saddened at the shortness of Satisfactory playtrough because it was essentially a speedrun, but why not build an analog to a sour gas boiler and make something crazy like "the most fixit points possible" run, which would require multiple different factories doing different things with different setup on each one, combining into a massive central base, instead of just long line of machines finishing in 0.5 of final product because "in 18 hours that would be enough"

I have a request, would you be interested in doing another Tribal Wizards run? I feel that the changes implemented since your first run would provide a much greater challenge, particularly in relation to caravanning, I know that you can "cheese" the pen requirements by placing down a caravan spot, and all caravan animals are "hitched" to it, but unsure of how many animals could be tethered in such a way, and whether they could all feed themselves. A Subnautica Below Zero run would also be interesting, although it takes place on a smaller ocean map, it has a very large land area, and land bases are much more viable than in the first game. It has an interesting story, with a lot of additional lore about the aliens who built the structures in the first game. Just a couple of suggestions FJ, one heavy run - Tribal Wizards, and a light run - Subnautica Below Zero. Enjoy your break. :)

ONI and RimWorld were what had originally convinced me to subscribe to Francis John's channel, but I ended up sticking around for all of the games (including the oddballs like Inscryption, Raft, Noita, Cosmoteer, Dream Engines Nomad Cities, Stacklands, Senua's Sacrifice, Songs of Syx, and Kenshi) that he had been showcasing on the channel besides ONI and RimWorld (both of which I've already grown tired of). Because of him, I've found some games that really interested me, one of which I had decided to show to my dad (which was X4: Foundations), who's been a fan of grand strategy games like Sid Meier's Civilization and Master of Orion since the 1990s, plus had also played Wing Commander back then.

Sorry to hear DSP isn't a great performer for you. I'm a patron and voted for DSP, I've been enjoying it a lot and started playing the game myself. I think Factorio is a bit less interesting to watch because, since the map is effectively infinite space, you end up just making one design that works then replicating it over and over until your computer cries out in pain. DSP is a little better because you can set goals for different planets and come up with at least a bit of a big building project. It is just different enough I suppose. I tune in for every DSP and ONI video. I enjoy other games, but they are hit or miss. Subnautica was a lot of fun to watch and Stacklands introduced me to a new game, but I didn't care for Inscryption at all. Hopefully you're able to find a good balance that doesn't entirely give up on the builder games.

I think what appeals to me most on this channel is your strategizing and optimizing, finding ways to break games and driving it to ridiculous levels, and most importantly the way you explain your thought process of how you tackle problems so that we as viewers can see the bigger picture. I prefer that much more over action and stuff happening on the screen, thus I enjoy e.g. your Satisfactory and Dyson Sphere Project series more than e.g. your Raft and Subnautica series. I totally disagree with you saying that you "can't really make good videos out of" those factory games, because for me you're striking the best balance of pace, details, action and actually making sense of what is happening on a bigger scale.
