iPads have literally sold more units than the entire Mac line every year since it’s been released. To say that it’s “doing bad for Apple” and that its decline is due to a lack of macOS is just not true… iPadOS should be improved but the answer isn’t, and should never be macOS. macOS isn’t a tablet focused operating system, and as soon as you make it one, it’s no longer macOS.

Add an option in settings for macOS that only can work when the iPad is on keyboard, lock it to the 13” 1tb pro model. Touchscreen doesn’t work in this mode besides some zoom/scrolling gestures, similar to sidecar. I think the pencil can currently work as a mouse in sidecar but unsure

Sam, When you said it was over kill with the bend test by doing 4 ipads and that you should have only done 2 iPads. Thats exactly what I felt watching the video. I liked that you did it and glad you did. I think it would have made as much if not a biggest impact by doing the bend test on the new M4 and last years. When I watched your bend test for the iPads and you kept going on and on doing 4 iPads I was saying thats enough Sam, stop destroying more iPads, I get the point….lol. I think the massive issue @SamKohl is if you’d have just done 2, say one of each, no one would’ve really complained…. But the over doing it isn’t a great look. Because I had my iPad mini-the first Mini for my bachelor degree and I sold it back in 2015. And now I bought the 11 inch Pro and it’s so awesome. So, with the bend stuff, I don't like it when Jerry Rig Everything does it too. I think that if you want to call something a durability test, you should probably be doing things that people would actually do to potentially break one. Like showing that you can intentionally break something by trying to break it, seems kinda pointless. Where doing something like, putting it on a couch and sitting on it, or put it in a backpack step on it or drop it. Someone who takes a knife to a screen and then goes, look its scratched now, it feels dumb.

At a minimum for Ipad OS, just redesign the app icons on the homepage to be larger and take up a bit more room. It looks sooo dated with these little tiny app icons on such a large screen. Same with IOS. Just please have a proper file manager or something. Options are good Apple. People like options and to have the ability to choose/modify. Not holding my breath for MacOS or a MacOS lite.

I just have to say, some people think it’s pointless to do drop tests and “bend tests” on new products coming out, but to be honest, someone has to do it. When you get a new product that is so thin, the consumer is going to wonder how durable it is. If you are a user that doesn’t use a case, I think it’s valid to see how durable your product is. There are times that you may put your iPad in a totally packed backpack and with something that thin, I would worry that it would put too much stress on my iPad. Now, seeing the stress it can withstand, I see I would be fine with pretty much any normal circumstances with the new iPad. Sure, if you try to bend it it will bend. But it’s nice to see how much stress it can take.

My feel on the iPad durability test is it’s good to know iPads are durable by trying to bend them somewhat but to bend to break I think is overkill as no one in the real world is going to do that practically, so it doesn’t add any value

I applaud you Sam for making that bend durability test. I really enjoyed it and did learn cool things about the iPad new n old. I think it was great you used both models new and old. Just like JerryRig proved the little iphone 15 pro held up great while the bigger 15 pro max was weaker and cracked during his bend test. So I think it was smart using all 4 pads. Great video 📹 👍 👏

Their plan (I think) is to just end up with two versions: Apple Pencil and Apple Pencil Pro, and both will work with all the iPads (by next year, hopefully, but likely not, but hoping nonetheless), then it will be like if you want pro features, get the Pro model else get the regular one.

I saw the new pro and the display is great, but no real difference from my m1 mini-led. Yes, in you can create a situation like subtitles where it is marginally better, but I do not notice that in day to day use. The weight difference is very noticeable.

My 2020 iPad Pro cracked across the screen due to stress from what I can only assume came from being in my backpack. It was never dropped or purposely bent. It was a major concern of mine the entire time I’ve had my current M1 iPad Pro. The first thing I thought about when I saw the thickness of the M4 iPad Pro was it breaking just from being in my backpack. Sam’s video convinced me it will be fine. I appreciate the fact that you blew $4000 for my peace of mind.

I have an iPad Pro and a MacBook Air, I love the way both operating systems works independently. I’m wondering what if Apple bought MacOS Catalyst apps for iPadOS like they for iOS Catalyst apps for macOS, that would a better alternative rather than bringing MacOS to iPad or iPadOS having dual boot mode. macOS Catalyst apps on iPadOS would require an iPad with M Series chip and keyboard while developers can add Apple Pencil support iPad version of macOS Catalyst apps. I hope Apple brings MacOS apps to iPadOS as Catalyst apps, that way Apple can keep both iPadOS and macOS separate as well as makes pro users happy

iPadOS lacks the ability to perform basic file operations, including mounting disk image files (.DMG), opening ISO files, and extracting archived files (.RAR). In general, even when using the Files app, tasks that are easily accomplished on a typical computer are not possible with iPadOS.

The people whining about breaking iPads have the wrong perspective. That’s no different than literally any other video out there where expenses are required to produce some content. It just happens that Sam’s video was literally about breaking an iPad to provide content to show people how fragile they are so they actually can see it and determine if it will suit their needs or not. It’s an expense that will be recovered from the revenue from the video. It’s not like he bought iPads just to break them for no reason. He obviously wouldn’t do it if that were the case. Sam you seriously shouldn’t take that personally. At all. If people are frustrated that they can’t afford an iPad and are taking it out on you, that’s not your fault. I honestly find those videos super interesting. If I had a lifestyle where I was rough on things I would honestly want to know how fragile this thing really was before I bought it. This is my own opinion, but I personally do not want the iPad to become Mac-like. I’m an illustrator and someone who has to jot notes on literally everything because if I don’t I’ll immediately forget it until a random 2 am 6 months from now. The things it focuses on, such a being a top tier notepad/sketchbook would likely be dampened if they went more Mac-esque. What I do want them to do is lean into and update things like Notes to be more akin to the traditional counterparts, such as getting rid of infinite scroll in favor of page sizes (this is also incredible if you need to print notes out), improve Books to perhaps work with Kindle Libraries and your public library to become a central location for your literature, etc. I have concerns about the new pencil, like how does barrel roll work with artists constantly needing to adjust and twist their hands just by naturally drawing? Again, my own thoughts and opinions here

You got the usecases for the iPads so wrong. Maybe cause you’re from an older generation that mostly uses macs/ pcs but the iPad is great. I use it for video/ photo editing, canva, CapCut, Final Cut, Logic Pro, garage band, pro create/ dreams, Goodnotes, apple notes/ Freeform, shapr3d, z brush, photoshop, watching yt and Disney, Netflix etc. playing games, zoom and teams meetings, bereal, snap, WhatsApp, iMessage. And all of that a lot. So iPads are way superior to macs
