In Korea, especially in the school years, students don't really want to put certain boundaries between friends. Culturally, they tend to share lots of things together. For example, they share their sports uniform when someone in their class didn't bring it even though the person is not your really close friend, they think it's a natural thing to share snacks altogether when someone brought food, and girlfriends in Korea braids each other's hair (even though they are not really a close friend). So, I think the girl's action on the video who touches this youtuber's hair is from that kind of culture. This means that they don't treat her only with just curiosity but more with intimacy.

First of all, you're so beautiful!! I'm a black English teacher living in korea and I actually just got back from getting box braids myself which is how I found your video. I just want to say I hope you can try not let any negativity get to you, even though it's hard. Korea is of course still a very closed country and Koreans in general don't always learn how to tactfully or respectfully engage with people of other ethnicities. You and I both as black women in korea have a unique opportunity to help them with this, I'm sure just by having you in their school and being their friend you're helping your peers to get better at this. Don't let anyone treat you badly even for the sake of keeping the peace, if you feel bad speak up and say something. They can only learn by experience and understanding. I hope you keep those kind girls who are accepting of you very close to your heart and grow together with them. As for tips I think most other comments here have said everything that I could. If wrapping them up at night is a hassle you can also buy a satin pillowcase (coupang has them!) and this will help a lot with keeping down the frizz. Don't worry too much about what to do or not do, it's your first time, just enjoy your gorgeous new hairstyle! Look up some cute styles on KZbin or tiktok and just have fun! The braids look fire 💁🏽♀️🔥 Wearing a bonnet to sleep is a good idea, I suggest braiding the individual box braids into one big LOOSE braid/plait and then tucking that into your bonnet. The big braid will prevent pulling/tugging of individual braids if you toss & turn in your sleep by keeping them in place (idk if that makes sense) and the braid being loose will reduce strain on your scalp.

You look so beautiful. Tips; If you do a lot of activities outdoors, you can wash your braids weekly just to avoid build up. When you undo them, there's going to be shedding(of your real hair), your hair sheds on a daily basis, but since it's been trapped for a while it's going to look like a lot, so don't let that alarm you. Be gentle when undoing them, just to avoid unnecessary breakage, you can add some oil to make it easier.

If you want a "soft" set (like to just try curls out for a day) use warm (room temp) water, a spritz of hair spray, wrap on rods and let it air dry (good to do early Sunday and then it will be fresh for Monday). And contrary to popular belief you CAN and definitely SHOULD wash your hair at least once or twice (it will smell nicer overall LOL!). Cantu makes a braid friendly spray(Refresh Dry Co-wash with Apple Cider Vinegar and Tea Tree Oil, you use it like hair spray. There is also: Shea Moisture Jojoba Oil & Ucuuba Butter No-Rinse Foam Cleanser, or AMIKA Perk Up Dry Shampoo. Any one or combo of two will keep your braids refreshed. Just a suggestion, you should blur the license plates so you can't get into any legal trouble. It also recommended to change your hairstyle often to prevent hair lose at the hairline and knotting. I just treat my braids like my own hair, style it in ponytails or buns when I'm ready, oil my scalp and some people even wash their hair with the braids in. When you are going to bed, wrap it up or put it in a bonnet. Same for when you are showering. When you are taking them out, estimate your own hair lenght then cut an inch or two below that.

The braids look great on you!! Some tips I have: Mist your hair with water/leave in conditioner and apply a small amount of oil to your hair every 2-3 days before going to sleep. Tie down your hair with a satin or silk scarf before sleeping. If you get bored and want to switch things up there are plenty of box braid hairstyle tutorials online! You can also add beads (idk if you’ll find it in Korea though) and curl the ends by braiding the braids (complicated Ik) and dipping in hot water!

I'm mixed Asian (Lao) and Black. I have box braids right now too. My hair grows really fast especially my edges, so I just get my edges redone around week 3 or 4 to make the style last longer. BUT type 3 hair doesn't really last as long in braids.. we might only be able to get like 2 months at most.

Tips for your box braids (from a fellow black girl 💇🏾♀️): - silk or satin bonnets (for sleeping) - hair oil like: jojoba, macadamia, and Morocco (helps with growth and moisturization. only apply to your scalp) - hair mousse to help with frizz and keeping it fresh looking (foam mousse is best. apply to hair and scalp every night before you sleep and every morning before school) - silk or satin hair wraps for when you sleep (help retain moisture and keeps the braids from frizzing and getting flyaways from sleeping on them) - massage if there's any discomfort (better to do it w the oil so it will seep better but it really doesn't matter) ❤️❤️❤️

I got braids when I was younger but I really don't remember. So, the first time I installed braids or twists in my hair was around 21 or 22 years old and I photoshopped my face to a picture of somebody with them. I also wasn't sure if I would look good in them. I think it's a really cool moment to realize this aspect of our culture is accessible to you no matter where you are. It's kind of like unlocking a new level or ability in a video game.

a silk bonnet should help protect your hair and prevent a lot of split ends. you can also use oil on your scalp so it won’t be too dry (i recommend peppermint oil or tea tree oil) and when you take them out, it’s normal for there to be a lot of shedding. if you want them to lay extremely flat you can use mousse and a headscarf to make the top of the braids lay down. the braids look beautiful on you & i hope this helps !!

As a person who's had box braids or box twists for the majority of my life, I'd say there's not much to worry about! Just remember to go to bed with a cap for your hair to maintain the braids, and don't keep it in for too long bc it can damage your hair, I learned the hard way :/ Also, the pain you might feel once you get the braids done is only temporary^^

I'm half Puerto Rican and half Korean and it's really difficult at times because my body has the Latina shape yet my face looks Korean so I just feel very out of place and different.... I feel much more in touch with my Puerto Rican heritage because all my family from my mothers side (the Puerto Rican side) are always around my sister and I so like I know so much more about that side of my race, yet I dream of being able to fully speak Korean and go to school or live there... I'm just worried about being judged for not speaking Korean well even tho I'm half and also because my body is a much different shape than the "typical" asian body type. but this lovely video really made me feel not as lonely (?) ... idk ...I just really appreciate this video and I feel like I want to be friends with you and your friends, thank you so much for this video and sharing your experiences!!

너어어어어무 예뻐요~~~^^ When I was schooling in Ghana I had to cut my hair really short (like a boy's) so when I finished school box braids was the first and only hairstyle I did for ages because my hair was too short to do anything with it. All my other friends had it as well, and even though it was so common I find it soo beautiful. Recently I started doing my own braids and also using different colours (i love blue braids). Its really cool that this is your first time and there are so many different ways you can style box braids. I literally learnt everything off youtube so i would recommend just looking at youtube and I'm sure you'll find something helpful to take care of your braids. 퀴니 화이팅!

the hair looks fire girl, congrats on your first day with the hairstyle🤗🤗. Don't worry about the reactions, we all went through and still go through this, what's important is that you stay proud of your hair no matter what! eAs for tips, moisturize your scalp with water and essential oils. To avoid build-up if you do a lot of sports, wash once a week or every two weeks, if not stay to once or twice a month. For bed, wear a silk or satin headscarf or bonnet to reduce friction with your pillowcase, maintain moisture, and preserve your hairstyle. You can also buy a silk pillowcase if you don't like scarves and bonnets. But, in general, you should be doing all of these things whatever the hairstyle even when you have loose hair❤hope it helps!
@wolfgangxx95602 жыл бұрын
Everytime I do braids I generally like to sleep with a head scarf (that is silk) rather than a bonnet because bonnets become very uncomfortable when sleeping. also tie your hair in two plaited pigtails or two French braids or one from braid before going to bed. After your hair is plaited put on the head scarf. This type of method was the most comfortable to me. I only put on oil when my hair was slightly dry. So you just have to feel your hair and see how it’s felt. Also get hair spray that is specifically designed for braids/box braids and you can also use that with the oil you had gotten. So my advice for is you don’t have to put oil in your hair everyday as it could come loose with the type of hair you have.

You look gorgeous!!! Your classmate was right, you do look like a model! Also, if you want to wash your hair, there are hair rinse products you can buy specifically for braids and protective styles. If you have a hair store or can find the products the brands are dark and lovely or African prides hair rinse. It comes in a bottle with an applicator tip(like a ketchup top). Also, oil your hair regularly so it won’t dry out and make sure to put a moisturizer on your scalp then the oil, so the oil can seal in the moisture! And it also helps your scalp not get itchy! Again, you look so pretty and I hope you get to try more protective styles!

When you're ready to take them down. Make sure you detangle each braid before you wash your hair. You may have to use a little conditioner as you detangle each braid. After you take them down I suggest a good wash with a detangler comb or brush just to make sure all the tangles are out. Deep condition after you wash your hair. Even a hot oil treatment wouldn't hurt. Give your hair and scalp a break before getting it braided again. Also, if you want to do a mild protein treatment on your hair you can blend one egg to your favorite conditioner. Let it set for 10 to 15 minutes then rinse well.

Yes, this all the way! If you don’t detangle as you go, it’s way harder to do it after when all your hair is out.

the braids are so cute on you!! here are some tips :) ~ *oil your scalp regularly (i use peppermint oil to soothe itchy scalp) *washing your hair frequently might cause it to get frizzy quickly, so i usually only wash every 3-4 weeks (i wear my braids for about 3 months) *wear a silk scarf or bonnet when you go to sleep. it protects your natural hair from drying out on cotton pillows *be gentle when taking the braids out. when they are all taken down, please don't detangle your hair while it's dry: this may cause breakage and split ends. i comb through my hair when it's a little damp with some conditioner or some kind of detangler and then wash. (also it's normal to have a lot of shed hair since you've had it in a protective style for a long time) *have fun! :) you can do lot's of styles

Be careful woth the peppermint oil if you use that. You only want to use a few drops, maybe dilute the oil with another hair oil like almond oil. dip a q-tip in the oil mix and then put it on your scalp. Too much mint oil will irritate your scalp and the smell is very strong. It helps to just buy "braid oil". Mandatory to cover your hair at night with a silk bonnet or scarf. If you don't, soon you'll notice your own hair starting to come out of the braids 😊. Hope that helps!
