I had this in video back in the day. He was brutally honest about his players, one of many great traits in the man

Yes, didn’t hold back. Wonder what the players thought, did it motivate them?

The key to Jack's success with Ireland was that he spent more time concentrating on stopping the opposition than thinking about what he was going to do when he got the ball and that he made it clear and simple to his players. Play this way and you'll stop the opponent and then chances and goals will come your way just as a matter of course. Listening to him here you can see he knew what he wanted and also that he could read the game at a very high level. It's a shame his tactics were considered nothing more than "lump it forward" and "put em under pressure". There was more to it than that.

Wouldn't complain about the delay in finishing times. Caused when Spain had Zubizarreta sent off and his replacement Cañazares had a stormer to keep Denmark at bay.

Was just about to say, might be the worst song I’ve ever heard. If we’d sing this at the Dutch for 90 mins, no way we’d have lost

Back then I never fully appreciated how great Jack Charlton was, and I HATED football. In 1994 I was 19 years old, a long haired rocker and outcast and still trying to find my place. Back then I didn't want Ireland to make it to America cos I was obsessed with my heavy metal music and resented football cos I'd never been able to get into it and felt like an outcast compared to all my school/college compadres. However, I grew out of that, and though I kept the long hair for many more years I grew to love Ireland's football endeavours (though I don't play it) and from 2002 to now I wear green along with everyone else. I want Ireland to WIN the World Cup. I soooooo wish I'd been able to appreciate it more in the 90s. So glad I can watch them now and love them too.
