Shanks was the greatest ever British manager. He was loved by all of his players. It would have been a pleasure to play football for that man. He would however have hated Modern football with its corruption and greed. Shankly was like every Scottish boy, and like the Queens Park motto he played for the love of the game. God bless the Shanks. We will never see your likes again.

Rubbish. Chapman, Busby, Stein, Paisley, Clough, maybe Revie, Ferguson without doubt are greater. 3 titles in 15 years? His mouth gets him higher praise than he deserved. Died a broken man after Liverpool finally called his bluff.

@user-uk5jd7uw7w ah but what Shankly built lasted for over 15 years he'd retired and that is why he's the best, every manager you just mentioned except Bob Paisley, their clubs was in decline a soon as they left them.
@bazza-e9t
@bazza-e9t 5 ай бұрын
@@croftstickcroftstick4333 But the continued success was down to Paisley. Yes Shankly laid the foundations but no more than the others. Difference was Paisley. Shankly was overrated, in terms of what he won. Very very good yes but many are better. 7 years without a trophy 66-73. His mouth got him exposure.

What a legend he is Bill Shankly 15 years years as Liverpool manager made us the best team in the world in the 70s to early 90s then in 1992 Sky and BPL came along with their Money and destroyed English football forever FACT it's a shame we won't see that passion anymore in the game but I hope Jurgen Klopp who does have passion for the game can give are Liverpool player's what this club is all about and the game.

Do Liverpool fans know Bill had a brother that was almost as famous as his brother, Bob Shankly took Dundee F.C. to there only League championship win in the early sixties also took Dundee to the European cup, (as it was called in those days) semi finals, in 1962, Dundee won first leg at home, but we're beaten in second leg to eventual Winners Inter Milan amongst much jiggery Pokery in Italy..anyway awesome achievement for a provincial Scottish team, Dundee gave German champs 8-1 at Dens, amongst other great results on way to Semis, Bob Crampsey renowned and respected football brain in Scotland said the Dundee team at that time, in his view best Scottish team since war including Celtics Lisbon loins...God bless Bob Shankley.

Shankly definitely was a great man who wasn't arrogant and as he rightly said that he wanted to see Liverpool as conquerors of Britain and the world as a whole.3 league titles, 2 F.A. cups and one cup in Europe. It's no wonder that Shankly wanted Paisley his assistant to continue where he left off.As an Arsenal fan, I like Liverpool, because they were moral, mature and mild and the city love their football too.

i am a united fan but this is brilliant, brillant, particularly the last 10 minutes that show snippets of his interviews and the nuggets of wisdom... some poignant words, "it cost me my family time", keeping things simple, the use of big words, which he abhorred, alot of that stuff has now come to pass in modern football speak, unfortunately....stories by the ex players, fantastic... i watch all the documentaries on the great managers, paisley, shankly, clough, dalglish, fergusson, busby, revie, stein, the foreign managers, trapp, dutch mgr of 70s,common thread through them all, geat judgement of character, kept things very simple, clear,

You don't mention which United? The only true United play in Yellow White and Blue! You are Probably a native of Cornwall or some point South! Bill Shankly built Liverpool from the rubble he was left with, bless him for that. Bob Paisley took over a well oiled machine. Revie left behind a similar legacy but the board mucked it up appointing Clough. Busby built the other United from the ground up after Munich. Those three are true legends of the modern game. Clough and Fergusson bankrolled by Rupert Murdoch, bah humbug!

Was he bankrolled at Derby and forest? No. Neither was fergusson... was he bankrolled at Aberdeen when he won leagues in Scotland in 80s against the power houses celtic Aberdeen? No ... neither was he at united...go away and educate yourself and stop dragging your knuckles along the floor... ya fool ya...

Dan Voke Liverpool - 5, Manchester United - 3; (Sir) Bob Paisley - 3, Fergie - 2; Bob + Shanks - 24 years, Fergie - 27 years. Liverpool is the most successful British club in European competition. That's a fact. Manchester United has never, ever dominated Europe; Liverpool did.

Dan Voke Oh, and as for the 'more trophies than Shankly and Paisley', that is true. You cannot compare, though, because Liverpool was not even in the First Division when Shankly took over. The club was in a mess when he arrived, which can hardly be said for Manchester United. Underachieving, maybe, but not a complete shambles of a club.

During the Shanks period it was Bob Paisley behind the scenes that done the tactics & selected players to be bought, Shanks was the heart that made Liverpool beat but Paisley was the brain & that's why when Shankley retired Paisley just carried on & it was business as usual & Shankley was cold shouldered by Paisley as he was now fully in charge & he didn't want any distractions & he was right, Bill was out & Bob was now in. The rest is history & without Paisley during the Shankley period they wouldn't have won as much as they did with him.

i realise this is a video about Shankly, one of the true greats given what he achieved after starting off with next to nothing, but i can't help noticing that Leeds team in the 1965 FA cup final - included players like Sprake, Bremner, Hunter, Reaney, Charlton, Giles who were still playing for the club when they won the first division a full nine years later. Impossible to imagine a group of players in the modern era staying together like that. OK, back to the video about Liverpool.

GOAT! Shanks the legend, god, saviour, messiah you name it that was him. Some people say that football is a matter of life and death. I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you that it is much much more important than that. I am an Evertonian and I respected him although I loved it when we thrashed him and them 4-0 at Anfield in September 1964. The biggest humiliation was the season after when we went back to Anfield and lost 5-0 although it is best not to think about that. Prior to him we were and still was the big club on Merseyside but by the early Seventies this no longer the case. In terms of success and trophies them lot became better than us but not in terms of supporters either in quality or quantity.

He is still very highly thought of round here, I live about 3 miles from where he was born, I remember quite a few years Liverpool Reserves were playing Sunderland Reserves and the Liverpool Reserve went and laid a wreath at his memorial stone in Hetton-le-Hole and paid there respects

Loved it. Thanks. ( Great to have some extended highlights in there). Great manager - great crowd - great teams. And what different times. They never practised a corner or a free kick ?! But ate steak and played five-a-side a lot. Haha. Being a Q.P.R fan who came to football during the 75/76 season, I always was a bit reluctant to look back and embrace the Shankly era, but it was worth waiting for. That last hour and a half was a joy.

Golden days of the game for me, players played for the love of the game and their club, and they wanted to play every game! Not like the majority of prima donnas that play now, only in it for the money and are out injured at every chance and for the smallest of things.

Why do Scots make such good managers?
@roolaing
@roolaing 7 жыл бұрын
Jimbobjim jim Not sure if this is still as true, but it certainly was when I was growing up. Scots like Shankly are hard. Not pretend hard, where numpties dress in Burberry and have a rumble at the weekend. But genuine toughness, grit and determination. The type of stuff that means you survive hard working environments or you don’t. Men of integrity, with an emphasis on the ‘grit’. No surprise that Shankly says he ‘never cheated anybody.’ I know so many men like him from Glasgow, and I’m sure there are plenty in Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle too. We also have a sizeable chip on our shoulder and a need to prove ourselves, particularly to the English. I don’t know why. Shankly and Ferguson were both ‘more Scottish’ being down South, they have both said so. Swear words also sound 100% more intimidating/motivating through a Scottish accent, which probably has something to do with it!!
@Isleofskye
@Isleofskye 6 жыл бұрын
Because they know about people and COMMUNITY. Fergusom/Stein/Shankly/Busby all came from tough working-class backgrounds and you so learn to rely and depend on each other. Just seen Mike Todd's "Shankly" film from 2017 and the crowd scenes are amazing especially bringing The FA Cup home in 1965 which is THE trophy Shanks wanted ash tought it disgraceful that they hadnever won it. Despite the name I am an English Londoner one million per cent.
