Have you heard the song That’s The Way by Led Zeppelin? The live version has such beautiful mandolin and it’s pretty bad ass too! I prefer the live version over the studio

The guitar uses double drop D tuning so you get the D droning sound. Another great lesson by you. Thank you for mentioning the notes, note just the tabs.

Yes! Agreed - I need notes not frets numbers, so much appreciated. Especially when identifying chord names. Makes the learning so much quicker.

@@jamesgoodwin3403 Fret numbers are good as well, but with note names and knowing the key, I just remember it as scale runs or visualize the notes on the Music score.

Excellent lesson! I keep coming back to this video trying to perfect the licks. Battle of Evermore is another great lesson as well! Wondering if you’ve ever covered Stairway to Heaven? Would love to see a lesson on this classic Zeppelin tune for mando.

@@RockPopMandolin and BTW, my theory is that JPJ meant to start his intro lick on beat 1 of bar 7, not beat 2. It works and sounds much better if you start it on beat 1. But if you're stoned and waiting for 6 bars of monotonous guitar licks to happen, you could easily lose track of where you are. "Oh wait, it's my turn to play now". He dealt with it by shortening the lick he intended to play by one beat.

In that video, I’m using a brand called the Loar, model LM-520. But these days, I use a custom instrument by Johansson mandolins.

Well, Zep songs seem to be played in different ways. Even JPJ plays it differently in videos that I’ve seen.

I've listened to 3 different versions played by JPJ, and every one is quite different. The best approach is to memorize the vocal melodies sung by Robert Plant, then work out what you would play to complement his singing. That is, make it your own.
