Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

I Was obsessed by Led Zeppelin as a Teenager all the albums and had so many posters all over my room. then after I grew older just gave all of the posters away for free to a stranger. And quit listening and got into other bands. And basically now that I am in my 60's. I realize after all these years that what I was hearing in my headphones while lying in bed in my dark bedroom coming from my record player on my stereo system was most definitely some of the greatest music I would ever hear in my lifetime.

Ridiculous to think that in 1972 I went with a friend to see Led Zeppelin in Cardiff. We were blown away by the performance and the gig will live with me for life. The sheer talent of the guys was unbelievable and the music nectar to the ears. What made it even better when looking back was the gig cost us £1.50 each. Even have the ticket stub to this day and our children cannot believe that you could see the group classed as the number one in the world so cheaply. Those were great days with so many fabulously talented musicians across the board.

I don't exactly remember what year it was, but I do remember my parents would go to a gas station on the other side of the road to save a penny a gallon. The price of gas was something like 18 cents a gallon. If it was 17 cents across the street and they had to wait in line, that's what we did.

It is amazing how inexpensive shows were back then, but the economics of the business were totally different. At that time shows were largely seen as a way of promoting album sales, which was where the real money was. Today, even top artists sell very few physical albums, and streaming revenue does not come close to what bands used to make from actual sales. The pot of gold now is found in live performance, if an artist can get to the level necessary to play arenas and stadiums. These elaborate shows cost much more to produce than rock shows of the 60s and 70s, but the high prices they somehow get for tickets make it worth it.

I can’t believe Plant was embarrassed about these lyrics.. I would kill to write like this. Every line filled with so much beautiful imagery. It’s dark, haunting, and mysterious.. everything good lyric writing should be. And the singing is so varied. He sounds like three different people singing together the way the tracks are interwoven. Most singers of this period would think of recording as a live performance with a singular lead vocal, but this is a whole different thing. Hats off

The Battle of Evermore - Lyrics Queen of Light took her bow And then she turned to go, The Prince of Peace embraced the gloom And walked the night alone. Oh, dance in the dark of night, Sing to the morn-ing light. The dark Lord rides in force tonight And time will tell us all. Oh, throw down your plow and hoe, Rest not to lock your homes. Side by side we wait the might Of the darkest of them all. I hear the horses' thunder Down in the valley below, I'm waiting for the angels of Avalon, Waiting for the eastern glow. The apples of the valley hold The seeds of happiness, The ground is rich from tender care, Repay, do not forget, no, no. Oh, dance in the dark of night, Sing to the morning light. The apples turn to brown and black, The tyrant's face is red. Oh the war is common cry, Pick up you swords and fly. The sky is filled with good and bad That mortals never know. Oh, well, the night is long The beads of time pass slow, Tired eyes on the sunrise, Waiting for the eastern glow. The pain of war cannot exceed The woe of aftermath, The drums will shake the castle wall, The ringwraiths ride in black, Ride on. Sing as you raise your bow, Shoot straighter than before. No comfort has the fire at night That lights the face so cold. Oh dance in the dark of night, Sing to the mornin' light. The magic runes are writ in gold To bring the balance back. Bring it back. At last the sun is shining, The clouds of blue roll by, With flames from the dragon of darkness The sunlight blinds his eyes. Oh, bring it back, bring it back...

Ah, I always thought it was, "I hear worries asunder, down in the valley below" but I think you're right about the horses thunder, minus the 'the', with just a bit of echo or something on it. I have been listening to this song since at least 1975 and only learned in the last few months that the great late Sandy Denny was a guest vocalist on this song. In fact from what I have come to understand she is the only guest vocalist to ever appear on a Led Zep song. How in the F&*% did I miss that for 48 years???

People often talk about under-rated songs. It's usually all hype, no substance. However, here that term can be applied appropriately. This is easily one of Zeps best songs yet mentioned so infrequently. The dizzying interplay of acoustics between Page and Jones, the same for the vocals of Plant and Denny, along with sweeping, mystical lyrics makes this a once in a lifetime composition. Singular.

This song always brings a tear to my eyes it is sooo good. Funny how that works. The choice of using Sandy Denny for this duet was brilliant. I think Robert ran into her at an awards ceremony from a Sandy Denny documentary I was watching and the drummer from Fotheringay telling the story. Sandy Denny's voice was the female equal of Robert Plants I think and she had an emotion and depth that few could reach when singing a song. Just listen to Who Knows Where The Time Goes and see how it touches your soul. Led Zeppelin were one of the biggest bands around at the time according to the drummer and Sandy Denny was the only guest singer to ever sing with Led Zeppelin. Sadly she passed away a few years after this duet. 1978 I think. Much like Karen Carpenter she died way too early leaving us to wonder how many more great songs they could have sung. Robert forged on after Led Zeppelin and gave us so many gems of songs. There is something about youth and talent way beyond your years though that puts Led Zeppelin IV in a special place. I believe it was released in 1971 and it is one of those albums that defies time. Battle Of Evermore with Sandy definitely moves it into that category. Thank you so much for the music and songs Gentleman and Folk Rock Lady. Wish we could Bring It Back ..and see you perform it just once. I imagine that every time I hear it....and that is what also brings a tear to my eyes, it can never be. :(

@@bloomfusion The Bring it Back part at the end of this recording gives me shivers down my spine everytime. The mixing with the reverb and a little bit of delay and Robert's pleading passionate voice with the crescendo at the end tailing off into just the mandolin and guitar fading out is one of those magical moments caught on tape. A message based in a medieval setting but relevant for all time. For our time now. As Smedley Butler wrote in 1933. War is a racket. Another great observation from the past.

@@jamesbond4633 It’s a Makita map thing but you could say it’s been sigilized 😂 It’s the thing all compasses .2 but you have to look at the old maps to find it just think if some initiated thinkers are correct and the above is the reflection of below but the reflection of a much bigger below the whole place does look like the Potters ground doesn’t it? It would certainly make sense of the Emerald tablets and the description of the sinking of Atlantis perhaps even explaining the 40 years travelling through the desert to reach the promised land and discovering only the northern areas inhabited at that time depending on which timeline you’re looking at and whether or not it’s in any way similar to the tales of ancient Ireland and the root race theories Which I guess would mean some came from below or underneath and some came from beyond but not from space As most understand it it would also explain the ancient contact and more recent contact from beings that claim to be galactic entities who have come from the stars which of course would be a secondary reflection of the real creators or pots could this explain the plane of jars ?? So many astrological features projected above us in the stars that are also closer have been emulated in ancient sites some of which like Stonehenge totally rebuilt in the 1900s and how many times before ancient cataclysms any advanced race would consider either going elsewhere or living on the ground you’ve Gotta hand it to them if they made all of this up Since the last major cataclysm and hind this false history releasing it back out into the world the whole thing could be complete cobblers and we might still be in the same world system chasing a truth that has been agreed upon as Napoleon said if he ever existed??? I do not understand how the human imagination came up with this song. Beautiful and eerily unique. For a song to be so fairy tale-ish in its theme, while being worthy of an edgy hard rock ballad in its style, is just amazing to me. Mesmerizing isn't a good enough of a word to describe it. It's mythical. Hypnotic. And I will say that this is one of the greatest musical masterpieces in the entire history of music. It's other worldly when you listen to it by a little campfire at night; echoing through the trees and over the fields, and saturating the thin night air. Peter Jackson should have incorporated this in The Lord of the Rings at some point. Strange that he didn't. This is in the same category for me that Stairway to Heaven, Dream On, Gimme Shelter, Year of the Cat, Wildfire, Highway Song, Half Moon Silver, and several others belong to. Simply incredible. Another phenomenal, melancholy piece of musical genius from what might be the greatest era in music.
