Bravo ! I was hoping you would do a BOE lesson. This song is the reason I bought my first mandolin. I have watched all other videos I’ve able to find as well as a few tab sources. Everyone plays it at least a little different including Page. I’ve heard some say it’s because he was mostly noodling when they recorded the song. I’ve come to the conclusion it’s mostly about getting into the spirit and groove of the song, and enjoy playing rather than trying to match the recording note for note. In the process put a little of your own spin on it. As to your lesson, you did a great job, in your explanation and demonstration. Easy to follow. I especially appreciate that you covered the Em riff towards the end. For me that is the coolest part of the song. I’ve only seen one other video that covers it. And I understand much better the way you showed it. I do also agree that it’s cool there have been videos made for the great song, and there can be bits taken from all. I appreciate the time and effort that goes into making videos like this available. Happy to be one of your patrons. Thank you !

Thanks, mate. You are most welcome. I like that little Em part too and I don't know why most other folks skip it. It's a cool little lick that can be used in other songs. Also, I agree with your point about getting the spirit and groove of the song. That's what I aim for... to inspire people and get them going on tunes like this one. I think that's what Nancy Wilson does in her video too, I think. She plays the main verse riff in a totally different way. Again, a fun interpretation.

Thank you very much Mike! While I know how to play piano, I've only dabbled with the violin, mandolin, guitar and cello. Battle of Evermore has always been my favorite mandolin "rock" song. I just got a mandolin and this helped me a great deal! Is it me, or if you play guitar already, this song isn't so hard? I feel like I've paid my strumming dues to some degree, I guess. Excited to learn more mando songs from you!!

thank you man! I found this super helpful to me. I kinda felt weird at 9:09 bc of the stacked-up fingers trying to find space on the 2nd fret on that A6 chord. That shit didn't fit in tune and you had that same shit that I did. But I found it easier, safer and cleaner if I barred it.

Thanks for doing this Mike. Once again, Led Zeppelin cornered the market with a piece of music that has become an industry standard. Every guitarist knows some version of Stairway to Heaven and every mandolin player needs to have some version of Battle of Evermore in their trick bag. Amazing how ubiquitous this band's music is. Find a mandolin player in any country in earth right now and they will demonstrate their version of this tune for you! Bravo Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. And I have to say, if you are not a radio announcer or someone who capitalizes on your incredible voice, you should be! You have an absolutely classic radio voice.
@RockPopMandolin
@RockPopMandolin 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, thanks so much, mate. Actually, I was a radio announcer (and TV anchor) for a number of years… back before grey hair set in! Lol! But you are correct about this tune. It is one of the rock standards for mandolin.
@grady9752
@grady9752 2 жыл бұрын
@@RockPopMandolin Grey hair? Really? Which one? Thanks again Mike. At some point, we are considering starting to upload content to KZbin. My wife is a flutist, I play guitars and mandolin. We currently have a small repertoire, enough to maybe fill one 45 minute set, but the process of putting together duets may be something others could find beneficial. Your "show, tell, do" format is one we may choose to emulate. Maybe a few folks could learn a thing or two from our mistakes. Anyway, domo! Your hard work has not gone unnoticed.

@@RockPopMandolinYeah it was more that I needed to go look at the tab and play with the song. There’s a coda right as the bridge starts which threw my timing off a little bit and he does a slight variation of that main bridge part the first time

Why is it hard to play with the original recording of this song? The record sounds out of tune
@RockPopMandolin
@RockPopMandolin 2 жыл бұрын
Any number of reasons. The original mando could have been out of tune, or the recording could have been slowed down or sped up. If you want to adjust it, use a free app called TimePitch. You can move the pitch up or down and play along with the original track.
