Kinda weird how everything seemed so old and average in a $1000 a night hotel. I thought Japanese people are almost perfectionists when it comes to service etc..

Yeah it's weird - it's basically 1k for the view, everything else was pretty 'okay' considering the absurd price.

yeah, the Hotel was really old but the service was really good! every staff we met was 5 stars, very kind and helpful. but yes the price comes from the location and view, there's much better hotels for half the price
