How To Catch A Pimp: With an estimated 100,000 children involved in prostitution in the Philippines, one Australian father has gone undercover, posing as a sex tourist to uncover a criminal underworld of pimps and victims.

As a devout Christian with tee-total parents, getting into character as a paedophile was always going to be a stretch for Tony Kirwan. "I was extremely uncomfortable when I first started doing this", says Kirwan. Yet his distress at the world of sleaze and exploitation emboldened him to pose as its worst type of customer. After becoming aware of the scale of child trafficking in Thailand, he founded Destiny Rescue, a charity funded by donations and mostly staffed by volunteers. "I've got no specific skills in this other than I guess a heart of a dad", he says. Now he is part of a motley crew with no background in law enforcement, whose assistance to under-resourced local police is essential. "At any time we'd have a couple of dozen agents around the world in six different countries, ready to go out into the brothels... and get some people arrested and more children rescued", says Kirwan. He claims to have seen 2,500 children and young adults rescued from trafficking in the last seven years, with an 80% success rate in not returning. We watch as months of preparation come to a head, culminating in the biggest raid in Destiny Rescue's history.

That’s amazing. The world needs people like you, with real hearts and real empathy. I would love to be able to help save kids and others from sex abuse someday too. I wasn’t trafficked, but I survived childhood sexual abuse, my earliest memory being at four years old. My perpetrator was a close family member in the house with me.

@@cassgray9340 Thank you so much, and I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I didn't go through that kind of thing with my family specifically (they definitely were still abusive, just not sexually... a lot of slapping and arguing and insane rules 24/7), although I have some very close friends who went through it with theirs... I can't even imagine what that must be like. I also think it's incredible that you want to help join the fight as well! Thank you. There are many ways to get involved, from law enforcement, cybersecurity, legal/courtroom, casework, insurance, finance, public health, education system, maritime, psychology, politics... etc, etc. And tbh we need all the help we can get. People who work in SVU and anti-trafficking often say they don't have enough hands on deck to keep up with the increasing number of cases coming in. That terrifies me. So, no matter what path you choose, you'll be doing a miraculous thing for our world, and I think you're awesome to have survived and be willing to do so!

That girls personality, built-up rage, and emotions too are very similar to mine. I may not have been human trafficked, sexually abused/exploited, or sexually harrassed in the way they were, but I can 100% understand how that specific girl felt because I was in the same place at one point. My mom told me to write my feelings out on paper. And I wasn't allowed to curse and say anything bad about my mother or father, or else I would get a beating. So I wrote the worst, sinful things on paper, read it over a million times, cried, crumbled it up, and threw it away. I sincerely hope and pray for people who go through things like this, no matter what living situation they are in. It's sad, and they shouldn't go through it empty and isolated like the way we were.

You can look for organizations that have support groups and always give the idea to them, or even organize your own group. When I was in high school I volunteered at a local LGBT organization and ended up pitching an idea for a support group for transgender SA victims (as they had different groups for different lgbt members throughout the week) and it ended up happening, along with educational panels regarding that topic. I hate pedos w a passion and as a mother myself I cannot fathom it- I would sell myself, beg borrow or steal to feed or clothes my child... but extreme poverty does crazy things to people not to mention if the parents were abused as kids it could very well seem normal to them. Not to justify it because it's terrible but.... Also it could be that someone got ahold of the brother and gave him food or money for doing that. A little kid has no understanding of something being wrong, especially a hungry kid with no access to resources. Could be that the parents had no idea. Your comment comes from a privileged Western understanding of life. I don't imagine that you have ever been to a 3rd world country, or seen the type of poverty that is everyday reality in places like the Philippines. Is it wrong? Yes. Tragic? Absolutely. But before you are so quick to judge, just know that as a westerner, you have access to more money and resources than 70% of the world's population.

I appreciate that he consistently refers to the minors as “kids” instead of “young women.” In most circumstances, that would irritate me and seem infantilizing - but not here. So often people refer to these victims as “young women” in a way to perhaps make themselves feel better. It is distinctly uncomfortable to say that word “kid” in this situation - it SHOULD BE. Any steps to distance from that are a mistake, in my opinion.

Marlyn is so strong. It's beautiful how she turned her trauma into her strength to use what she feels inside to know how to help these girls. The way she buys toys and always lets the girls play bcus she never had the chance to, is amazing. I hope Marlyn gets all the good she deserves. I also hope that she is raising more future heroes that can also help the many more sex trafficked children out there in the world, and not just the philippines.

Thank you for doing this. I had to report someone once for trafficking (I drove taxi) and he was really creepy and his new "wife" he just brought back from the Philippines was still carrying her stuffed animal and using a hello kitty purse. I don't think she was even 18. He was over 60 and a "minister". I hope they've stopped him. I did notice cops on his road. It was not his first "wife" he brought back here. :(

Children should never know this kind of torment. They should never know anything but love, trust, and normal healthy childhood life. But because of this incredibly evil world, we are forced with the reality that this happens. Every. Single. Day. Everywhere. But every single person who helps put a stop to just one more child being harmed, is a true hero among men. Every life matters. And every time one is saved, it is a day to celebrate.

“Sex tourism”. The fact that we even have such a horrible term in existence says how common this occurs. I watched a documentary about it. Yes, locals engage in these activities as this one say, but that should not be taken as justification by anyone for these horrific acts to occur. I find it even more deeply disgusting that people in developed countries purposely travel to less developed countries to engage in sex/sex acts with children. I will never forget the documentary catching on hidden camera a middle aged guy discussing where to purchase young boys. He was talking about how he visited the country once a year or every other year…like he was talking about traveling to Disneyland or going on a vacation. 🤬 It was the sole purpose of his trip. I can’t describe how disgusted and angry I felt. I don’t know what happened to him but I hope his life was ruined, he never gets out of prison, and everyone who knows him finds out what a disgusting human he is. For pedophiles, pimps, traffickers, and people like this, I wish the worst life has to offer. Here is one of the documentaries I saw. Here is one of the first u fee over vids I ever saw. I remember being livid and disgusted. I still am. At 17:53 here is an American DOCTOR bragging and giving an undercover agent tips on not getting caught. He openly admits/ brags about what he does multiple times throughout this documentary. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGLapZZmorRohM0

I think that might be an antiquated notion based on the idea that it's a shameful secret they should never tell anyone, which could traumatize them further/lead to feelings of guilt and shame & social denial of the problem. They all seem to attend a school for survivors of trafficking so maybe there's no point in attempting anonymity anyways given the circumstances.

The therapy room looks so nice. As a victim of child sex abuse within my own family, I was told never to express how angry i was, to just "be happy" it was over, and guilt tripped into not telling authorities by my own therapists because "theyre family." I was told being angry was wrong, that it was on me to "forgive" my abusers and that I could never let go if I didnt. Im sorry, I cant forgive an entire childhood of abuse from my own flesh and blood. Not everyone deserves forgiveness and not everyone will heal from it. The moments the anger comes out, while never externalised with violence, still scares my family with the extreme amounts of it. I just end up talking myself into flashbacks that end with my mother crying and being unable to look at me (because it wasnt her side of the family, she was also disgusted and mortified, but also unaware of the severity and ive been forced to minimise it for her comfort). My dad left the state to avoid looking at me because I havent "gotten better" and dont fully function as an adult (it WAS his family, and he feels guilty not helping and still being close with the people who abused me, but im honestly angry, he can cut them off at any time but instead cut me off for being the victim so he doesnt have to deal with it). I have reoccuring intrusive thoughts of murdering my abuser and people like him, violent images flood my mind because I was never allowed to process them. Even to this day I just bottle them up and spend hours daydreaming about how i would do things to them. Im so glad these girls dont have to bottle that up. They can express themselves in a safe room and let the feelings pass. The trauma will always live within them, but theyll at least know how to manage it going forward. Edit: spelling corrections and clarification Edit 2: Please stop sending me evangelical Christian comments. My trauma is not an excuse to preach the good gospel. I understand religion brings comfort and security to people, ans I wont take that away from you, but it's not comforting to think being molested by my Christian family members was a part of "God's plan." Why do you feel the need to force your faith on others who have not asked for it? I have no real impact on your life. My converting will mean nothing to you beyond making YOU feel like you did something good with no real merit or effort being made to actually help. I don't want to hear about YHWH Jehovah God, The Father, The Son, The Holy Ghost, Head Shoulders Knees And Toes, Do a little shimmy and strike a pose, Ey Macarena. Keep your faith to yourself. I do not want it here.

A big Fck You🖕to that therapist and anyone else who thinks you should be working around their comfort in facing the reality of what happened to YOU!! It’s not about them! In my honest opinion it doesn’t make you an any “better” person forgiving an offender vs never forgiving them. There are some vile and sick actions that don’t deserve any kind of forgiveness or sympathy. They are not the ones hurting, they have no say for the things you had to suffer through alone. That being said I hope you’re in a better environment and have people you can trust and confide in
