=============
ABOUT THE SHOW: What will Singapore be like in the future, as city planners, corporations and scientists find new ways to overcome land shortage? The ground under our feet, the sea around the island, even empty spaces above roads and canals might be used for transportation, storage, homes, offices and other infrastructure. The series showcases how other land-scarce cities Tokyo, Hong Kong, London and Helsinki use these unusual locations to overcome limited land, and what Singapore can learn from their experiences.

As a renewable energy scientist and someone who understands the value of land, I have always cringed when I have seen huge tracts of land covered with solar panels. Look at the width of the roadways and rail lines. The perfect place for solar arrays. Transit lanes where bright light and falling rain would not be missed. Get you panels 30 feet in the air where dust and debris does not like to live!

The elite look down on the poor. They worship money. The poor worship Jesus. Events mentioned in revelations are happening. Have faith in god and love thy neighbor. Heaven is real. Money worshipers can buy many things. You cannot buy your way into heaven. It lives in the heart of those who are pure in spirit. God is Love.

Ventilation is one issue I would like to hear more about. How do they provide suitable ventialtion for underground roads full of cars that are burning up all the oxygen? Helsinki's underground service route for wiring and plumbing is truly ground breaking! Every city has the issue that it is hard to dig up old pipes and wires to fix them or lay new ones. That is one really fantastic idea!

It's as easy as ventilating large skyscrapers without windows. They can't open the windows, so extensive ductwork is used to push air throughout the building. Plus, they can use plants to release tons of oxygen, in addition to pumping in fresh air.

Tom Kelly THere is a teo part spray machine ststem ..-that sprays on a plastic coating which is bedliner ..and I can stick all materials together.. like I spray on glue!.. and you could make floating cities by making a plywood circle into each tire ..and then spraying bedliner on it .. and now it’s a holds air.. indefinitely.. and you Up plastic bottles which also last indefinitely and put those inside of netting and onion bags etc. and you create a floating island.. and then you could use netting that is salvaged from all over the ocean and create a floating island like Richard Sowa- did If you type in Richard Sowas floating Island..You should be able to see what he made out of onion bags ..holding water bottles then he put pallets and boards Whatever cast off stuff he could find and ocean wayer loving plants ..-with which then grew and root matted it all into a root mass that was floating ..-holding everything together ..the problem is it was in a Mexican Ocean Inlet. Ocean inlet somewhere .and a hurricane storm surge-made it wash up on to the shore -and then at that point it was just a whole bunch of mess,.. that eventually got burned.. because there was no way to move it back out in the ocean- so I don’t know whatever happened to Richard ..-after that..I would love to know But I sincerely believe that you could even take steel rims .. and blow the tires up on the steel rims and also use them ..Once they are sealed watertight.. Floating junk is perfect to build on

The birth rate in developed nations is way down, average of 1.8 child per married couple. Maybe in a generation or two, they'll stop assuming that the population is going to explode. It might be hype to make people believe that the economic future is amazingly optimistic, despite signs that our approach is now absolutely unsustainable.

I saw a documentary that said the human population should stop growing at about 9 billion. Then it will be start shrinking. It helps that there are those like me who while living kids still don't want our own. The downside though will be that the aging population might not have enough caregivers.

8:59 "Hey we need to optimize it" Yes you do If land is in great supply, then you optimize for other factors, such as cost, construction time, etc If your engineers are able to only think in terms of a single dimension, ie optimizing for space, then no, it's not a sign of them being overly dedicated or anything like that, it's simply a sign that they have a one track mind

Singapore fortunately, is not situated anywhere near “the ring of fire” & has never experienced any severe earthquakes in its history. Occasionally, some parts of Singapore may feel slight tremors from strong earthquakes located in Indonesia, but nothing “earth shattering.”
@RoxnDox
@RoxnDox Жыл бұрын
@@kismet2354 Hate to contradict, but Singapore is only about 450 miles from the Sumatra Trench, which is well known for generating very large quakes. The very existence of Malaysia and the other islands is due to the Australian Plate subduction under the Sunda Plate and generating volcanic activity. The ‘Ring of Fire’ isn’t limited to just the subduction zones directly around the Pacific Plate. Singapore itself does sit in a relatively quiet area, seismically, of the Sunda Plate, but the engineers would still have take those large quakes into account in their designs. earthquake.usgs.gov/product/poster/usp000f660/us/1538164164214/poster.pdf

If you study some of the middle eastern emirates they sucked up hundreds of shiploads. Of sand off the bottom of their ocean ...-and then they pumped it into giant pile starting on the sea bottom and ending up above the surface of the waves and this is how Singapore could make more land! Also perhaps Large amounts of old rebar rubble and concrete from any kind of Demolition’s can also be disposed of as these things are happening.-& .use the tires ...as earth ships once the ground is Stabilized and habitable Above the surface.. they can create more land ! and then you have to cover it with rubble rock... where are the sand meets the sea...And then if we were to use salt water loving plants .. profusely..they would then r00T down into that material ..and create a root mass super structure ..-that will not erode- away...

It's a theory let's see how practical this is. When storms and tsunami comes it'll be a sight to behold. Lol! And u don't know the platform cost still do u? In land u have to set a foundation plus digging and graving cost that's it. Earthmass holds the houses then. In water u gotta make foundation that don't sink and that's no way cheaper at all rather costlier - for supporting a two storied 3000 square ft house cause a little fish trawler can be nearly as much costly as building a house of above mentioned and this house is a lot bigger than that. U can live in a small house on water though quite conveniently and cheaper. But I don't think u will get bitches that way, forget family.

@@WhiteGeared Around the equator there are no harsh storms and there are other sheltered areas. Tsunamis are only dangerous when they reach land and the wave rides up the shelf at sea they just make boats bob up and down farther than a normal wave. Do you know what a caisson is? A concrete box or tube sealed ether the water is pumped out or it is filled with freshwater and that floats supporting the island structures if they are 300 feet long they act like sea anchors and do not need to touch the seafloor. Lots of women like the sea thousands of young women are sailing around the world right now. Nothing keeping you from meeting a nice lady on land ether.

You could also have restricted population growth.. or is that impossible?

@Laurence Vanhelsuwe, Sure, it's possible. But then, that would be someone dictating the reproductive rights and freedom of others. I am 59, and I've never been married or had any children. And I still wouldn't want to impose that kind of restriction upon others! We are no better than they and we have no claim to any high moral ground in this. People who have to dictate the conditions that others must live by lack real imagination and creativity in their problem solving skills. The fact is that there is plenty of freedom to go around with careful planning and design. Only a lazy fascist dictator would restrict population growth, when there is so much that can be done!

Singapore the highest averaged IQ of any nation (106) Contrast that with the US's (98) Now compare their respective public transport system... Now, wonder why the future is Asian You could say the same for China and South Korea ( both 105) 1979? the year the American dream died...it's been all downhill from there. The Apollo program the dreams epitaph...

instead of going underground due to the crazy number of people alive today, we urgently need to drastically cut the population of the planet. China tried to but even though it would of helped other countries criticized them via tv and radio news. it is something all countries worldwide do and now. living and working underground will require even more energy which thus pollutes the planet even more. there is also the health concern for the citizens due to no sun shine (vitamin d). we today already have a vitamin d deficiency epidemic, going to live and work underground will just make this problem worse.

If they make private cars illegal and provide free public transit that is both comfortable and frequent they could reduce pollution and free up a large portion of existing roads for other uses. That would be much wiser than creating underground highways. In a city state there is no excuse for personal vehicles. I lived without a car for decades in Toronto which actually has a poor transit system but is still adequate to take me anywhere I want to go without the need for a personal car. Any city willing to create a world class public transit system could baan private vehicles easily.

Why build underground? Africa is vast and mostly uninhabited. Build a mega city in a desert for a fraction of the cost of building underground.

I believe TMH, and his words! Hills/mountains are melting, building are being shaken off their foundation, the earth has,is, will be shaken. Even more so. People and lands are experiencing weather that they never had before. The only preparation that can be done is to obey TMH and pray. That is what I believe, if you do not, it is given to you. I do not condemn nor judge you. The action of the earth speaks for itself! It is in front of your face.

In all your ways, acknowledge God who create to be creative and solve your problems, ingenious solutions, who opened your minds, and give you creative insights, don't not trust in the work of your hands, but in God, and you be amused and frightened by your creativity. Failure to do so, there is date for the destruction of you and all your works. Man's / human's duty is to serve God, all other blessing will be added to you. He has destroyed many other civilizations because they have failed, seek him, the creator.
