With a date of 1911, clean, clear water and a pipe around 6 inches diameter, possibly a water supply for steam locos. One of the concrete plinths could have been for a water tank. The concrete pit possibly an ash pit for emptying loco ashpans? Those sort of facilities were everywhere in steam days and they take an age to rot away, so only oldies like me can remember using such things in my youth!

The vertical pipe sticking out of the ground that has a locked cap could be a sampling well to check for signs of pollution. I have seen them a local Superfund sites and they look just like that one. You can check on the EPA website if this is a Superfund designated area.

@@JPVideos81, back in the 1970's when I was a teenager, I went to my friend's grandparent's farm in Newville, Pa. during two different summer vacations. We went swimming at a place called Doubling Gap at Colonel Denning State Park where the water came straight from the mountains. It was wonderful, but the water was FREEZING ! Oh well, when you're 14 years old you can stand anything. Probably not so much anymore. 😄

Culverts carried the Central RR of NJ main line and engine service tracks over the Solomon Creek. The CNJ abandoned their facilities there on March 31, 1972. The lower area when following the creek will take you to the former carshop area (where the RR cars were repaired)

Why does Pennsylvania have so many culverts
@M3322 жыл бұрын
Nice video JP, those concrete bases you all found may have been part of a coal tipple for coaling locomotives, as for the creek it looked so inviting, but there was a lack of minnows swimming about, and yes granted the bridge is over a hundred years old the amount of corrosion of the concrete floor make me wonder if there isn't some sort of acid mine drainage emptying into the creek somewhere up stream, but I digress be safe out there.
@sherrieh20622 жыл бұрын
We have an old sulfur mine in a creek off of a main river channel close to where I live in Pittsburgh….too much acidity in the water for minnows. The water there still has a yellow tinge to it. It’s pretty cool though!
@JPVideos812 жыл бұрын
A tipple is definitely possible. I didnt consider that. I also didnt notice any of the usual orange/rust stains you see with AMD. But I'll definitely have to check the area to be sure.

What an interesting location. I can only guess what the place was and used for. The padlocked pipe is a test well for ground water contamination or migration of contamination from spilled or dumped chemicals. Former business near where I worked has approximately 40 of them in a grid formation. It's paved over and all buildings have been removed. It's now deemed a "brown field" and can't be used for many years from the toxicity (mercury mostly). It's always fun exploring with you Jay (Alan too), Thanks 👍

JP I seen something yesterday I thought you might be interested in. I was looking at Old Film's on 8mm reel's, since I recently inherited my Dad's 8 mm movie projector. And for all the one's about Train's! Some of them looked really interesting. From documentaries to preservation. The majority of them were very reasonably priced. From a couple of dollars to & up. And some were vintage trains in other countries. I even seen some vintage "Our Gang" Film's a.k.a.The little Rascals. When they were black and white and even silent movie's. I was really surprised that a good used 8mm movie projector sells for a lot less than I thought they would be.... $40-$50 buck's.... Then when the weather or time is against you to go Train Spotting, you can do it from home. With a great chance of seeing some you would normally never get see otherwise!!!!
