@@saygoodnight2010 Currently there are no ratings for M855 or M193. Level III is 6 shots of M80 Ball. It's generally accepted Level III steel will stop M855, but will have trouble with M193. Level III UHMWPE will stop M193, but not M855. new RF1/2 standards will address this.

They really cost no more than $2. The first ammo I got in Iraq was a mix of mk318 and m955 in a ziplock bag. The Mk318 rounds were so damaged they could barely feed, I'm not a fan of OTM rifle rounds.
@HalIOfFamer
@HalIOfFamer 3 жыл бұрын
@@Mr12ob did some quick research but its by no means accurate enaugh to br cited If we go by the higher price of tungsten (350 $ per 1kg) then the value of tungsten itself in the bullet is around 3.5$ assuming it has the same volume as a typical 62grain steel core. But unfortunately tungsten price per kg varies from 25$ to 2500$ so its hard to say.

@Vladimir Putin still, if they were as cheap as standard m855a1 they would be issued to everyone, so its safe to assume they are either more expensive or thier balistic characteristics are unsatisfactory. Edit: using the same method it would seem that the price of carbide ranges from 1.5$ per bullet and down depending on the quality of carbide. So safe to assume around 2-2.5$ per full cartrige.

I used to like the green tip ammo. It’s worse than steel case Wolf for accuracy. They also hold together against soft targets, which is the opposite of what you want in a light weight high velocity round. If I had a mill/lathe, I’d make up a bunch of AP 556 using tungsten TIG electrodes. I’m sure it wouldn’t be as hard or accurate but they’d likely pass right through the 1/4” AR500 plates.

I’m curious to see how the 7.62 holds up against lvl 3 armor. I have a guess you could puncture while spending half the cost of a 5.56
@snakeking-zo6mu
@snakeking-zo6mu 2 жыл бұрын
You've either found a really good deal on 7.62, or a bad deal on 5.56. Also you didn't specify which 7.62.
@hasanmichael4966
@hasanmichael4966 11 ай бұрын
Level iii armor is rated to stop typical 223/556, 762x39, a standard 308/762x51 ball round, and 545x39 I think. Not all do, but they are supposed to so they can claim NIJ ratings. With 556 and 308, when you start upping the velocity, lighter bullets or increased pressure, they tend to penetrate level iii. Often iii+ might stop faster bullets. But, with 762x39, the speeds need to reach over 308 velocity and the cartridge just can’t handle that much pressure.
@hasanmichael4966
@hasanmichael4966 11 ай бұрын
With 7.62x39 if you use a hard metal like tungsten you will then defeat level iii body armor. This goes for other calibers as well.

I remember asking a buddy who was a mortarman in the army from 08-12 if he used green tips over seas and he was like what are those? We used black tips. Now i know wtf they were throwing down range. Bad ass video.

I’d be interested in seeing the penetration of a common bullet, like FMJ, at different velocities. Start out at 2500fps with a loaded down 222 and then go up 500fps until you hit 4000 out of a 220 swift or something. Just a thought... On softer steel of course.

For the tarkov players here: Level 3 armor in the US is kinda like level 4 or 5 in Russia. That explains why most ammunition couldn’t penetrate.
@mrkillerful1
@mrkillerful1 3 жыл бұрын
Just a reminder for fellow tarkov players that the Russian Armor levels are different than American. This is level 3 using the American system which in the russian system that tarkov uses this would be roughly between 4 and 5
@Alvah707
@Alvah707 3 жыл бұрын
Yes American armor system goes to lvl 4 as the highest rating so lvl 3 would probably be equivalent to lvl 5 to Russian

I’d guess that green tips are for penetrating through thick wood and brick walls and such. Not steel. Just a guess though

M995 works surprisingly similar to WWII APCR tank rounds. A dense metal subcaliber core sheathed in soft metal like copper or aluminum.

this is a great channel. i know you said they are expensive but what would your thoughts be about taking that m995 projectile and loading it up into a hot 22-250 for 220 swift and shot out of a 24inch or longer barrel. just looking at how you could maximize the armor defeating capabilities of this projectile. and am curious as to how much it could go through. another thought would be to get some light weight 5.7x28AP rounds pull the projectiles and get the velocity up to 4000+ fps by loading them up into the 22-250 or 220 swift as well
