I love this! you just certified my use of the medium heavy 7’2” Rod. My buddies say I was going way too light, but I ended up catching way more fish when I dropped the heavy rod. The frog moves more natural with the lighter braid and rod combo.

Man, this is just what I was looking for. Started fishing the ribit frogs last year and now trying out the hollow body frogs. Lost about 6 or 7 pounder 3 weeks ago because I was using to light of rod and line, weak hookset. I've since upgraded my rod and switched to braid. I love the tip about inserting a rattle.

I totally agree with the rod! I was using a 7 foot broom stick originally but now I have the Dobyns 735c fury and it’s a mod-fast and the slower action works the frog so much better and casts smaller frogs better and like you said when they eat it it creates a needed delay before I set the hook

Great information, Mike. I am going to drop from 65lb to 40lb and hope to get more action out of my frog. I do have 2 different frog rods. I have a heavy and a medium heavy, so you just made me feel good about my choices. Thanks brother!

40lb is perfect. I fish for snakeheads and bass in heavy cover and pull them in no problem.

Hey Mike, have you use Zman Frogz and Pop Frogz? Those soft plastic are floating without weight. Hook set are easy than hollow body frogs. That’s in my opinion and just want to know your opinion on that Zman Frogz?

Could you please do an in the shop explaining colors and when and where to use them. There is pearl, bone, spot remover, mouse, translucent, with and without flakes, so on with all the color combinations
@TexasSi6 ай бұрын
There's so many it's hard to explain them all, so in general the way you can remember what to use is this. Cloudy days in clear or dingy water, use a dark or even black color. On clear days in clear water use white/natural/green colors, on clear days in dingy water, same thing with cloudy days, use dark colors. That's the two main colors at two certain times and water clariety.

Should I get braid for my big rod for my new frog lure or can I use a frog lure with my light tackle and 7 pound black line
@blind_eye_fishing7 ай бұрын
Ive been telling people for years you dont need 65lb braid to fish frogs or any technique around vegetation lol i only use 40lb on frogs and up to 50lb for flipoing. Rod strength depends on company. Some rods come softer than others like dobyns youll want a heavy in those rods. Ark, halo and a couple others have true blanks and those a mh would be fine. My frog rod is a 7'2" lews mh extra fast lol but ill use a heavy sometimes in other brands. I also have a tfo extra heavy mod thats a great frog rod. So like i said depends on company and action of the rod to say wrether you need a mh, h or even extra heavy to ftog fish with.

Oh and I've been like many of the legends I don't fish a faster than 7.5:1 ratio reel. 30 to 32 in per turn is all that's needed and it allows for a easier working of the bait without over doing it or reeling in to much line while working the frog or even a walking bait.

Go for it! I’d say a faster gear ratio would be ideal but otherwise I don’t see why not.
