Please! I love the longform stuff, whether its albums or those songs from different albums things you used to do I love it all. If the gameplay is something you want to keep doing then keep doing it, I don't find it distracting from the reaction at all. So its up to you.

Notes on meaning in the album: The title "Terra Incognita" is Latin for "unknown land" and references a metaphysical concept in Hinduism for the hidden part of a person where a certain divinity is hidden or sealed. From Genius: “1990 quadrillions de tonnes' translates literally to '1990 quadrillion tons[ using the large scale (used in French), which would be “1 octillion 990 septillions” using the short scale (used in English), which is the mass of the sun (or 1.990 × 1027 tons)." With the screams it gives vibes of people being crushed by the heaviness of the Sun. Speculation is that it could represent screaming due to sunburns from ozone layer damage. This is a big issue that we've actually made a lot of work on because nationstates worked together to get rid of the use of what was largely damaging it due to bans of many of the chemicals that were making people concerned. If only there was also this coordinated effort on some of the other large environmental hazards humanity is dealing with. TI was written after the vocalist Joe and his partner had basically spent two years in a cabin away with societal basics like electricity. '04" is a gift from Joe and Mario to their mom for her 50th birthday. The voice message is a message from their uncle greeting her. It originally wasn't meant to be released. This is the first tribute but there are other examples in their discog later to their mom, particularly the entirety of Magma which was an album they ended up dedicating to her as she passed during the making of it. It makes songs on the LP like "Shooting Star" far more poignant. The cover on TI is their guitarist Christian and reflects the inward and very personal look at the self and soul on it. This is a concept that resonates across the Gojira discography. A lot of the album the Way of All Flesh tackles some of that especially as it regards mortality, grief, finding oneself, and of course tackling ecological destruction that is another Gojira staple. "In the Forest" is a perfect example but so are lines like in "Space Time." "So I fix my attention now On this perfect planet revolving around this star" "In the Forest" also has a bit of a hidden song at the end. It's something Gojira also did later on TWoAF. Instrumental passages/songs are also a fairly common Gojira thing as both palette cleanser but also as representative of the particular vibe of an album. There's (1990 Quadrillions de) tons more that one can analyze for TI and Gojira generally but figured I'd add some of it/insight. It's also really fascinating. --- Geebz also references this idea that Gojira fans like the eccentric and weird stuff, completely valid. Anyway, hope this comment added value.

From chops, chord progressions, production, and songwriting, this album is a masterclass in technicality. While the albums general feel is raw as opposed to produced, there's incredible separation between instruments yet everything fuses together. While their newer albums feel more mature, this album is an ice cold display of skill in every form and one of my absolute favorites.

@@eblan1975 короче, для меня The Way of All Flesh - это их апогей тяжести, но не просто, а "мрачной тяжести". Потому что From Mars to Sirius тоже был тяжёлый, но "светлый".

Oh man I'm looking forward to watching this, people forget how Gojira became such a huge deal. It's because even back then when they were much more "traditionally death metal" they already had their unique sound and twist on the genre that made me fall in love with them. I got into them with "The Link" that is very tribal, but Terra Incognita has been my favourite of theirs ever since I got into it and it's definitely in my top 5 metal albums of all times with The Link. Cheers Geebz!

This is Gojira's first full release, when they were youngest and filled with the most unheard anger. Each of their subsequent albums becomes less heavy and more melodic, exploring interesting tonal spaces. It has been interesting to see their progression over time. I Terra Incognita is probably a TAD too brutal for me overall, but I still LOVE dipping into it every now and again :D

This album was my final stop on my Gojira journey (until they release another album) and was totally blown away how amazing it sounds. I was so hesitant at first because my initial previews of it the mix/master sounded toned down and didn't know if it would gel well with everything else they've done that I've loved from them. But seeing that they put out a remastered version of the album was a total revelation, cuz this album is now one of my favorites of theirs. I have a weird relationship with their first two albums because my introduction to Gojira was The Link Alive, which I listened to for months before diving into the actual albums that preceded it. The mix on that live album is so incredible that I don't even bother listening to Terra Incognita or The Link given their thinner production, especially since most of the songs are on the live album anyways. Also, absolutely YES to the Rush vibes. Aside from the polyrhythms/polymeters, the way they structure their songs can be so chaotic and random, but it still somehow just works.

I've dicovered Gojira about 3-4 years ago through their newer, bigger tracks and albums, the first time I heared somthing from Terra Incognita - I didn't like it at all. Compared to what I knew Gojira for (being tracks like Stranded or Flying Whales) it was so... not Gojira. After a few months or a year I gave the album another shot and I'm so happy I did because I absolutely love it. Now I see how Gojira could evolve form TI to an album like Magma. The progression from one to the next one is crazy, but somehow feels right. Many people sleep on Terra Incognita for the same reason I did. If you are one of them, I strongly suggest you give it another try. Another thing is that Gojira doesn't play any of these older tracks live, so people just don't know about them or don't bother looking them up, which is a shame in my opinion. So happy you finally got the chance to hear it all Geebz! Love your input as always!

@user-nk7cy9wb2f Last time anything from The Link was played was in 2017 and this year they haven't played anything from Terra Incognita yet, too rare for my liking ;)

Your reaction is very similar to Mastodon fans, since, like Gojira, they started with super heavy stuff which has mellowed out over the years, and most people got to know them once they had mellowed out more. I'm glad you had that second try at Gojira's roots.

Oh bro this kills me! I came to see your reaction to the end of "in the forrest" (end of the album) as it's my favourite part, and then you thought it was over and just skipped it... Theres like 5 - 10 seconds of silence before the next piece starts and you skipped it argh!!!!

If you want to listen to their, in my opinion, magnum opus listen to From Mars to Sirius. If you want to listen to their next best it's The Way of All Flesh.

I have a crazy request for a really crazy reason. My mom got very ill and isn't great. To get my mind off things I've been buying new music to get emersed in. So i pick an album without knowing anything about the album. Turns out on the song Table Tennis and Galaxy in Janaki by Flying Lotus, he used sounds like his mom's breathing life support... and it was made in memory. How crazy is it to randomly pick an album to forget my problems and it's about them. I'd love to see how you'd react to how he mixes it all together... in table tennis you can hear someone playing table tennis to the beat... and breathing machine

5988 trillions de tonnes is the weight of the Earth if it was put on a scale. The same can be said about 1990 quadrillions de tonnes, which is the weight of the sun. I think the themes for both of them is weight is affecting us as people. It’s supposed to evoke the weight of the sun in some way, according to Joe!

I guess you were waiting for something else, and from the very beginning you got "Terra Incognita", a mix worthy of Cannibal Corpse, some Morbid Angel (Altars of Madnes) vibes and the old Sepultura 🤣🤣🤘🤘🤘 See ya!
