Gohan got such a raw deal throughout Super. This had to happen. From this point on it is his redemption. Proof that he never really was weak, he just had different priorities for a while. Gaining access to his previous power would at least put him ahead of Buu, which is insanely impressive by any measure. Also, he must have pulled that gut punch, or Tien would be a cloud of pink mist.

I'm so proud of Gohan in this arc. The Tournament of Power restored my faith in Gohan after all this time of Super making him into such a joke. Gohan was always a beast and always had great power within but it always gets held back due to his lack of "wanting" to fight. In a way, it was almost similar to the lessons that Vegeta was trying to teach his son Trunks when they were training to fight Black and Future Zamasu.
