It may have been stated before, but Goku is based off the Chinese mythological character, Sun Wukong, also known as the monkey king. This character is usually depicted as an ape-like boy with a magical extending pole, who rides on a cloud.

@Yuriel1981 Additionally Goku's name written in Japanese is 悟空 which is the exact same as Wukong in Chinese. Go and Wu are also Japanese and Chinese for the number 5 (五）respectively, which you can see is a component of the character that makes their name.

Dragon Ball was a gag manga since it was Toriyama's first one since Dr. Slump (which was even less serious than Dragon Ball). It gets more serious as it goes on but it still maintains its gag-anime elements even 'til this day.

The form that Goku took here is called Oozaru (in english Great Ape) Oo meaning King and Zaru (Or more accuratly Saru) meaning Monkey so here he is literally the Monkey King. On Dragon Ball lore ask me anything I'll answer.

I believe she meant to say werewolf as an umbrella term for someone who transforms into a different creature during full moon. Suzy is pretty intelligent as far as I can tell. I'm sure she will catch up with the right name for that form eventually.

Yeah, a lot of people seem to make a point of underestimating Suzy (including herself at times), but she’s a pretty bright spark. (I’ve been following for at least half a dozen years, and have seen a lot of different facets of what makes up the fiery Suzy Lu.) Hell of a lot smarter than the numbskulls who seem to exist solely to criticize her and/or subject her to asinine witch hunts. Granted, that’s a really low bar to pass, but still. The woman is quite sharp, as well as wise. Many of the aforementioned numbskulls could learn a lot from her…if they were capable of learning at all.🙄

They both have an other worldly physical appearance with their blue skin, fangs, and pointed ears. They both have very similar voices but that's because they are both voiced by Chuck Huber in the English FUNimation dub. The only 3 differences between the 2 characters is that Garlic Junior can transform, and was the only one to successfully make his wish to become immortal without any interruptions from the the dragon ball gang.

You made a good point that they gather seven dragon balls so quickly. That is because the story of DB intended to be short, like gathering all balls and that was all, at least for Akira Toriyama. But once the story starts, DB gained so many fans so fast and they kept saying “more story please”. How amazing the story goes on like forever.
