The trick is to have the right mix of equity investment and similar type investments and a % in physical PM. Your age, risk appetite and short term debt will affect your interest or wisdom of buying PM's. Buying PMs is clever if you are debt free, mortgage free, balanced portfolio in place, rainy day cash fund in place, then you should be dipping your toe into physical PM's. I would also add Crypto at that point as well, but pending regulation of Crypto gives me pause as it is so new, unknown and is a competitor to the Central Banks. Gold they understand and keep under control.

Absolutely LOVE the Krugerrand. This was the coin that started it all. This was the coin that made Bullion coins of today what they are. This was first, the rest followed. OK, one could argue that gold Sovereigns were already long established and first at the party. True, but this was the first mass produced 1oz gold coin. The Sovereign is a true legend, but at the same time a bit of an anomaly for modern day "stackers" due to the quantity of gold per coin making it a bit difficult to easily know how much gold you have by simply counting up the coins. The design is simple, well executed, instantly recognised the world over and remains completely unchanged since it began in 1967. Now available in silver too in the exact same design! Great vid my friend, and hats off to the Krugerrand in both gold and silver forms.

22k gold is still inferior to 24k gold, when you're buying metal for the metal value, the cheapest coin makes the most sense. Everything else is just sentimental value of the art / history of the coin.

Btw. The Krugerrand was actually meant for circulation - just as the vintage copper alloyed coins. Also it's the only legal tender (gold) bullion coin not to have a low and ridiculous fictional face value. The value of the Krugerrand is whatever the gold value is - hence no denomination only gold weight.

I appreciate it that you are talking about the Kruggerand. Most Americans don't know about gold so they only buy the Gold eagle. Krugs are known globally, not just in the US. New stackers might not buy them. They have to learn though. Gold is going to become more scarce in the future. If you find a good deal on a krug don't hesitate to buy it. You can sell them anywhere in the world. They are usually in great condition-even the old stock coins from the 70's. I buy them. I will continue to buy them. High premium eagles are for new stackers.

Hopefully you will not have to use this insurance. Its not a get rich quick scheme. You have a lot of skeptism about gold so I suggest that you do not buy any. Stick with the almighty dollar. I'm a long term stacker with 15 years to retirement. Gold makes sense to me as I have all my other investments in place, mortgage paid off, no short term debt and I stack Gold. If I could talk to my 16 year old self I would say start a dollar cost average passive ETF and just let it grow over 40 years. You have something most of no longer have and that's time. Let the magic of compound interest work for you. You don't have to invest big amounts now as time is your friend. This is coming from someone who loves Gold but regrets not have also invested in the markets sooner. You will see many market crashes by the time you retire but over 40 to 50 years you will be up for sure and glad you started young.

Where the Kruggerands and AGE are better in my opinion is that you also get some free copper or silver added to give extra strength and scratch resistance. I started about 50/50 gold & silver (in dollar value), but shifted to mostly silver last year. One thing I have found out is that selling silver privately to others is a lot easier than selling gold and right now it’s easy to sell even generic rounds for $4-$5 over spot. I’m currently underwater on all the gold I bought, unless I could find someone who would pay $100 over spot for maples.

Silver is inferior to gold. It is taxed 20% in the UK - no point to buy as gold is 0% tax. Plus you need a mountain of silver for only a small bag of gold.

Here in Germany the Krugerrand is by far the most popular gold coin. Followed at some distance by the Canadian Maple Leaf and the Australian Kangaroo. No US coin is currently on the top 10 list. When it comes to beauty the Krugerrand is no match for a 24k coin in my opinion but when it comes to investment or wealth preservation it is absolutely a valid option. N my stack there are predominantly 24k coins in the 1oz category while the vast majority of the factional coins are either 22k Sovereigns, 23 2/3k Ducats or .900 Austrian Florins & Kronen.

Dad had some Krugs back in the 80's, so SA gold is not "foreign" to me. Wonderful yet often overlooked; recent years were cheaper than other more popular options but prices are up there now on par with Maples. Cherry-picking key date gold Eagles and Pandas (date/variety collecting, NOT stacking) are popular...just starting to re build tubes of Krugs and a few Maples (damned fragile things). Great video!!!

The very best gold Krugerrands are the very earliest. 1967 through 1989. These 23 years are now highly sought after, are a little higher in price but resale value, as time goes on, will continue to increase.

The 1967 Krugerrand, first of its kind, is now the hardest to find. There was no competitor until 1979, when Canada first issued the gold Maple. Mintages of the Krug increased through the 1980s, compared to preceding decades. And of course, 1990 was the beginning of the end of good South Africa.

You didn't mention it explicitly, but in most European countries (and elsewhere in the world I suppose), you have to pay Value-Added Tax on bars and rounds. For France, Germany and the Scandinavian countries, that's like 15%-25% VAT. But legal tender like coins is exempt from VAT (since you're basically "buying money"). That makes a huge difference. The Krugerrand (or in the local language: "KROO-yer-RANT") is a classic, the grandfather of modern bullion coins. I would actually prefer 22 karat coins because I would not trust myself to handle a .9999 Au coin without stratching it. Plus, the unique fiery-gold colour really sets it apart in a stack.

Liquidity is important to consider based on where you live in the world. I don't mind paying a little more on premium if I know that I'm buying the most liquid resale coin for my region of the world. Local knowledge and good relationship with the LCS or gold company that you bought from pays for itself later when going to sell.

Yes krugerrands are 22ct because of copper added but they contain exactly 1oz of pure 24ct gold this is misleading to some its actually better as it gives the coin more durability the total weight of the coin is slightly more than 1oz factoring in the copper for strengthening, also every bullion dealer in the world recognises krugerrands as the best 1oz gold coin.
