The trick is to have the right mix of equity investment and similar type investments and a % in physical PM. Your age, risk appetite and short term debt will affect your interest or wisdom of buying PM's. Buying PMs is clever if you are debt free, mortgage free, balanced portfolio in place, rainy day cash fund in place, then you should be dipping your toe into physical PM's. I would also add Crypto at that point as well, but pending regulation of Crypto gives me pause as it is so new, unknown and is a competitor to the Central Banks. Absolutely LOVE the Krugerrand. This was the coin that started it all. This was the coin that made Bullion coins of today what they are. This was first, the rest followed. OK, one could argue that gold Sovereigns were already long established and first at the party. True, but this was the first mass produced 1oz gold coin. The Sovereign is a true legend, but at the same time a bit of an anomaly for modern day "stackers" due to the quantity of gold per coin making it a bit difficult to easily know how much gold you have by simply counting up the coins. The design is simple, well executed, instantly recognised the world over and remains completely unchanged since it began in 1967. Now available in silver too in the exact same design! Great vid my friend, and hats off to the Krugerrand in both gold and silver forms.

Love the Krugs. Have a few. Can't take them into NZ, Aust etc tax-free though the way I can Australian nuggets etc due to purity. Something to consider if you want to travel.

You didn't mention it explicitly, but in most European countries (and elsewhere in the world I suppose), you have to pay Value-Added Tax on bars and rounds. For France, Germany and the Scandinavian countries, that's like 15%-25% VAT. But legal tender like coins is exempt from VAT (since you're basically "buying money"). That makes a huge difference. The Krugerrand (or in the local language: "KROO-yer-RANT") is a classic, the grandfather of modern bullion coins. I would actually prefer 22 karat coins because I would not trust myself to handle a .9999 Au coin without stratching it. Plus, the unique fiery-gold colour really sets it apart in a stack.

Thanks for the info! If the Krugerrand's are guaranteed by the South African Mint, how does one sell back to them directly? Or, buy from them directly?

Well I think any gold is awesome however traveling into Canada from the US anything under 95% is taxable at the boarder coming in or going out. So for me that put any coin under that as a no.

So, the Krugs and the American gold eagle must weigh more than one ounce? If they contain impurities.
@TheGroovyJones3 жыл бұрын
Their total weight is 1.0909 troy oz. because of 1 ozt gold and the rest is what they added to prevent scratching. A maple will weigh 1 ozt exactly.

I have been told to stay away from Krugs because there are a lot of fakes about so dealers are less likely to buy them back compared to a Britannia I’m based in the UK so would love feedback about stacking Krugs and future selling within the UK. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I ment that the premiums are variable. Sometimes Krugerrand have less premium and sometimes the kangaroos have less premium so buy the coin with the smallest premium. Still gold. Same product
@gerrykelly-zk6lf2 жыл бұрын
Liquidity is important to consider based on where you live in the world. I don't mind paying a little more on premium if I know that I'm buying the most liquid resale coin for my region of the world. Local knowledge and good relationship with the LCS or gold company that you bought from pays for itself later when going to sell.

Yes krugerrands are 22ct because of copper added but they contain exactly 1oz of pure 24ct gold this is misleading to some its actually better as it gives the coin more durability the total weight of the coin is slightly more than 1oz factoring in the copper for strengthening, also every bullion dealer in the world recognises krugerrands as the best 1oz gold coin.
