If the bedrock is shale, I think the clay comes from rotted out bedrock. It's essentially the reverse of the process that produces shale from fine, sorted sediments in the first place. Where I live, clay comes from sorted glacial deposits and is not trapping any nuggets.

Nice video mate.What I have found very useful in those situations where you are scraping the mud and decomposed rock from the top looking for pickers is an ordinary old water spray bottle.I have found the spray of water sometimes reveals small pickers better than any other method.Another one is the use of a sauce,(ketchup to you) bottle of water.Gives you a stronger flow.Have enearthed a good speccies this way. Toss a cargo net over the rock and tuck the net under the far side. Once you have the net secured under/around the rock, move back to the near side of the boulder. Grab the cargo net and pull it across the top of the boulder, rolling it toward you. You will move bigger rocks with less effort this way.

The fact you are digging in water flow with nuggets suggests that deeper behind that there will be more gold. I have been watching geological videos that show that gold deposits from mineral leaching so where the water is flowing suggests that there should be a lot more, deeper in the same formation.

@AndrewCalhoun6 жыл бұрын
When you get a target with the gold bug it seems like it would be so much quicker if you had a 1 liter plastic scoop you could scoop out about 1l at a time and run under the gold bug. If the scoop triggers the gold bug, divide the contents in half and scan each half. Then divide the half with the target in half again. and see which half has the target. Each time you eliminate half the material you must dig through with a spoon. Of course you can still keep material from under the rock with no target for later panning, later, but you might find the nuggets more quickly. I have never used a gold bug in mud and rocks like this, so maybe it's different, but I have metal detected without a pinpointer, and a method like that helped me quickly locate targets without a lot of meticulous sifting through the dirt. If this can't work in your situation, I am happy to learn something from you. Thanks for sharing; I wish I had access to gold-bearing land. :)
