I appreciate Red Mage coming out to tell his story. However I find parts of it unbelievable, mainly his Origin story. He starts off with saving an injured and abandoned cat so already 80% of the internet has to feel sympathy for this guys heroic act of kindness. Then he says it was his brothers idea for him to do this as a job full time. So it seems that no matter what our opinion of Red Mage is he has already managed to white knight himself and shift the blame of inception onto his brother. Maybe a hot take, but its hard to trust people these days. I believe everything else he says, just not the first 5 mins.

So I understand you're playing devil's advocate here, and that's fine I get it, but I have no reason to think the dude's lying. Because not only is he openly admitting to everything else in the video, but he was directly asked how he got started. I don't feel like it's a rehearsed/please-feel-bad-for-me answer ready to go, especially given that he didn't milk the situation nearly as much as he could've. Seems like he was asked a question, and answered it in the same way he answered every other question - thoroughly, directly and (presumably) honestly. I say presumably because all of his other answers don't appear to have a possible motive to imply the possibility of him lying. Also keep in mind this was 16 years ago, and while we obviously don't know the guys age, he sounds like somebody who wasn't exactly a sage 16 years ago. So his older brother stepping in to point out his job situation in comparison to what he was able to make via selling gold makes sense.

It was literally that. Said cat is gone now but he was my best buddy. As for blaming my brother; oh there are LOTS of things I could legitimately blame on that idiot. Everything from overdrafting my bank account, blowing up the water heater and inviting drug riddled homeless people over under the guise of a "boyfriend"(hes not the sharpest knife in the crayon box). But the blame of gold farming lies squarely on my shoulders. I took an opportunity to help a family member(my cat) and decided to continue well past the point I needed to. Does it make me a monster in some peoples eyes? Yes, it does. Do i regret some of it? Also yes. At the end of the day none of us are perfect. I did a bad thing to get ahead and accept any hate I get for it.

MetaGoblin I don't think you play on private servers, but I've been playing on TWoW, and there seems to be a sentiment that Torta and the TWoW devs are bulletproof. They have this line that they will set up new servers elsewhere. Obviously most WoW players have zero idea how litigoous Microsoft is regarding piracy. If they want to include WoW in gamepass they WILL protect their assets. It's ridiculous to think Microsoft will let any amount of earnings get past them. As someone who majored in corporate finance, I wrote a paper on IP and the internet, and Windows 95 piracy in China; I know the lengths Microsoft will go to, to prevent theft of their IP. A lot has changed in the IP space as it pertains to the internet, and I'm sure Microsoft has evolved dramatically in their treatment of IP protection in the past 25 years. I'd love to see a video on this subject, but I'm not talented enough to make one on my own.

@@rambosilek7052 I'm happy for you!!! I just think it is important to recognize that no king rules forever, and even the most powerful private servers can be shut down. Managing expectations is one of the things you learn as you grow older, and I don't want a lot of people to have the characters they worked so hard to build, gone. "Everything is fine" is not a life philosophy I recommend. Hope for the best, but expect the worst. Telling people there is no chance of being shut down is a great way to sell donation goods on the donation page, but it is a recipe for a lot of disappointed gamers. From what I've found out about the TWoW devs, I don't think they care all that much, and it's a fool that puts so much faith in men shown to be masters of greed and manipulation.

And before you say "more human GMs!!!!" I agree that would be great, but it won't solve the problem. This guy literally told a story about how 1 GM spent multiple days dicking around and failed to catch a gold seller. The community has normalized buying gold, and the result is the slow destruction of classic. At least retail is fun...

I was buying gold pretty often, dunno how they got my account info but obviously I didn't have an authenticator, logged in one day and they not only cleaned me out but the bank for the Guild I was in. I have no problems with the story this guy is selling. If an actual person farming gold and selling it, whatever. In my mind no different than having your guild farming scarab lord carapaces for you. The bots and the wow token are why I stopped playing both times now. (Also I don't 100 trust this guy has never botted in his life. He tips his hand so many times "I WAS against botting" and "I still have my original account" instead of answering "I've never been banned"... And admitting to botting in other games...)

Nope, never botted. I got out of the game because the only way to keep pace was to do so. That kinda cheating never sat right with me. Mind you I am the kinda guy that would tape down a button on my snes controller if a game was excessively grindy. Key difference is doing that only is single player, it hurts no one botting in a game hurts everyone. Also if you are referring to eve online, no that was manual as well, eve however is really slow paced an you only need to check it like every 30 mins or so.

I stopped sellin gold like 4 years ago in WoW. To many Chinese botters running 24/7 with fly hack scripts and stolen credit cards to buy wow subs when they get banned. they hacked so much gold they brought the price down to next to nothing not worth the time anymore like it used to be.

For easy WoTLK gold (maybe it's changed since I quit): Solo heroics for D/E mats, make the expensive enchants (sp power etc.) sell those. I was making 10k gold in wotlk easy every day. I was soloing as a paladin in a few pieces of badge gear and a couple raid pieces. I was not full BiS. I imagine it's far easier now if you get the newest badge gear, which should be easy to get.

@@xXImbaFuryXx Soloing heroics you should be getting a metric tonne of cloth, make bandages, sell on the AH. People tend to be lazy and dumb so count on that. If you have gathering professions never sell just mats, find something that uses the materials you can then sell. I had a mining alt, tailoring, and alchemy alt (transmutes and potions add up), get as many AH programs as you can. Learn how to use the AH addons properly, and learn to watch the prices of items you tend to get a lot of (from gathering or doing dungeons). A lot of times ppl sell stuff on the AH for far less value than they are worth, so you can do that (that's more of a time consuming strategy requiring AH knowledge). Honestly I was making so much gold from D/E mats and the High Level enchants, that I had no need to do anything else.

@@xXImbaFuryXx oh also if you git good, solo world bosses, they drop around 300g (I think) and a few purples that still sell. Depending on your server this may be easier than done. I was able to solo the big world boss in TBC near black temple. I know people were duoing Lord Kazzak as well. Kara is another relatively easy farm where you can also pick up lots of D/E mats, including enchant: mongoose (was bis or near bis still for many tanks). There are LOTs of videos showing you how to farm Kara efficiently. As for the world boss, good luck, it took a lot of luck to get him before someone else killed him (or griefed you during the fight).

@@xXImbaFuryXx btw the EASIEST by far Heroic to solo in WoTLK was Gundrak, where you could skip a lot of trash, and the final boss was a complete joke. An easy crystal. If soloing use all the tricks, invisibility potions are especially useful. I found Culling of Strath. to be fairly easy, EXCEPT it took me a while to figure out how to kill the first boss. On KZbin SubtleFW is the best paladin tank for tips and tricks. He has videos on himself soloing every WoTLK heroic, and has lots of tips on weak auras and consumables you will need. And you will need consumables.
