Actually Thats NOT true. They have Lots of Footage not use. Lots of Red 12, that they never put into the movie. ONLY his explosion for RED 10. FYI The scenes for Biggs and Porkins were filmed in Rogue One. You can blame Gilroy for removing them. FYI first time you saw Biggs and Porkins was on Edu. Then on Scariff. Please type Biggs and Porkins Rogue One on Google and you will find them.

Gold Leader was one of my favourite characters when I saw the movie at a very young age. He still is, the way he's so cool under fire and entirely focused on the task at hand: Staying on target and letting his escort deal with threats.

During Rouge One in the IMAX theater, when I saw Gold Leader appear....I almost lost it. A part of me wanted to yell at the top of my lungs "it's Gold leader from A New Hope!!!!!" I pumped my emotional brakes and just settled for a tear of happiness, clenching my arm rests. Ok I didn't shed a tear, but my eyes did get glossy af, lol.

Could have used them if suitable footage existed and a voice actor who matched their voices could be found. Pop's to give Gold 5's original handle, I would love to have seen. Tarkin was an important person in the story, but the CGI though impressive is still nowhere near good enough. What a lot of people don't realize is the human brain has two sight recognition parts genetically hardwired in it. One is purely for recognizing the human face and its expressions, while the other is for everything else (there was a BBC Horizon / PBS Nova documentary that covered the subject a few years ago that covered the subject and the problems that some people had when that part of the brain got damaged by a Stroke or other head injury). Needless to say all people are different and a few can't notice the difference between CGI and real life faces, but most people can unless the CGI is 100% perfect in both texture and movement,

The first conversation between Gold leader and Gold five is about the surface based defences they are facing. These lines are ripped straight out of the Dambusters film (and according to the books that the film were based on where actually said during the opening attack on the Monhe dam between Guy Gibson and his rear gunner, Richard Trevor-Roper. Trevor-Roper was the oldest member of the crew and also the squadron's gunnery officer, so he was the expert in that matter). There is also the fact that Gold leader's job is to lead the attack and concentrate on putting the torpedoes on target, so having a subordinate deal with the threats behind is doing something any good lead does, spread the workload between competent officers.

Gold leader is clearly panicking after his wingman gets shot down. Gold Five is trying to calm him down. Angus McInnes (who played Gold Leader) said that when he showed up to film his part, George Lucas had changed the order of the lines and wouldn't give him a vocal cue, so he had to read the script off his lap (which is why you sometimes see his eyes looking down). He was completely nervous the whole time and had a pretty shitty time during filming. I kind of wonder if Lucas messed him around on purpose to get him panicking like his character was supposed to be.
