I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this as well but I find that our contemporary western culture heavily weighs in favor of the extrovert personality type whereas introversion is highly underappreciated, to a fault undoubtedly. Somehow I believe that certain pathologies in our culture can be traced to this particular lack of balance in the valuation of these personality types. The cesspool of trashy and soulless content on TikTok is, to my mind, a stark example of superfluous hyper-extraverted energy that is likely to harm the minds and souls of young people coming of age today. Just an observation an opinion of mine after a bit of musing.

You are correct. Extroversion is favored in many aspects. Work and educational. I've read about that in the book by Susan Cain "Quiet." Introverts are under served market :) Being introverted myself I find peace in knowing there are more off my kind out there. Eventhogh we don't seek company of each other and might not meet in real life. 🙂

Yes, the world was built for the extrovert, our modern day classrooms, gathering places, religious places. Like why should we seat students together instead of apart from each other, it’s cause we assume people thrive through conversing with one another but what about for those who work best on their own. You can’t win in a extroverted world as an introvert

This video explains well how an introvert can become immersed in something they enjoy and act more extroverted. I'm a introvert but also very outgoing, but only when in an environment I'm familiar with, and always struggled to explain this. In new places, or around a lot of people, I become overstimulated and close up, often getting lost in thought.

Modern idea of an "introvert" is kinda wrong and dangerous,you're not an introvert you just have social anxiety.An introvert values internal things while an extravert values outer things.At the time of jung all types would go outside and work and socialize,you can't just stay at home and put the blame on your personality type.Oh and you can change your type and become an extravert.Introvert and extravert ARE NOT ONLY SOCIAL CONCEPTS they affect EVERYTHING in your life all the way from the smallest decisions you make up to the biggest things you are willing to sacrifice and all in between,it's way WAY too broad for you to just say "I like to stay at home so I am an introvert" that's not how it works.

Understanding your own and the other person's dominat function is paramount in dealing with obstacles in the development of any relationship. Knowing how to direct one's explanations about the problem and knowing what actually are obstacles and what aren't, (a.i. what constitutes the person's uniqueness which can be cultivated and harvested) will save so much time and turmoil. Of course, it's impossible to deal with people who are too extremely low on openness or high on narcisism, so it's very wise to know yourself and to learn to identify traits which are pathologically extreme and save your efforts.

I don't disagree, but I believe in the opposite. We need to understand our unconscious functions most of all. That's the whole crux of Jung's philosophy and psychology: understanding the unknown parts of ourselves.

If you want to become a psychologist, please know that 100 years later the field has grown far beyond where Jung left off in 1961. One might explore Jung and his meanings for years and not get to the psychological discoveries of the 1970’s and ongoing from there. If Psychology interests you, pair your interest in Jung with modern understandings from Cognitive Behavioral Psychology and the affective concepts in Emotional Intelligence. All three, Freud, Adler, Jung, were products of their time, made valuable contributions for their day, and were pioneers. But pioneers, scouts, and explorers do not build cities. Settlers do. By the 1980’s the field of study known as psychology had begun to settle, firm up, coalesce, honor the founders but go beyond them. Personally, I believe Jung himself who as he matured called himself a medical psychologist would have applauded such growth. If you study psychology, take care to study the last 50 years of the field, not just its historic antecedents. Otherwise you will become like someone who says “I want to be a physician-but I’m not going to study anything from the last 62 years.” Jung died 1961.

As a male, that day I found out I was an INFJ, was a life changing moment for me. I had been a sales rep, desperate to live an Extroverted existence and when my whole life fell apart at 24, I went in search for answers. I am now almost 34, have made music my profession, and have been blessed with an amazing life this past decade. The more I've lent in my trait preferences, the closer I feel to my authentic self and feel like I'm home.

I scored the same typology. Unlike you, I'm accutey aware of my introversion. Due to great passion, I entered politics. The extroverted part of it often makes me feel exhausted. I keep thinking I will quit but the good I can achieve drives me to continue. I might quit most of it, though. I long to garden and see oceans and ancient places. At best, I have 49 summers left in this life... Maybe 15 with full mobility and cognitive function.

I guess I just want somewhere to share my story. When I was 19 I took shrooms, and it was like I was turned inside out. As a child, I was very extroverted and loved being around people. And after the shrooms, I felt disconnected from everyone and everything around me. I just wanted to alone. I am learning to feel happiness from within myself, not running from myself. It’s been a LONG and PAINFUL process but once it’s healed, it’s healed and beautiful.

A couple of years ago, I made a crazy video where I painted my face with a black marker and screamed like a madman, "paint when you are sick, paint when you’re hungry, paint when you’re tired, paint, paint, paint and paint." The profound wisdom behind this madness is to train yourself to be disciplined and to work on your creative work, even when you don't feel like it. This applies to all kinds of creative work, not just painting. I recommend doing something crazy just to keep yourself busy, like pouring out paint onto paper and moving it around with your bare hands. The end result doesn't matter as much as the act of doing it. Of course, I have to force myself to get out of bed, make coffee, and vacuum my place. I have to force myself to call a friend, just because I promised I would. If you only do what you want in life, you'll end up screwing up your life. Often you need to do what must be done, even if you don't feel like it. But this is your destiny. You can’t fight your destiny. The key is to develop brutal discipline, to keep pushing yourself even when you're not motivated, and to keep creating using the force of nature within yourself, for it is bigger than you. Remember, it's not the outcome that matters as much as the process of living creative life.

I recall watching an interview with the Jungian Analyst Robert A. Johnson, and he spoke about his initial one-on-one encounters with Jung. Johnson, who describes himself as an introverted feeling type, noted that Jung spoke to him in a gentle and reassuring manner, encouraging through positive affirmation, easing him into the analytical process little by little. However, when Johnson had encountered Jung outside of his office his projection was shattered. Johnson was confused, its as if Jung was a different person with him than others. However, after some reflection and chewing some nourishment out his projection, Johnson had realized that what Jung was doing was speaking his typology or rather communicating with him in his language. He noted that had Jung treated him like some of the other students/colleagues he wouldn't have been able to take it. His ego was not yet strong enough and Jung realized this more than likely through a sense of intuition. What I take from that story is that if one is able to truly dialogue with another's typology they are embracing a nuanced sense of empathy, and empathy rich with curiosity, which undoubtedly sets off a deeper curiosity for oneself. Much love and thank you for all the work you do.

I've always been an advocate of introversion being underrated. And yet, an introvert must himself become an extrovert to make his two halves whole. Because in reality one is neither introverted nor extroverted, but rather, one creates the experience of intro- or extroversion through limiting one's behavior a certain way. That limiting having happened mostly during childhood of course. And yet we never do question ourselves, we never see that there are other ways to be but our own. We never have the courage to discard our own opinions and interests in the face of the unknown.

what a perfect subject for this video! i’ve been enveloped in the world of typology (jungian types, mbti, socionics, enneagram, etc) for a year now; and although much of the systems are only pseudoscientific theories, these studies have much merit and often allows one to discover more about themselves.

Almost everyone I've met are extroverts & they expect me to behave that way too. I want space, parties/gatherings are not my thing, apparently upsets them. I know many talk behind my back, calling me names like "weirdo". I don't understand why they cannot just let me be like i let them be. I've never asked them to change even though they become overbearing time to time with their extroverted energy. At this point I've learned my lesson to totally stay away from extroverts. They drain me.
@robynmeyer7796
@robynmeyer7796 Жыл бұрын
You are right…extroverts are draining…I think it’s because they run empty on the inside. It’s their way of refuelling. Thank you for your beautiful words… Just be yourself, be kind to yourself and whistle your own tune through life. If other people don’t like it, that’s their problem…the more others they try to shape me the more I’m true to myself. You, as an introvert, have incredible inner strength…when you recognise this, you are blessed with the power of choice and wisdom…it’s the essence to freedom. I am an introvert…I love my own company and there’s nothing nicer than being true and honest to myself. It’s not hiding in darkness, it’s like tasting the moon and riding the wind and soaking up the peacefulness of the soul…it builds intuition and provides opportunity to plan and understand and think for myself. I run from no man…I bow to no man…and I guide my own ship.

Speaking as a grad student in psych/counseling, this video is a gold mine of knowledge for anyone wanting to understand jungs theory of personality or ways to understand themselves and others. Very well done on this one. Will be listening again.🤓💯

I express my gratitude for the publishing this and similar videos to the society, they are very helpful for the broad auditory of people. Many years ago when I studied at the unversity I was told by my psychology teacher that I belonged to the rare type but unfortunately it was told with some deel of negativity and it left something like a dust of sadness on my soul. I've done a test and I've received INFJ personality result so it helps me understand myself better without any negative prejudices so that I could handle the hurdles, choose the correct career path and so on. Yes, I am naturally very intuitive. Many thanks!

I scored INTJ A, but I feel I can be extroverted also. I never conform to the labels, I take them and become my best. I like my alone time for contemplation, and I like my social life for its feeling, genuineness. I think anyone can be anyone as long as they try to be. Peace, wealth, and health to all.

There's a stillness between outwards and inwards - Like a slung stone's halting of upward momentum before accelerating downwards. In the human mind it's like a trans/flow. Through the extrovert lens it could be standing your ground. For introvert the moment between a question and speculation. But really it's kinda the limit between ones' waves of intr/outr, between where focus goes from thinking to feeling etc. Just extending the extrovett/introvert spectra. It's a chill place to be. I think the time there extends with meditation.

Don’t want to tread on the same grateful words that many others have said to you since you’re obviously a very busy man, so I’ll keep it brief. You’ve helped me more than anyone has in my entire life, spanning now into early 20’s, with only a year of me hearing what you have to say and teach. Thank you infinitely, or I suppose uh, eternally.

I feel like we have the potential to have multiple personalities and control and use them in the right situation. I feel like my bloodline are living through me, my ancestors are the voices in my head or my subconscious. What I’m saying is if you are one of those personalities people don’t like call upon your ancestors that everyone like then if you feel like you being used call upon your ancestors that wasn’t afraid to speak its mind. We have the this mind that we can become whoever we want if we only think it and the universe will respond to those thoughts

I'm so introverted that if I leave the house and or socialize with anyone for at least 30 minutes or sometimes less, I would get so drained that I will take a nap as soon as I get home. I hate working anymore because of it. Recently about two weeks ago, I hadn't worked in a long time, then had to work a 10 hour shift. When I got home I slept for 13 hours. I didn't nap the day that I worked.

omg! even jung's example of intro/extroversion is at odds with his descriptions. i can't be the only one to notice that in over 100 years. do you people just believe anything attached to a name?

This lead us to interesting personality battle Who would likely dominate and control the other since introverts recently started to get free from the inferiority complex driven by the extroverts domination for many decades and labeling themselves as the normal personality type,the human psychology will be witness a major shift if we start to investigate the labeled normal personality and its relation to mental illnesses

The very notion of personality as a fixed psychic structure of being denotes essentialism. Whereas existentialism, which suggests we are born first and then derive meaning, denotes personality as a consequence of experience and choice, making it more akin to habit than destiny.

I always thought of myself as being an introverted person but I still can't quite figure out if I am more on the feeling or the thinking side. I have always believed I am more on the feeling side and this has brought me nothing but sorrow growing up, but when I started sort of negating the feeling side and developing on the thinking side I started feeling more like myself, like my true self, or at least felt better. I don't want to deceive myself into thinking that haha so how does my situation seem?

It is the psychological storm that reminds us why we seek shelter; our lives in the physical could very well be the subtle acting themselves out. It's the eye of the storm that bears witness, not victim. Calm, yet shocked witness- you have the strength. Inner and outer mirrored, kept steady by the unbiased awareness. Make peace with the inner creation first, for it is the closest. Enjoy :)
