Lara clearly won the first 3 rounds before Canelo wised up and started going to the body. From that point on it was a pretty even fight. But too late. He'd already fallen behind 3-0. I had Canelo and Lara splitting the other 9 rounds 4-5, either way. Lara won either 8-4 or 7-5. Most of you people have no idea how to actually score a fight. Or worse, aren't being objective at all... typical of Canelo fanboys. I just watched his 3 fights with GGG. He clearly lost fights 1 & 2, 117-113 (7-3-2), and 116-114 (6-4-2) respectively. The 3rd fight was a draw, 115-115 (5-5-2), when GGG was 40 and clearly lacked the stamina to go hard for a full 12 rounds anymore. But Canelo still couldn't do quite enough to win... not really, anyway. Except for on the fixed cards. No other boxer in history has been carried like this guy. Lara just went there to pitter pat. Doing the bare minimum. Canelo was throwing combinations, body shots, his punch variety was much more appealing to the judges. I do think he edged it out. Lara was throwing punches as if he was throwing punches at hung paper, (that is something Bruce Lee did in case anyone did not know) You can’t win a fight throwing jabs and the occasional 1-2 or the 1-2-1and at times literally running. Yes, agreed. I’ve seen much debate on this but Canelo showed more effectiveness overall and also was the aggressor. Lara fought an entire fight in retreat which was an incomplete strategy because it detracted from him being able to mount an effective offence. He and Khan (for 5 and a half rounds) got the closest to pulling off what Floyd had done, but there’s only one Floyd.

Lara lost this by being too passive, he was just surviving, making Canelo miss plenty but not making him pay. He would be winning a round on my card, but end up throwing it away by sidestepping for the whole final minute while Canelo dug away at his body. There are 3 minutes in a round, you can't fight for 2 minutes and take the last one off.

Are you really surprised? When you're fighting a Mexican, with Mexican judges, and they're literally playing salsa music in the background... you probably have to knock him out to win. And even then you better get him down for 15 seconds because there will be no sense of urgency to count to 10. Lara won 7-4-1 on my card. Being aggressive and displaying ring generalship are two entirely different things. Lara stuck and moved all night, landing that crisp 1-2. Canelo adjusted in the 4th and started wisely working the body. From then on it was an even fight but Lara took at least 2 of the first 3 rounds. All 3 imo.

Lara took 3 rounds from the door before Canelo started going to the body and made it a fight. That would mean you have him winning every single round after that. Only he was dominated in 2 of those rounds. Must be bias, and/or you don't really understand how to score a fight. Like most people. I'm a fan of the sport. I don't really have an individual fighter I'm in love with these days. The last ones to fit the bill were Mike Tyson and Roberto Duran. I'm guessing you weren't even alive to see their dominance.

@M B I just watched the fight yesterday, and you're full of shit. One commentator didn't even really pretend he knew much about how to score a fight. But remarked several times he thought Lara was winning the fight. The other one, clearly biased for Canelo, would try to come up with asinine rationale for why a judge would see it differently... knowing damn well Lara probably needed a KO to win. And that then as a result the people at home, most of which have no idea how to score a fight either, would be oblivious to the fact that the decision was *worked* as they say. They do this all the time with big draws, Canelo more than anyone. They did it during the first GGG fight too... somebody won 9 rounds that night. It just wasn't the guy they gave the decision to.

That's just a flat out lie to try to distort reality. 2 of the rounds were so dominant for Lara that even he couldn't spin it. He gave Lara probably those 2 and the first 3, and had the fight 7-5 Canelo. Meaning, naturally, that he gave every single close round to Canelo. Lol... how convenient.
