Oh my, the tones you're getting with Gold 200 with that light and subject are just beautiful. Reminiscent of the Kodak print ads years ago. My favorite way to shoot Gold is keeping a point and shoot tucked in my pocket and only bringing it out in the last light of the day. Thank you for sharing this. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Danke!

It was a pleasure to see this video and photos of Lisbon, the city where I was born and live. In fact, nothing like a good street photo session in the old Lisbon center, with its points of interest scattered by a large area, full of ups and downs, to replace several gym sessions. Despite living here for many years, and the city is losing many of its traditions, gradually replacing its lifelong shops and restaurants for international business, very tourism-turned, it is still very often that I pick up a camera and go to these places, without a fixed destination, just enjoying the ride, the view and, taking some nice shots. I have used the Kodak Gold 200 a lot, I consider it gives me the best colors and definition option, after Proimage and Ektar, which I couldn´t find for sale, for quit a few monthes. Thank you Karen, for all the good times you share in your videos. Grretings from Lisbon. Ricardo

I am sure you have a totally different look on the city as a foreigner as a tourist like me. Really enjoyed watching. Nice photographs. Given time enough you would see ‘we’ aren’t so camera friendly as it might seem. I’ve had some experiences of that. Btw, Lisbon is a 2,9-3million people city, 500 000 is just the core, the municipality, and wikipedia doesn’t check that.

Hi.. can you tell me some of the settings you use for shooting with kodak gold 200 such as here please?
@KarinMajoka Жыл бұрын
The key thing is to shoot the film as if it was an iso 100 film. That way you will overexpose it slightly and the color will look pretty clean and pastel.

@KarinMajoka Жыл бұрын
Thank you! :) Well, I also check my exposure in-between shots while walking. And every time I step into the shadows or the light I automatically adjust my setting so that my aperture and shutter speed are set ready all the time. Thank you very much! From what I could see on my iPad, it seems to me that the Portra 400 you used earlier could handle deep shadows and highlights a bit better. Is this true? To cut costs, I am trying Vision 3, with an 85b filter outside. My first film turned out quite well in high res scan, but definitely needs editing. Much too flat. So more boring work with the computer. Many pictures were taken with the Leica MP, Voightländer Ultron 35. Do you have an opinion on these cheaper ram back ECN6 films?
@KarinMajoka2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think Portra has a bigger latitude and can handle the extreme end of the exposure spectrum better. But I was surprised how well Kodak Gold could keep up, regarding it's half the price. I like motion picture film for photography and used a couple of different Vision 3 options - but good development and good scans are crucial.

Still learning film photography so forgive me if this is a silly question - but when you say you shot at 100 on the first roll did you still get it developed as normal or was there any alterations with that?
@KarinMajoka Жыл бұрын
It's not a silly question at all! In my case I just decided to overexpose my film, which means that I will expose it as a lower ISO to give it some extra light but will develop it normally. Another thing people like to do is to "push" or "pull" film: here you will shoot it at another ISO but will compensate for that in development.
@mattpshields Жыл бұрын

@@KarinMajoka it definitely works very well in the warm light of Portugal. At the end of the 80th, my personal photography drop in date, the Kodak gold was the poor man’s film, also the brand Orwo. If your student budget was big enough, you take the Fuji Velvia 50. but times are change.
@thorstenjaspert93942 жыл бұрын
I Like the Kodak Gold colour. It makes the golden hour a bit more golden. In bright daylight it warms the light up, shadows don't become ugly bluish. The Portra 400 is too neutral, nearly digital clean. Quiet without own character. The scanability of the Gold could be better. The resolution could be a bit higher. All in all nice pictures.

Some constructive criticism: I feel like you use the ''spray and pray'' technique too much. Not sure if it's linked to filming content at the same time but I feel that some more careful shooting would lead to pictures with more impact/stronger narrative. Also, if you're going to do street photography, get in there! often you shoot people from a distance. You have the chance to be a woman with a smallish camera, you should take advantage of that. Cheers.
@KarinMajoka2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. But I don't "spray and pray" - it literally means to use the burst mode on your camera, shoot dozens of photos in seconds and hope that there is something useful. I am sure there is plenty of room to improve my street photography, so I am generally always open to feedback. But to be honest in this session I am rather happy with my compositions and distances to my subjects and I cannot think of many photos where I wished to be closer. Street photography style is subjective, so your style might not be mine.
@gibcoprobe662 жыл бұрын
@@KarinMajoka Thanks for the explanation but I know exactly what spray and pray is... And yes, you can do it with a film camera... As you said it's all subjective; I feel like you do and that your composition is not always optimal but if you like it, that's what matters in the end, isn't ? You do you Boo Boo...
