Golden Pineapples from my brother's pineapple field, time to make tasty Delicacies!| Traditional Me

How time flies as suddenly it was the harvesting time of brothers pineapple field. Usually the pineapples will be harvested on the exact time when the fruits are getting yellowish since they are for selling. So by the time they were sent to the market each fruit have become perfectly ripe. Both my brother and Lahiru brother was very busy and worked hard by collecting the harvest from their pineapple field for past week. It’s very common in our village, Dankotuwa to grow pineapple in the coconut plantations. Even grandmother got the pineapple cultivation done when she was in charge of the lands. Now our brother has taken over that role. Infact I requested brother to not to cut off the pineapple crops on the edge of the land but to let them ripe fully. It’s a known fact that the pineapples get sweet and luscious when they get ripen naturally while in the pineapple bush itself with that sweet fragrance intoxicating the entire area. When this heavenly fragrance starts floating in the air, it sends an instant invitations to squirrels, porcupines, pigs and rats to feast on these luscious tropical fruits. These fruits get safe guarded mainly because of the thorns of the pineapple tree barks. Actually these thorns are a nuisance where our hands always gets confronted with them while picking up the pineapples. In our house, there is a special knife with about 2-3 feet in length to cut them off. This special knife is been made with a curve edge in the tip where the pineapple stems get cut off very easily without damaging the hands.
Together with about 7-8 ripe pineapples, I brought home two partly raw ones too. I always make jam if there are extra pineapples at home. I always prefer to make my jams by caramelising the sugar so that it gives the jam a rich golden brown in color. I had some kiwi fruits at home which was brought by uncle Siriwardena. I decided to make another batch of jam by cutting the kiwi fruits and mixing them with a portion of already cooked pineapple jam to make another different type of jam. Kiwi and pineapple taste is indeed a match made in heaven.
What ever said and done, it’s nothing like having a pineapple slices sprinkled with salt, pepper and a dash of chilli powder. Trust me that taste is indescribable. But when it comes to our brother, his only satisfaction is eating the pineapple core. Upto today I wonder what is so fancy that my brother finds in chewing the hard middle core of the fruit. There were times when Brother used to snatch the hard core of the pineapple and runs off.
Brother brought an unusual drink to me while I was making the Jam. As usual it’s not a secret that his unusual imaginations and unusual cooking recipes truly taken us by surprise. When mixed with thick coconut milk, his drink gave a taste buds tingling mango deliciousness. Pineapple is a known tropical fruit which tend to increase the body heat but coconut milk reduce the heat and balances it perfectly. I must have tasted brother's drink so heavenly, may be because of my tiredness after finishing off the jams.
Since it’s the rainy season with intermittent showers throughout the day, going out is impossible. So I decided to make a tea time sweets to go with the evening tea. After cutting pineapple in to pieces, I sautéed them in ghee and mixed them with a mixture of semolina and jumbo peanuts. Then put the rich moist mixture into a medium container where I scattered some raisins and sultanas into the bottom. Once the well pressed mixture turns upside down it sure did give a very appealing look and a taste as well. The rich fragrance and the texture of the ghee gave an authentic taste of Indian sweets. But more than that, I was very happy and pleased when I saw how Grandmother and Brother enjoyed the tea time sweets with such a satisfaction on their faces.

Watch all videos - playlist kzbin.info/aero/PLmz2QxbXLPGQaN9z12hwoxxqQz4YvIf87 English description is in the description box | ඔන්න අපේ මල්ලිලගේ අන්නාසි වගාවෙ අස්වනු නෙලන කාලෙත් ආවා. විකුණන්න බලාගෙන කරන වගාවක් නිසා අන්නාසි ගෙඩිය කහපාට වෙන්න ඔන්න මෙන්න තියෙද්දි තමයි අන්නාසි අස්වැන්න නෙලන්නෙ. එතකොට වෙළඳ පොලට යද්දි අන්නාසි ගෙඩි ගානට ඉදෙනවා. අපේ මල්ලියි ළහිරු මල්ලියි දෙන්නම පහුගිය සුමානෙ දවස් ගානක්ම කලේ එයාල මහන්සිවෙලා කරපු අන්නාසි වගාවෙ අස්වනු නෙලන එක තමයි. දංකොටුව අපේ ගම්පලාතෙ පොල් ඉඩම්වල අන්නාසි වගාව කරන එක සාමාන්‍ය දෙයක්. අත්තම්මත් ඉඩ කඩම් බලාකියාගන්න කාලෙ අන්නාසි වගාව කෙරෙව්වා. දැන් ඉතින් මල්ලි තමයි ඒව හොයල බලල කරන්නෙ. අස්වනු නෙලන අතරෙදි මගේ ඉල්ලීම නිසා ඉඩමෙ කෙලවර ගස් ටිකක අන්නාසි අස්වැන්න හොඳටම ඉදෙනකන් නොකපා හිටියා. ගහේ ඉදෙන අන්නාසි ගෙඩිවල තමයි හොඳටම රස තියෙන්නෙ, ඒ වගේමයි සුවඳත්. හැබැයි ඉඳුන අන්නාසි සුවඳ වටේම පැතිරෙන නිසා ලේනා, ඉත්තෑවා, ඌරා, මීයා වගේ කැලෑවල ඉන්න සතුන්ගෙන් නම් අන්නාසි ගෙඩි වලට ගැලවීමක් නෑ. ටිකක් හරි බේරිල්ලක් තියෙන්නෙ අන්නාසි පිතිවල තියෙන කටු නිසා තමයි. ඒ කරදරේ නම් මොකට කියනවද. අනනාසි ගෙඩියක් අතින් කඩන්න ගියොත් අපේ අත්වලටත් කටු ඇනිල කරදර වෙනවා. ඒ හින්දම අපේ ගෙවල් වල අන්නාසි අස්වනු නෙලන්නම හදව ගනිපු අඩි දෙක තුනක් දිග පිහියක් තියෙනවා.ඒ පිහිය කෙලවර කෙක්කක් වගේ මුවහත් වකයක් තියෙනවා. අන්නාසි ගෙඩියෙ නටුවට ඒ ⁣පිහිය දාල ඇද්දම ගෙඩිය කැපිලා එනවා. ඉදුනු අන්නාසි ගෙඩි හත අටකුයිත් එක්ක තව අමු අන්නාසි ගෙඩි දෙකකුත් කපාගෙන ගෙදර ආවා. අන්නාසි වැඩියෙන් තියෙනව නම් ඉතින් මම අනිවාර්යයෙන් ජෑම් හදනවාමයි. සීනි තරමක් කරවෙන්න ඇරල ජෑම් එක තරමක් රන්වන් දුඹුරු පැහැයක් එනවිදියට තමයි මම ජෑම් හදන්න කැමති. සිරිවර්ධන මාමා මීගමුවෙන් ගෙනත් දීපු කිවි පළතුරු ගෙඩි ටිකකුත් ගෙදර තිබුණ නිසා ඒකත් කෑලි කපල අරගෙන ලිපේ බාගෙට පැහි පැහි තිබුණ අන්නාසි ජෑම් ටිකකුත් මිශ්‍ර කරගෙන තවත් ජෑම් එකක් හැදුවා. කිවි සහ අන්නාසි කියන්නෙ හොඳට පෑහෙන රස දෙකක්. මේ මොන මොන විදියට හැදුවත් අන්නාසි පෙති කපල ලුණු ගම්මිරිස් එක්ක මිරිස් කුඩු ටිකක් දාල අන්නාසි කෑල්ලක් නොකෑවොත් අන්නාසි කැවෙ නෑ වගේ හිතෙනවා. හැබැයි අපේ මල්ලිට නම් අන්නාසි කෑව කියල දැනෙන්නෙ ගෙඩිය මැද්දෙ තියෙන අන්නාසි වහල්ලත් කෑවම තමයි. අපි පොඩි කාලෙ අත්තම්මා වෑංජනේකට අන්නාසි ගෙඩියක් කපල ඉවර වෙනකල් බලාගෙන ඉනනනවා. එහෙම ඉඳල අන්නාසි වහල්ල ලැබෙනව කියන්නෙ මහා ජයග්‍රහණයක්. මල්ලි නම් කරන්නෙම මෙසේ ලගටම වෙලා ඉඳල ඒකත් අරන් දුවන එක. මං ජෑම් හදන අතරෙදි මල්ලි අමුතුම බීම එකකුත් උස්ගෙන ආවා. එයාගෙ අමුතු වැඩ ගැන අමුතුවෙන් කියන්න ඕන නැහැනෙ. ඒක උකු පොල් කිරිත් එක්ක මිශ්‍ර කරගෙන බොද්දි අන්නාසි වලට අමතරව තව අඹ රහකුත් දැනුනා. අන්නාසි වල තියෙන ඇගට තරමක් උෂ්ණ ගතිය පොල් කිරිවල තියෙන උෂ්ණ සමන ගුණය නිසා යටපත් වෙනවා. ගුණය වගේම ඒ බීම එක නම් ජෑම් හැඳිගාල මහන්සිත් වෙලා හිටපු මට දිව්‍ය පානයක් වගෙ තමයි දැනුනෙ. දවස පුරාම විඩෙන් විඩේ වහින නිසා එලි පහලියකට බැහැල එක දිගට වැඩක් කරන්නත් බැරි එකේ හවස් වරුවෙ මම තේ වෙලාවට හරියන්න අතුරුපසක් හදන්න හිතුවා. අන්නාසි කැට කපල ගිතෙල් වලින්ම තම්බගෙන රුලං, ලොකු රටකජු මිශ්‍ර කරල හදාගත්ත මිශ්‍රණය වියළි මිදි, බ්ලැක් කරන්ට් හත අටක් අතුරගත්ත පොඩි බාජනේකට පුරවල උඩුයටිකුරු කරල ගත්තම රසට වගේම ඒකෙ පෙනුමටත් ආස හිතෙනවා. ගිතෙල් මුහුවුන නිසා ඉන්දියානු රසකැවිලි රසයකුත් මතුවෙනවා. ඒ සේරටම වඩා අත්තම්මයි මල්ලියි රස කර කර කනව දැක්කම හිතත් සතුටින් පිරිල යනවා. ආදරයෙන් නදී 💜️💜️🌺

Each pineapple plant produces only one fruit per year. It can take up to two years for the pineapple to ripen, and it’s important to wait, because once it’s picked, it can’t ripen any further. The unripe pineapple not only tastes terrible, but is also poisonous. Love from Korea🇰🇷💕

Here in America, supermarket pineapples take 2 weeks to ripen , if you're in luck it might be sweet. As I remember it as a child , we harvested pineapples at the peak of its ripeness, golden like your brothers', with sweet aroma and sweet taste.

We too, in Jamaica of course. It’s tropical like Sri Lanka. I love my pineapple just like those ripened one. We even make a juice from boiling the peel and adding ginger.
