Man, I wish you had talked to me during my childhood. My lack of emotional resilience in the face of bullies wasted years of my childhood. At that time, I didn't know what to do... I used to get panic attacks in public.

you are the best bully teacher ever. you ca me to the high school and we came that day was the best because of two things that you taught me a lot on bullying and the second one is when we got to go crazy when the tornado drill happened brook gibbs u are awesome. I have really bad asthma too. PS you got a good Batman voice I think you could be Batman. I get bullyed by my weight and one person does that and continues on with my best friends after best friend and then I don't have any friends then well I do have friends but not a lot you really taught me a lot thank you for that. You are so amazing I don't know how to just explain.

So often there is a physical threat that is a component to real bullying that reinforces the bullies verbal attack. Bullies violate your personal boundaries both physically and emotionally. It take a certain degree of emotional and intellectual strength to not let your feeling get hurt when you are victim of bullying.... however it is this very lack of strength that bullies look for when picking a target. The duck example is really apropos because no amount of buoyancy oil will get that baby duck to the surface unless you remove your hand. Targets of bullying often feel that sense of helpless. Some even commit suicide while all the while pretending to the bully (and friends and family as well) that it doens't bother them. No doubt your technique is a great starting tool to deal with bullies, the problem has a great deal more depth to it, in my humble opinion. Name calling (you're an idiot) in and of itself is not bullying, name calling is just a technique bullies use, and its usually just the tip of the iceberg.

... They SHOULD be punished... I like the conditional tense and the small print behind that expression. Yes, aggressive people should be punished and yes, help should be just a call away... but, reality is that we're often left to fend for ourselves, and to succeed under those conditions we need resilience and a good dose of inner conviction (and perhaps a measure of humor). That's something one can only get from parents, siblings and friends... the affirmation that we are worth while as a person and that, despite the fact life is often unfair, we can always get on top of our problems. It's not easy, but it can be done

There is only one golden rule and that is when you flatten the bully, the bullying stops! I ignored them for years and the bullying continued. It won't work but it did help me survive because I had confidence in myself. So all the garbage that was said I ignored and that helped me but it did not stop the bullying.
