Geez....the fact that this piece of beautiful music was composed on the limited hardware of the Gameboy Advance is impressive... But what really blows my mind is the fact that this single song contains three different time signatures (6/8, 5/4 and 4/4)!!! You wouldn't even notice unless you paid close attention! Motoi Sakuraba is a GENIUS!!!

I had no idea about the time signatures I don't read music. but he was onto something when he composed these musics. they are pretty amazing for what they were heard on. probably one of the best things to come from the gba.

The funny thing is that the audio engine, that was used by Golden Sun used exacly what the GBA was natively capable of (8bit sample playback output, 32768Hz), with interpolation (i think it was linear). Golden Sun:Lost Age broke the record, with double the playback frequency (64kHz), which was easily to notice. That Sakuraba... He broke the GBA's limits like an boss. Thats why i like him, he's an boss like most game composers.

Sorry for the late reply. I checked again, and Golden Sun actually uses 24kHZ, not 32kHZ. Golden Sun Lost Age uses 32kHZ. Excuse me for spreading misinformation. Ahhhh, Saturos... the kind of boss where the game put the enemy at a disadvantage and it still was punishing if you weren’t prepared enough. Games these days are too nice.

@@MrUltrashark I'd say probably the best modern example is Octopath Traveler. Even the easiest bosses in this game can take 10-20 minutes to defeat. As for unlicensed works, every Super Robot Wars game can be unrelenting at times, especially when a boss has a map-based attack. Really requires you to plan ahead for their turns. As far as other examples go, most are indie titles that pay homage of classic RPGs and go out of their way to recapture that type of challenge. Even Dragon Quest, while not as challenging as it used to be, still requires quite a lot of grinding when compared to most of today's titles.

The fact that all of you people saying that Ivan and mia kept getting knocked out is literally making me question my existence no offense. In every playthrough I have ever done, Mia and especially Ivan never got knocked out whatsoever. Yep. Not even the Deadbeard fight. Although, due to Menardi's hax she always targets Ivan with her 1 shot attack called Death size. But that only happens at rare times, but still don't know why specifically Ivan :P

It's not a linear RPG , meaning you could explore chunks of the game you were never intended to at the time . When I battled Saturos on my first playthrough I was severely underleveled because I went there before I fought the tree boss . Also , at the time I equipped each character with their own djinn element and only learned later that combining elements and wisely using summons can make or break your battles. If you use them right , any character can be a healer or a tank ... That's something I really *really* love about this game and gave me an entirely new appreciation for it . So ... Yeah . With how flexible the battle system and the world map is , don't be surprised to see people complain or narrate their experience . Instead , I would be happy to hear you share what made your Ivan so powerful . I know for sure you're telling the truth ... Because I'm playing the game now and both Ivan and Mia can be as resilient as Garret and Isaac because I equipped them with the right djinn element combination and cautiously used their summons

Hahahahaha poor Mia, but yeah, she does take more damage from Saturos, and Ivan is just squishi overall. Still, I do protect them well, more so Mia since she is the healer of the party. But yeah a couple of buffs to elemental resistance can make that easier :D

He always gives me every item but the one I want. It's like the game is psychic or something. If you've played Monster Hunter you're familiar with the urban myth of the desire sensor. It's things like this that almost tempt me to believe such a thing could exist. Seriously, on a recent playthrough I RNG abused for like 8 orihalcons, since I wanted a Xylion armor for my Garet ronin build. I saved directly in front of Sunshine and repeatedly went through all 8 and reset after they were all gone. 50+ tries later, not a single Xylion armor. I ended up with like 3 Excaliburs before I finally got one. Then I tried the same thing with Mythril clothes. More than 100 mythril silver later, nada. Then much later on I brought him more mythril just for shop completion, and he literally gives me 5 clothes in a row. I wanted to throw my DSi across the room in frustration.

This is my reminder to get back to playing Golden Sun/TLA Reloaded, a pair of excellent romhacks that totally rebalance the games to where they actually feel fresh--and don't have the weird RNG issues the originals do. There’s always next game! King K. Rool hadn’t been relevant in 18 years by the time he made it in, and he got two out of his four final boss themes remixed, including one that already HAD a remix since Brawl. If K. Rool (and Ridley and even Banjo) could make it, then Isaac can definitely make it in. All we have to do is wait for the next installment, which shouldn’t be more than a few years away at the time of writing this.

Tengo 16 años Estoy en mi primera partida en Golden Sun y es el primer RPG de estilo clasico que e jugado en mi vida , *Acabo de vencerlo por primera vez* ...QUE TEMAZO juro que de una me vine a oírlo aquí Y QUE COMBATAZO me costo un poco (es más casi me derrota) y tuve que ir con cabeza y con calma , lo enfrente con todos mis personajes estaban a NV 12 por lo cuál pienso que estoy un poco justo de nivel en estos momentos ya que incluso aunque el equipo que llevó no es malo acabo el que creo que su ataque mas poderoso (Erupción) con Iván de un golpe incluso cuando lo tenía a toda al vida , cada vez que lo usaba mi corazón se aceleraba por la tensión y este temazo me dejaba bien claro que esto no era para nada como los combates que había tenido , un verdadero desafío al final el muy cabrón me dejó echo miércoles el equipo tanto en PV como en PP y casi sin objetos curativos pero lo venci a la primera!! Este juego me tiene enganchado , llevaba mucho tiempo sin disfrutar tanto así se un videojuego tengo el pecho ardiendo de la tensión que acabo de pasar...fue mágico lo juro me ENCANTO

I forgot how much I hated this boss battle until yesterday. He's literally the 2nd or 3rd boss in the game, depending if you do the stuff with the trees first, which I recommend you do because you get Venus and Jupiter Djinn from there. My strategy is to give both Venus Djinn to Mia so she gets Cure well, have Garet and Ivan focus on dealing damage, and have Issac attack when he's not using Ply. Recommend level is 10 or higher. Saturos will not mess around he's still one of the hardest early boss fights I've ever faced. I mean, even playing it on the switch, he almost one shot Ivan on the very first turn, Saturos is brutal. Also, one more piece of advice don't save at the top of the lighthouse save before you get to the top, so if you feel under leveled or need more stuff, you can level up and get healing items... not that they will help, because you'll need to rely on cure well, and if you don't have cure well, then level up until you get it.

Man. It's really too bad. I found Golden Sun on the Wii U shop. Managed to get it before they closed down the Wii U shop for good. No regrets. Even got Lost Age with it.

I just recently got back to this fight after returning to this game, hopefully I'll actually beat the game this time but... This guy. Freaking ONE-SHOTTED. MIA FROM 100% HEALTH! ON HIS *FIRST TURN!!!* Made the battle EXTREMELY interesting. Ivan having the Healing Ring was definitely the right move, I'll tell ya that.

What a badass, honestly, He held off FOUR Adepts while in front of a Lighthouse that was severely weakening him! I loved how this game portrayed the antagonists as actual credible threats while later flipping everything you thought you knew on its head!

Pretty epic battle music that's for sure. Yeah, i think the deveopers waited too long to release Dark Dawn. Esp where it's for DS rather than GBA like the previous two. By then most game players were already well into ds and never looked back. it's a possibility anyways.

+Wurmo Also, GS3 was a totally shitload. Poor argument (and even poorest storyline), not-as-good music, uncharismatic characters (and too many of them), "invented" map, and plenty of logical fails... Only good thing i saw there where some puzzles. I would not buy GS4, yet i loved GS 1&2, and bough the 3 of them. I also know many friends who thinks more or less like I do, and many fans said that to Camelot, so they might just think it's not wroth even trying GS4.

The great tragedy with Golden Sun is that Saturos and Menardi acted like villains with a "evil plan" and all that, but in the second game you find out they were trying to save the world... Damn i felt bad about that :/ I mean, you more or less murdered would-be heroes...

Urban Berndtsson True, but I think they mostly wanted to just save their village, saving the world happened to be a positive side effect. Don't forget they kidnapped Felix, his parents and Isaac's dad, and held them hostage. Kidnapped Jenna and Kraden, left Garret and Isaac to die in sol sanctum. Tried to kill Isaac and Garret again. Knocked over some people that were turned into trees at bilbin barricade (because they are such dicks!). Kidnapped Sheba. Left a trail of death and destruction between Suhalla, Suhalla gate, Venus lighthouse (guards died), through Lalivero. Tried to kill Isaac and the gang (again). Only to fight to the death, all without trying to explain why they were doing what they were doing. Though they did try to reason with the Vale elders about their plight, but we all know how stubborn old people can be.

@@estebanoyonondo3868 yo literal acabo de derrotarlo , esta es la primera vez que juego Golden Sun y no wey...COMBATAZO , para empezar mi equipo es de nivel 12 y tiene equipamiento...bueno , al principio fui con todo a Issac le dije que usara a su Djinn para atacar , Ivan uso psinergia de plasma , Nia psinergia de Hielo y Garet psinergia volcán , le hizo mucho daño con eso y luego el usa bola de fuego y le quita un tercio de vida a todo el equipo , después yo Le dije a Issac y a nia que se curen a Garet que Invoque su Djinn para aumentar el ataque del equipo y a Iván que use psinergia plasma otra vez , de hay en adelante estuve atento a que mi equipo no perdiera más de ma mitad de su vida , en caso de estar a mas de la mitad atacaba con ese personaje y si no , lo curaba , y así fui varios turnos hasta que...uso Erupción y hay mamá a ivan se lo bajo de 1 sólo ataque y eso que estaba a toda la vida , a Nia la dejó bien jodida y a garet le hizo daño pero no taaanto , con ese ataque prácticamente acababa conmigo menos mal que no lo usaba tan seguido porque si no GG , después de eso seguí luchando sin Iván ya que no tenía como revivirlo y jugando con cabeza cada movimiento que hacía acabe ganando pero a sido de lejos el enemigo más fuerte que e tenido en el juego , para colmo Alex dice después que le gane porque sus ataques estaban debilitados😂

@@crist-roayt yo también le gané a saturos ( primero aumentar el ataque con gran impacto luego la defensa con resistir, después ATACAR con todo, ataques normales, mágicos, ataques especiales de los artefactos y por último invocaciones: NEREIDA y más y fin).

Seriously tho, and I know Im askin the right people here, is there any other (J)RPG for handheld as good as Golden Sun 1&2? Cause as much as I love replaying them I feel I might be missing out
