It is important that we utilize encouraging words, touch and positive emotion when training, working and living with him ... all in the moment of time that you are trying to praise him. We want our dog to want to be with us regardless of what else is going on. This positivity in training is important. We still consequence, but only in the proper context immediately followed by light praise.
