I go level by level and compare 007 GoldenEye the N64 game to scenes from the film. Also Pierce Brosnan is very handsome.

The helicopter in the movie is a preproduction Eurocopter Tiger, as used by the Australian Army’s 1st Aviation Regiment. It isn’t in the game because for some reason it wasn’t licensed?

@nicholsliwilson
@nicholsliwilson 5 жыл бұрын
Magsec5 that’s right. The Tiger is Airbus’ intellectual property and the developers would have had to get their permission to use it in game, which usually involves a licensing fee if you intend to profit from it.

If you read the pre-mission text, it explains that certain missions (like Bunker 1 and Silo) take place *before* the movie's plot. In Silo, you're actually photographing the GoldenEye satellite *before* it is launched into orbit.

If you ever check out Goldeneye's deleted scenes (film) you do see Bond before jumping the damn, entering a guard house which resembles one of the guard houses in the game, he makes his way through two guards to press the button that opens the gate. The makers remove this scene feeling that the scene where hes running while the gate opens looked and felt better for its pace.

A video on the remake could be interesting, just because it's such a weird amalgamation of everything. There are bits from the movie that weren't really in the N64 game (the helicopter ejection comes to mind), bits that were famous in the game but not really in the movie (like the whole dam level), and things that were different from both because they were updated to be more in line with 2010s Daniel Craig era Bond.

I have always wondered what the environments in the movie looked like on the actual movie set. I realise of course that they were probably just recorded in a studio, but there must have been SOMETHING that we never see in the movie that actually existed there, and that was originally intended to appear in the movie. Also, some places might have even been actual disused factories or something, since the production team DID obviously get permission to record a bunch of takes on the actual Contra Dam and Arecibo Observatory, and those places weren't even disused during those recordings.

The KF7 Soviet is based on the Norinco 56-1 (which is based on the AKS-47) seen in the facility and runway (and cradle) scenes in the movie. The weapon used on the train that you describe as the KF7 Soviet is an AKS-74u, also used extensively in the movie, but a different weapon than the AKS-47. It was a compact version of the AK-74 and AKS-74 which were chambered in 5.45mm x 39 instead of 7.62mm x 39 as in the AK-47. Just a sidenote.

The mainframes that control the water pumps (so as to hide the antenna dish underwater) are stored in the underground caverns. The importance of Bond going there and destroying said mainframes is to prevent Janus from ever hiding the exposed antenna dish again (and to convince Jack Wade about the antenna's existence, as well as ask him for further backup). If you remember Wade saying that the antenna dish never existed, it makes sense in context.

It should be worth noting. That while Goldeneye the Game added in missions as a reason to explore setpieces, since the Player is always playing as Bond, the Movie has the bonus of being able to give the focus to Xenia, Ourumov, Boris, Trevelyan and Natalya, allowing for various POVs to be used. Perhaps it would've been ambitious to have a few missions where you play as different characters, but I think the decision to stick with Bond the entire game, forced them to swap some things around to make it work.

A very goofy change in Control is that you fail the mission if you shoot Boris because Natalya abandons you, even though he's responsible for the deaths of all her co-workers at the Goldeneye facility and has tried killing her multiple times in the film by now. Hell she tries killing him in the film at this point. Makes absolutely no sense in the game for her to be angered if you shoot him.

5:45 The Eurocom Tiger is a real helicopter with a trademarked name, they changed it in the game for the same reason they changed the names of all the guns. They didn't have the rights to it.

I think the race against Xenia lends itself perfectly to a game level. As does the Yacht Manticore where Bond finds the body of the dead admiral after knocking out a sailor-like dude. You could have mentioned that one. There should have been a St. Petersburg level where Bond meets Jack Wade, does the set up at Kirov´s funeral parlour, meets Valentin and tries to catch up with Natalya in Our Lady Of Smolensk. I sneaky stealth approach for once. Also the fight with Xenia in the sauna could have been a level. Think about it - a level in which Bond has to escape his hotel alive and has him come through the sauna somewhere along the line. Obviously Xenia cannot die here, because she has to endure until the Jungle level but anyway.

The problem is that the N64 could only handle so much. They'd have to implement completely new mechanics to make the race level fun in any way (assuming they could even make a map big enough to race on.) The Yacht Manticore and St. Petersburg levels would likely just be seen by players as boring or annoying, since there isn't really any stealth mechanics in the game. A level where you fight Xenia in the sauna doesn't make sense if you use guns and would just be silly if you slapped each other.

@@IsmailofeRegime Depends entirely on how you set it up. Agree the race thing would be hard to make at the time. Yacht Manticore would be easy to do - also as a shooting level. The sauna thing would be easy if the entire hotel was the level and the sauna only was a part of the level near the very end. Better than Aztec and Egyptian

I love the video, but you missed the Dam deleted scene, it's pretty much shows how he gets the gate open and there's guards in a little building with a satellite on top of it just like in the game, except they are watching television and Bond sneaks past them.

A month or so ago I actually watched GoldenEye for the first time for a while. I popped a Pan & Scan VHS (Remember those?) in to me VCR and pressed the Play button to see a moving image on me CRT TV. Was cool experience.

I'd be curious what a fan remake / mod that remixes the levels to be more faithful to the film might look. I'd imagine that would involve a lot of altering of levels or removing several entirely (much like the 2010 game) and remaking cinematic cutscenes to be more similar to the movie (or just grabbing entire scenes as FMVs lol) but as an experiment (and not a replacement for the original game) it could be neat.

I really love the movie and the game as well, and rewatching the movie after many hours of playing the game a whole lot, I was pleasantly surprised to note that they were imitating the movie sets and locations at certain points. I actually really enjoy the way the game tells the story though. For the first level you just go to various action setpieces and do cool spy stuff; then in the facility things start out cool but become gradually more unsettling leading up to a scripted event where Alec dies, scripted both in the game sense and in the sense that Alec was secretly a traitor faking his death, which you discover much later; then comes the runway where stealth is nearly impossible, which is fitting since the mission is falling apart at this point. Then comes the first two Severnaya levels, which have a lonely and small feeling to them, as if Bond is lost somewhere; the next two levels aren't strictly connected but they both return to the "cool spy stuff" gameplay of the Dam, and they both have clear connections to the Goldeneye weapon and the Cossacks, giving a sense that Bond is wiser now and he's finding his groove again. Then comes the second two Severnaya levels, I don't quite get their significance but I find it interesting how similar they are to the first two, in a game that allows you to freely replay levels you've beaten; I also find the red sky a little strange. The next five missions return to the sickening feeling of the facility, but in reverse this time, where Alec comes "back from the dead" and reveals the truth to Bond before fleeing (under an oppressive cloudy sky, maybe this is kind of tinfoil-hat-like but I think it's supposed to remind us of the poison gas in the facility) while being secretly helped by Valentin (similar to Doak in the facility), and in the final four levels Bond finally lives up to his legendary reputation and saves the world (the caverns level even looks like a classic Bond villain lair).

I beg to differ. The Wiimake of Goldeneye. When there was the Goldeneye remake for Wii, there were a whole lot of people playing it. All the proof you need is on my KZbin channel if you look among my playlists of Goldeneye Wii. There were lots of people playing the game online and I had a blast playing it.
