From what I've seen in these experiments, FM 18 seems A LOT more random than previous versions. I have no insights on the technical side, but I would guess they harshly reduced the effect of the reputation in the game, especially for AI simulations. Having guys like Isco, Koke and even Fabinho winning World Cup best player could support this. In previous editions, you would probably have Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo winning it at least 20 times each. I would also guess they made some changes to favor players between 25-29 or something like that, as previous games had a heavy bias towards 30+ players (again, directly related to the reputation-supported algorithms). It does make more sense as a peak age window. If those assumptions are right, Belgium does fit perfectly the bill. Don't think it is a particularly realistic model, though. Thank you for the effort, great experiment!

Nice video. Some teams I think will use this data to oust their competition. I think that you should add a scoresheet as extra data. 10 points for first place, 5 points for the runner-up, 3 points for third place winner and 1 point for the #4. Keep doing the simulations. I am interested to see if there will be more surprises. Seeing Belgium winning this experiment will give you lot of Belgium fans for sure :).

To put things into perspective, when I recently played FM '17, the 2018 final was won by Austria beating Australia in the final, which is weird even by FM standards. Also, in the real world, no South American team has ever won a WC on European soil.

I like the statistics behind this assuming Panama have a 1 in 5000 chance of winning. The chance of them winning all 100 is 5000 ^ 100. Which equals around 10^400. Or 1 with 400 zeros it.

I say Germany. Based on all of World Cup history, Germany is the nation with the most final appearances, most semi-final appearances, most 2nd place finishes, most 3rd place finishes, all time leading goalscorer, player with the most appearances at a World Cup etc. Also when we look at recent history, 2014 - Germany won it, 2010 - Germany went out against Spain in the semis, Spain won it at the end, 2006 - Germany went out against Italy in the semis, Italy won it at the end, 2002 - Germany lost against Brazil at the final. So basically it was either Germany or the nation that was good enough to beat Germany. I don't see many nations good enough to beat Germany at a World Cup, Spain and Brazil are the only i see at the moment.
