Parbat means a mountain or a peak. In the old days, back when there was only one country(Indo-Pak), the rishis or the saints would go there to attain spirituality. Since they would be only in dhoti (cloth which covers only your legs) and some of them would even be completely naked. Hence the name Nanga Parbat.

‘Parbat’ or ‘Parvat’ is the hindi word for ‘mountain’ or ‘mountaintop’ so nanga parbat translates to naked mountain. Probably due to the lack of vegetation on it.
